Which would you IDEALLY prefer to have been your version of Dragonball?

i chose "other" because even though i think of most of the important characters as being Asian, i would've liked for it to be a diverse cast with Goku played by an Asian.

btw, i think this thread would've fit better in the DB world forum...but i still like it, Star :)

My ideal cast’s ethnic makeup would be all Asian with exception of the person who plays Bulma, whose light features in the anime suggest to me that she is supposed to be European. I suppose it would logically follow that her father would be white too, unless she’s mixed and just looks more like her mother. Emmy Rossum is probably the only person in this movie with whose casting I feel satisfied. On another note, Piccolo’s ethnicity isn’t that important because whoever would play him, the makeup is always going to be the primary determinant of the character’s look onscreen.

First choice. Diversity ftw.

what we have is good for me
i wouldnt change much of the cast, if any

I like diversity. I always saw it exactly the way we got it though.

i'm fine with the way they have it now.

omg please you shouldnt make this thread people only talking about they want a asian cast lol and that its racist to dont cast the main parts as asians but its racist of THEM who say that becouse they want asians and no others....
still dragonball race : saiyans is based on asians i think
SAIYAN : ASI(Y)ANS but in japan i think they call it saiya-jins

yeah, it is called saiyajins
so no, its not based on asians. ive always wondered why do the manga creators make their main characters look caucasian, or more caucasian than asian? dragonball, saint seiya, they dont seem asian to me, its strange

How is this racist? I really don't think that it is. People discuss this all the time....

it's not racist...i think he's saying that towards the people who think it should be all asians cast for the movie

big eyes in anime are often confused by westerners as being a caucasian feature but that's not true. anime started around the same time Disney did and anime borrowed the big eyed style of Disney because eyes are the most important part of the face and the bigger the eyes are, the easier it is to draw and convey expressions and emotions. it's not a matter of race, it's a matter of art.

as for DB, it's an anime that was originally a manga, created by a Japanese guy, originally made for an Asian audience, and based on an old Chinese tale...it's pretty obvious that most of the characters in DBZ (including Goku) were made for Asians to relate to.

japan copied disney...wow,how come japanese anime is copying americanime..lol! j/k

Which is the exact reason, as a kid, I construed the world of Dragonball Z to be Caucasian.

sorry then, im dutch not american or english..

I think that all of the characters are meant to be asian in the original story, but I would have been happy if Goku and Master Roshi were asian and the support characters were other ethnicities.

All of you are banned for turning this into IMDB.

i know, thats the reason why i wondered about the looks of the characters
but i didnt know about that disney thing.. interesting

well...not so much specifically Disney, but American cartoon characters back in the day all had large eyes. Looney Toons, Disney, etc....all the characters had large eyes, so Japan took that and incorporated that into their style.
