They don't delete threads when they close them, they go to the recycle bin so you don't lose your post count. That's not to say that some large threads don't get deleted eventually down the road, I am waiting for the day when the very first OT thread actually gets deleted, I'll lose almost 20K posts when it does. I'll be cryin' then.....
