X-Men - Part 7

Now that the political nonsense is finished in X-Men Gold, I can enjoy the book. I liked seeing Cecelia and a reference to the old XSE (I think it was) from Claremont's X-Treme X-Men run. I always liked that direction.

And while Generation X isn't really Generation X... I still enjoyed it. God it feels good to see Chamber again. I hope he becomes a core character in the book very soon.

XSE was after X-treme. It was the premise behind his Uncanny run. I personally disliked it and hope its not back. Would really prefer X-factor if they are going that route

The X.S.E. was formed toward the end of X-Treme X-Men... maybe even the final issue though I don't recall exactly. That's why I always associate it with X-Treme. It started there.

Storm and her team werent a mutant police force during the run of X-treme. That was set up in the very last issue of X-treme but the team made its actual debut in Uncanny X-men 444 where that premise would play out through deciMation when it was dissolved.

I'm really enjoying Jean Grey. Wouldn't mind if it turned into a team up book with her and Hope. Though Rachel calling Jean "baby momma" was weird.

The 2nd issue of Jean was great. I'd love to see more of the different hosts in the future. But it's so frustrating as a fan of Quentin because Hopeless' take on him is SO much better than Strain. Why couldn't Hopeless be on GenX?

Blue and Jean Grey are my favorites out of the bunch right now. Gold could be a little bit better but its worth getting for now. Weapon X is alright too but I'm not a big Greg Land fan. His art just bugs me. With Generation X, I'll give it the first arc. The only thing I'm not feeling is Jubilee as their teacher/leader as I'm not a fan of the all new and all different Jubilee. I would have preferred Chamber and Husk if it were possible.

What does that even mean?

Probably vampire and single parent Jubilee.

Probably vampire and single parent Jubilee.

The vampire thing is so downplayed now that its a nonfactor. A few years back they drastically changed her personality and how she acted with it but Jubilee is more herself now than she's been in ages. She's not a 13 year old mallrat anymore. I dont mind Shogo. He's helped her grow up and part of the reason she;s back to being herself as he's helped humanize her. The Jubes we see now seems like a natural extension of how the character would be as a young adult following the original Generation X in a way that she wasnt during her Wondra and later vampire phase. I dont think All New, All Different accurately describes her here

Wait Jubilee is still a vampire? I figured that would've lasted 6 months, at most.

Hopeless needs to turn the book into a Jean & Hope team up book.

Honestly, I'm not a fan. She can be a single vampire mom and it can be the natural progression of the character but I'm not a fan. She can be millions of peoples' favorite character and I'm alright with that but I'm not a fan of vampire Jubilee which is why I said all new and all different in this new age of Marvel. I liked the character initially until New Warriors. That ended my interest in the character and yes she has regain a bit of what she was but not enough for me to care for. I understand your point but that is just how I feel about the drastic change to characters I have been reading over 30+ years. Some change is good and some change is necessary but in this case I happen to be against the change that was made to Jubliee.

truth be told I'm not a fan of it ether. but ther are some nuts people that like it and their of the verity ( half of them anyway ) that still buy into her powers were never good. man there are still article's from screen rant and CBR saying that fire works don't harm people and she on the useless list . \

it's like they are totally repeating the same crap article from wizard and they won't notice fire works will harm them til it actually happen to them and they realize the worse then third degree burns came from fire works.

the did say I want cb her cured of for the lusting for blood part gone.

I don't mind her having the agility and strength of vampire . but I don't want her to be vampire for ever ether.

And from what I understand of the stone elsa blood stone has it'll allow her to both get rid of that and may add something to jubilee .

but I rather jublee be a mutant again. I 'm also ok with hybrid like what psylockes supposed or her sister inlaw megan to be or the british mutant hero spit fire that's was part of the invaders and is elsa blood stone mentor currently, that avoided her vampirism thank's to nanites before she was just mutant speedster that can conduct flames .

Jean Grey #2 was incredible. I loved seeing these characters interact and I really hope a few of them become reoccurring characters. This issue was as good as I hoped a Jean Grey solo would be. How fitting is it to see Hope for the first time forever in this book? And Hopeless writes the best Magik and Quenten that I've read in a long time.

I thought the first three issues of X-men Blue were terrific, but the fourth one took some momentum away. I just can't see the justification for bringing in another Wolverine rip-off. I love how Bunn writes Jean and Magneto so I'm sticking with this book no matter what, I just hope boring-wolverine takes a hike eventually.

I was excited for Generation X but I've forgotten everything I read in 2 issues. The art is also wonky and characters faces are drawn from weird angles. I really like how the school is organized and managed, though.

X-men Gold really isn't bad. They are really fast-paced, short, action stories. It's not doing anything incredible or groundbreaking though. The author's love for Kitty might backfire on the book though. She's one of my favourite characters, but too much of a good thing is bad for you.

Iceman #1 was solid! I'm thrilled this book exists, and Grace really captures Iceman's voice. I'm surprised this issue hasn't sparked outrage from certain voices here, but I thought it was really likeable and filled with self-aware bad jokes and personal dilemmas. Daken appearing soon has me super intrigued.

I figure I'll give me two cents on all the X-Books right now. I'll start by saying that I've been disenchanted with Marvel for quite some time now but refuse to give up on the X-Men titles. But nonetheless... I keep on reading. I was hoping this new batch of titles would win me over again. Have they? Eh. Sadly, no.

X-Men Gold - This comic's anti-right political slant over the first arc really got on my nerves, so it started in the gutter and really tainted this whole launch for me. Fortunately, It was only a quick arc and the book continued. I like the classic cast but hate when we don't see a team's formation. I feel like something's missing and that, despite the years behind these characters, there is no cohesion between them because there hasn't been a natural lead-in to the formation of this team. I also just really don't like Old Man Logan. I miss the real Logan... and Cyclops... and Jean... and Angel... and Beast. All that whining aside, the book is growing on me as I read it. I went from rolling my eyes every time I saw that it had come out to reading it first.

X-Men Blue - I just can't get into these characters. The writer's doing well with them as did Humphries (I think) in their previous volume. I just find that I don't care. But that's about it. I've not liked any of the changes made to the characters since their 1st appearance outside of Beast practicing magic. I kinda like Cyclops in Champions (though the constant anti-conservative slant there ruins the enjoyment I once had while reading it) but I really don't like him in this book. Everyone's rolls are just blah. I like the original X-Men too much to watch them change so much. If I cared about that I'd have read Ultimate X-Men.

Generation X - I don't know what to think about this book. The main thing is that that art is just SOOOOO bad. And then as someone who grew up loving Generation X... to this day one of my favorite books... this book just isn't it. Yeah, Jubilee is in it and Chamber shows up occassionally... but this is just another New X-Men student book without any of the interesting students. Hopefully it'll swing toward the ACTUAL Generation X cast at some point like how the New Mutants book that introduced the New X-Men students eventually led to a proper New Mutants book. But hey... at least Chamber is getting a little play. It sounds like M is coming up soon, and hopefully Husk and Banshee will show up before long. We'll see how it goes. Maybe it's just the title (which makes no sense with these students as they would be Millennials, not Generation X) but I do still look forward tot his book every time I see it's out.

Jean Grey - On one hand the writer's doing well with this book and character. On the other hand I STILL don't care about the O5 including Jean. I'd rather the real Jean return and star in her own book. So I tend to read the book, finish it, and forget what I just read. Thus far it's been forgettable.

Iceman - I'll start by say that I hate that Iceman is gay now. Not that I have anything against gay characters, but I can't stand when people change a vital aspect of long established characters in such inorganic ways. Such drastic changes nearly always make me lose interest in that character and I fear that that will happen with Bobby. Iceman, however, has long been one of my favorite characters, so I'm hoping that won't happen here. That said, I still manage to enjoy this title so perhaps with time I could get used to the new status quo for Bobby. I'll never LIKE the change, but perhaps some day I'll get used to it to the point where it will no longer irritate me when it comes up.

Weapon X - I like this better than I expected to but I'm still not overly impressed. I think Old Man Logan being the focus holds me back, and just like with Iceman... I didn't like the sudden character shift that Sabretooth (and Havok) went through during AXIS. There was no natural progression. Nothing of that nature. Just POW and now you're good with a heart of gold (basically, Sabretooth from the AoA/Exiles). Misc. robots also tend to bore me, and I'm not huge on Stryker (though GLMK and New X-Men: Childhood's End were good).

So... yeah, I guess I'm just not that impressed. But perhaps if Marvel's status quo of the week actually sticks long enough to start evolving into something natural instead of ending to be replaced with another sudden new status quo... I could get into it. It's definitely the better attempt in a while.

The cast of Astonishing may be more up your ally.

Yeah, I'm excited for that. Bishop alone gets me giddy :D
as long as they don't have him wearing grenades ever again or going after kids or student . then again I really don't want him near the school again. I don't know when any of the really bad or new bad upand coming writers will have him do that again . like what he did with Hope. I used to really like that character especially since he was one of few African American representatives of mutants be side's storm .

But for the male side it was cool to have cause it was needed. but every time someone from the new up and coming writers goes overly military. I know what will happen and they made him overly psychotic with that , as soon as they put grenades on him.

i'm sorry but give me the cop/ bounty hunter any day. that was decent guy . no military grenade wearing nut jobs.

And I hope they never bring who ever thought up that idea of killing off baby back then back. but yeah keep him way from the school in the mean time .

I agree. I started reading comics just after he first showed up, so I've always had a soft spot for him. I loved him until around Civil War. That was when he started declining, and his treatment in and post Messiah Complex just destroyed his character. Fortunately Humphreys (I think it was) undid all that using mind control or whatever, so on panel he's still innocent and I hope that sticks and they redeem his character.
