Sci-Fi Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon | Netflix

This seems like a level headed review of the DC’s. He says that the slow mo is actually drastically reduced in these cuts and that was a BIG peeve of mine in the OGs. He also says theres a lot more character development. May give these a whirl.

6 hours of content. Are you ready?

It's only reduced in the sense that with a longer runtime the slomo feels less pervasive.

I've watched both parts now. Character work is still weak but it no longer feels like a cliffnotes version of a movie. Once again, Snyder made a super long film that you can't really cut down and still have it make sense.

The gore is excessive. Every time a character gets shot they basically explode. There are so many head explosions that you get desensitized to it pretty fast. Even when the villagers win in the end, you're left thinking about how many got brutally slaughtered on screen.

I watched about 40 mins of it and I'm not in a rush to finish it, dont know if i ever will. The opening extended action scene was engaging at first but then Snyder leans into these really gross gratuitous tendencies that really put me off. I dont know why the guy felt the need to make this so excessively violent and cruel.

Mean and cruel is exactly how I'd describe this director's cut. Some of it is downright sadistic.

He’s trying to do his Heavy Metal homage. It’s not my appeal, but it’s so cartoony like 300 that it just doesn’t have any impact anyway.

Neither version is worth it but the PG-13 is even more pointless as like a PG-13 version of 300.

It feels far worse here than it does in 300 because a lot of the violence is inflicted on innocent helpless people.

If THAT'S the tone Snyder was going for, these PG-13 cuts are even more nonsensical. That last bit sounds like unnecessary misogyny, but I don't mind violence in film, so I might have to watch these for myself. What an odd project, through and through.

I think the far more baffling part was cutting out so much world building, plot threads and characters that could become more important later on. Would they have kept making two different cuts of every movie that followed (if the first two were actually successful)? Because then you'd be faced with either the PG-13 cuts making no sense or you're completely restricted by the PG-13 cuts in what extended material you can work into the story.

He did the same with BvS.

Well, with BvS the only removed scene that had an effect on JL was Lex seeing Steppenwolf (its removal also made Lex's final scene in BvS totally nonsensical). Feels like the stuff they cut out of the PG-13 cuts of Rebel Moon could have a much bigger effect on follow-ups though.

They also got rid of the scenes about Lex framing Superman for torching the African village and hiring an actress.

Sure, but none of those plot points carried over to JL.
I was going more he omitted important story elements. It didn't really make sense in the theatrical cut what exactly was going on with that whole subplot. It also gave Lois something to do other than have sex in a tub and tell Batman that their moms have the same name.

Same thing with Rebel Moon. The director's cut isn't necessarily "better" but the story and characters make more sense now.

They really are a gold mine of hilarity. How can they act like such children over some critics not liking his work and accusing them of lying about their jobs or hating Snyder on a personal level when they act the way they do about literally everything that isn't Snyder-related lmao

There's a bunch of tweets like this, apparently the cult has never heard of screeners or review embargoes.

I saw that, its insane how little these people understand about anything really.
And like, so what if some people dont like Snyders stuff? Grow up and accept it.

One of the reasons Snyder fans are seen in such a bad light, is because they are unable to deal with this kind of stuff like Grown Ups.
Everyone who doesnt like Snyders movies is too dumb to get them, has an agenda or so...its pathetic.

They're simply a reflection of the creator that they adore so much.

I think the fact that Snyder himself buys into his own hype is disturbing and feeds into this behavior.

I just started watching Part 1 last night. I struggled to stay awake during the opening scene(s) and actually DID fall asleep soon after the title card. Snyder desperately needs a professional screenwriter to write his ideas. I'm almost an hour in and they're JUST NOW getting to the scene where Kora rebels. Spending an hour of setup and characterization for characters that I care very little about is crazy! At this point, I'm watching it for what NOT to do when writing screenplays.

20 minutes before the title sequence is wild. By comparison, Star Trek (2009) has one of my favorite opening sequences because it only took 10 minutes to tell a mini-story and establish characters that I invested in despite knowing very little about them. Zack spent way too much time developing relationships that still fell flat, and it took way too long for Noble to get to the point. I started dozing off!
