Sci-Fi Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon | Netflix

Netflix really f-ed this whole thing.

They released a PG-13 version that nobody was satisfied with thinking they’d have their own Star Wars franchise or something that kids would take to which obviously didn’t happen.

And now they’ve got this Director’s Cut that’s a little too late after the damage of how badly received those PG-13 cuts were destroying any hype even among Snyder fans.

If they had released this cut originally, at least they would’ve had a group that embraced it immediately. And probably better reviews I’m assuming.

Now it’s all just too late.

Oh, Zack. It sure is... gory-er and sexier. :funny:

But there was a ton of actual "story" footage shown in there too that i dont remember from the previous two parts. The hopeless optimist in me hopes that maybe all that extra footage will make us actually care about the characters this time.

I noticed some additional snippets here that were also in the novelization (I only read part 1). Based on what was in the book I think this will feel like a more coherent movie (think theatrical vs extended cut of BvS) but the characters remain thin.

I'm actually in the camp of people who didnt like BvS theatrical but felt the ultimate cut redeemed it. I really like the ultimate cut of BvS even if i still have fundamental issues with some of the creative choices, but i appreciated how much more coherent and fleshed out it was. For this, I'm not expecting a night and day change whatsoever but since we're essentially getting 2 hours of brand new story footage, I would hope some of that helps us to flesh out the characters a little. I just did not care about any of this crew in part 1 and part 2 because we learn nothing about them.

....

oh brother.

Yeah, I'm super conflicted over this because while it looks like a much different and possibly more coherent film than the PG-13 versions I still don't know if I want to sit through this again for 4 or 6 hours.

I just find this whole thing to be ridiculous and nothing short of a lame cashgrab on Netflix's end and that's likely the case since I've heard this is what they were planning from the start.

They should have just made this a Netflix series or let Snyder release this version from beginning because I honestly don't have much interest in this outside of seeing what those gore/sex scenes add.

Hopefully, I can just watch those bits on YouTube at some point though.

Do you really think it's going to get better reviews? It somehow looks even worse to me. Very unnecessary and extremely forced gore and nudity.

Well, higher than whatever was released. At least the extremely forced gore and nudity is something lol

The funniest end result would be if these new cuts were actually good. The PG-13 Rebel Moon's are probably the worst movies out of Snyder's entire filmography, just unredeemable slop.
I'm going to take you up on that bet. :o

I think the DC's look much better and I am someone who liked the TC's. It looks even more Warhammer 40k inspired which I love.

This all just seems pointless from Netflix but I will probably re-subscribe for the likes of these, Cobra Kai and Umbrella Academy.

I still hate Sucker Punch the most but that was more "This is embarrassing to watch" bad while Rebel Moon was more just plain old boring, especially the second one.

I loved Sucker Punch so much growing up that I even owned the (still brilliant) soundtrack on CD. I haven't dared to go back, I just know it's going to be rough as hell watching it as an adult.
I do remember being okay with the soundtrack at least.

What's crazy is visually Sucker Punch looks better than Rebel Moon because they shot it on film even though the vfx looks worse.

How come some people (non-Snyderverse crazies) are saying they're better though?

There are people who think "edgier" equals better. I haven't seen them and I'm not planning to, but this is very on par with Snyder's work in general. If you liked his movie you're going to like his director's cut more. If you hated his movie, the director's cut is even more insufferable.

I'm gonna wait for one of you brave souls to tell me if the DC's are worth watching or not even in a "so bad its good" kind of way.
