X-Men - Part 7

I think Generation X has the new faces. Gold, Blue, and Astonishing will provide opportunities to add new characters if they want after the current ones are established.

But Generation X acts like Young/New X-Men of the 2000s.

I just think at this point, they are unwilling to create a new staple to the team that would end up as popular as the bigger names. like how Jubilee/Gambit/Bishop were the new faces in the 90s and later became X-staples. I miss that in the 2000s/2010s, there were few break out stars. Though Fantomex is technically a 2010s recruit so I guess that should make up for it and they could make him more relevant in the next few years to come.

So
Blue: 60s roster
Gold: a mix of 70s to 80s recruits
Astonish: a mix from 60s up to the 2010s.

Angel- 60s
Logan- 70s
Rogue/Psylocke - 80s
Bishop/Gambit - 90s
Mystique - 00s
Fantomex - 10s

Pretty cool.

Great development as it felt organic and made sense. I hope they stick with her as a [BLACKOUT]villian[/BLACKOUT]

The ending though was nonsensical as this is something that could have happened in issue #1 had they just talked to each other

I think that made the whole event silly though it had its moments. But over all. Pretty poor for a cross over. Plus this cross over is so focused on Medusa and Emma while the others just served as chess players.

Ressurxion is heavily influenced by past nostalgia, with each book representing a different era

X-men Blue - 60s
X-men Gold - 70/80s
Astonishing X-men - 90s
Generation X - 00s
Weapon X - 10s

this series made me hate Medusa more with the retcon they did with her to absolve her of any fault

I don't seehow Astonishingis 90s inspired when Fantomex was introduced in the 2000s and only joined the team in the 2010s, while Mystique joined the X-Men during the mid 2000s. If Forge and Jubilee took their place, I would agree.

Those are just two charcters. Outside of them, that roster is primarily made up of characters that helped defined the early 90s as its plucked from the Blue/Gold team of that era

I am excited to see Bishop back. He was underused in Days of Future Past and I havent really seen him since the Hope Saga trilogy and I didnt read those X-Force books.

If I have to change something about these books. I would remove Blue then replace it with a team consisting of Polaris, Havok, Sage, Banshee, Sunfire, M and Forge or Dazller Then name it as Uncanny X-Men. And i know that roster is like b list X-Men but I don't care. Weird that they are ditching Uncanny X-Men as the title. I dont think I can recall a time since they didnt use it for a period of time. Then I would replace Mystique with Marrow.

X-men Gold should have been called Uncanny, Astonishing should have been X-men Blue and X-men Blue should have been X-men Gold

Question: are oya and Kid Apocalypse technically X-Men members now since they are/were part of All New X-Men roster?

they call themselves X-men and have costumes but that book is weird as its a bunch of teens going on a roadtrip running away from the superheroics. Danger tends to find them and I don't Storm acknowledges them as a separate branch of the X-men as she does with Magneto's team. Technically yes, but execution? Not so much. Its almost like Cyclop's revolution team whom also were not recognized as such. Well that team was flat out rejected so I guess it is different

Thing is its kinda like with the other young students like Anole, Glob, who are wearing costumes with the X thingy on but they aren't X-Men yet the way Psylocke, Magneto are. So maybe when they are finally teammates with the adult X-Men and aren't seen as a trainee or a Jr. and the title says X-Men Red. Okay.

Its just confusing with the name All New X-Men.

She's pretty much filling the same role Cyclops did after his "heel" turn in AvX
I'm excited for this.

But in IvX, and this was my biggest issue, Emma's actions seemed to be part of a psychotic break after Cyclops died. There are a whole bunch of problems with this, but Emma seemed liked a full fledged villain rather than the revolutionary Cyclops was (he never did anything that made him a full villain out of his own agency).

The revolutionary stuff is coming in the aftermath as alluded to in teh article with her having a group of X-men try to ignite a mutant rebellion. I didnt view Scott as a villian but Marvel and the characters most certainly did. The fact that he was driven insane possessd by a cosmic entity was overlooked just as Emma's own psychotic breakdown will
. I was hoping for a team book starring Emma as leader. An All New X-Force would work but I wouldnt be surprised if she heads up Uncanny X-men vol 5.

the internet seems to mostly be loathing Emma's turn... and regression in development.

though, i assume most of that is directed at the fact her new costume is absolutely horrible.. and one of the ugliest and tackiest costumes ever....

no people hate it bc they feel it throws away over 20 years of character development to prop up the Inhumans, specifically Medusa, whom they did a 180 in order to absolve her of any faults in IvX #6. Emma was basically thrown under the bus as the event's sacrificial lamb. Hate for the costume is really secondary to that

Don't even get me started on Medusa in this crap crossover. She's almost the new Scarlet Witch in some ways (commits violence against mutants but still gets to be a hero).

Emma being a sacrificial lamb is the best way to put it. Emma's costume is visually hideous and the reason behind it is even worse.

Interesting who will be part of Emma's X-Men.
Havok and Magik are good guesses maybe?

I'd be down for punk Dazzler and I'd love for Hellion to finally get on an X-team!

Funny how in the final issue Medusa says no mutant life is worth keeping the clouds and doesnt hesitate to try and pull the trigger to destroy it, yet the cloud was killing mutants over the past year and she did nothing. She was ready to fight the X-men if they went near it and she shut down the notion of it being eliminated before. What was done with Emma was deflection. People arent focusing on Medusa's faults bc Emma's immediate actions were so much worse

I think Magik was all but confirmed today in some tweet about the oneshot being "magikal". Im all for those other mutants joining too but I REALLY hope Polaris is used if she doesnt wind up in Blue as a supporting character. A blast from NM past in the form of Empath would be good too

Magik was the best part of Bendis' run and I'm grateful to Gillen for establishing her prominence. Gillen would be the perfect writer for whatever series this might turn into. I didn't like how Lemire wrote Magik though, but I also didn't care for that series other than Colossus' redesign and the issue about Storm and the dying mutant girl. How anyone who read that issue could stomach IvX's ending with Medusa I just don't know.

The last time I remember reading Polaris was back in All-New X-Factor. Which wasn't the most interesting series but it at least gave her an interesting backstory/mutant origin story.
