I think it came down to politics and timing to be perfectly honest...not that I liked Rourke too much either

sir. rourke is a total ****ing unstoppable badass.

Did you see Milk?

yup. and i thought penn was very good. for a sean penn. i just thought rourke was "better". god, i'm bitter. :csad:

and. i kept telling everyone that i wanted ledger to win that oscar, but honestly.... in my hearts of hearts, i was hoping that robert would win. those were some epic mantears.

well obviously he was stopped before the Oscar lmao
I didn't really have a favorite for Best Actor, so I didn't care either way

Did you see Milk?
i saw Milk and The Wrestler on the same day. back-to-back. Rourke should have won. why? because he was more moving on an individual level.

Milk made me shakey and cry like a baby, but that was the entire film. not just Penn's performance. having said that, a part of me knew he might win and is glad that he did. he was fantastic.
SEAN PENN!?! SEAN PENN!?! :cmad: :cmad:
dude, the real injustice?

that piece of populist fluff Slumdog winning EVERYTHING! it's like Crash, Shakespeare in Love, Chariots of Fire, and Titanic all over again. in a few weeks, months, and then years, this telecast will be looked back and upon and everyone will realize the wrong movie won. hell, even one of the actors won for the wrong role (Winslet). and the wrong year.

Ugh, don't remind me about Shakespeare in Love....and Winslet won for the wrong role, but the Academy is notorious for giving people their Oscars a few roles too late, so I'm glad she won

YOU SAID TITANIC!! that's a mother****ing curse word at my place. :cmad: you need to put a nickel to my swear jar.

and winslet deserves her damn oscar. just not from that reader ****...

i'm glad she won as well. i'm happy with all of the acting noms. i hate that the Academy drank the Slumdog kool-aid.

it's not about anything deeper. it's feel good, and decent enough. what's the overpowering sentiment? love conquers all cause the movie ends with a song-and-dance routine between the two main characters? ok. wanna try passing that tripe off in the slums of India? good luck. so, because a movie takes place in the poverty stricken country of India, and it has an inplausable, totally credibility destroying premise, but ends with a happy-go-lucky musical number it deserves to win over a meditation about time, life, love, and death (Benjamin Button), or the human rights crusades of one man (Milk)? yeah, i don't think so.

mark my words, years from now, this year will be looked down upon like the 2000 Academy Awards. this was the worst year for movies so far this decade.

that's what i was saying! she deserved an Oscar, but for Little Children or Heavenly Creatures or Finding Neverland. hell, even for the ass-raping-of-a-literary-masterpiece that is Revolutionary Road! The Reader is a hardcore makeup Oscar. i was hoping for a Melissa Leo or Anne Hathaway shocker. they deserved to win this year much more.

It's definitely one of those "oh, that movie got everything..whatever" situations. Even before the Oscars people were getting like that.
I must say, I liked some of the format changes they had though

anne hathaway was really ****ing good. i was SHOCKED! shocked, i say.
i wish they would have nominated rosemarie dewitt... :csad:
and it makes me feel all mushy inside that javier and penelope have matching statues now. :inlove:

i LOVED the 5 former winners present the newbie with the award thing. the Supporting Actress one was the best. every single one of those performers are some of my favorite actresses.

Anjelica Huston! Tilda Swinton! Eva Marie Saint! Goldie Hawn! Whoopi Golderg! Penelope Cruz!

yesss!
That must stay a part of the ceremony.
I think it was Anne who said, even though she lost...having 5 Winners present that little speech about each of the nominees would be a moment she'd remember forever. I loved.

benjamin button was a huge disappointment. it was like a definition of mediocre. sure, it looked pretty, but... eh.

brad pitt was just so... bland. it was like meet joe black: the return! :csad:

you fail. your reaction is up there with Roger Ebert's "what the **** was he smoking?" review of the film

but, seriously? "Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jnr!/Halle Berry!"
ok....? still weird to think about them having won Oscars.

Well come on...they couldn't have gotten 5 great people obviously lol

it's not that they didn't deserve it on the merit of those performances, but much like Gwyneth Paltrow, Mira Sorvino, F. Murray Abraham, and Adrian Brody -- who all won Oscars for their sole nomination -- they pissed away any good fortune with a string of terrible movies and performances in them.

I'm not saying they're not good....there's just better lol
and yeah, if you look at some of their movies since, ehh much
