The Michael Caine rumor that Joker's make up becomes permanant because he keeps reapplying it and that Dent acutally gets scarred by acid in the court room.

Yeah, Caine said Joker never takes his makeup off and just applies layer after layer. There is nothing in the movie that suggested this. I suppose he was just thinking of his own theory.

I loved how everyone took Miranda's words to absolute heart, and everything she posted turned out to be entirely untrue.

No scars. Debunked with first picture.

That the Joker was actually permawhite, or was going to become permawhite.
I remember someone was saying something complex and silly like,
Joker wears flesh coloured makeup over the permawhite, and clown makeup over the flesh coloured makeup. Haha.
Also the rumour of the guy actually blowing up the ferry with the criminals on it...which was already mentioned here.
ANDDDD, that Sarah Jayne Dunn was going to play Harleen, but not necessarily "Harley Quinn". People were being clever about that for a while, and I believed it before I realised that this actress was definitely playing one of Maroni's mistresses.
I was happy to see that most of the rumours I had indulged in weren't actually true, it made the movie more of a pleasant surprise to me. lol

The rumor I wish most was true was the one about the showdown between the Joker and Scarecrow. I never believed the rumors about Joker's appearance -- either his scars or his "white-ness" -- becoming more severe as the movie went on and I always had a sneaking suspicion that AMH played a minor character. But for some reason, I really had hope for Joker being exposed to fear gas and it not having any effect on him. It would've fit in perfectly with the terrifying, absolute, Jaws-like portrayal of The Joker in the film.

I never liked this rumor and called it stupid and BS at the time but I remember many speculating that because there was no permawhite on Ledger's face he was a stand-in Joker for the real Joker, who would be a permawhite Anthony Michael Hall.

Most also thought Hall would end up being Riddler. Ra's Al Ghul being alive was another big one, with soon Two-Face joining that category for the next movie.

There was legit reasons for it though. I was one of those people who didn't think it would. Mostly because the blueprints of the Tumbler didn't seem to allow for it.
