CGI etc can be a huge help. But it also encourages laziness.

I watch these videos, and the amount of work that is being put in for the minutest of details, and the word that springs up in my mind is the farthest thing from "lazy". He isnt a filmmaker that uses CGI as a crutch, in fact he prefers to use practical effects whenever possible.

Not saying Snyder is. Just talking in general. It's like with the Star Wars prequels or something like Green Lantern. Instead of building real practical sets... they just stick the actors in a big green room. They get the SFX companies to do the work.

I'd never imagine a live action fight with The Trinity could be so forgettable, but it was. I loved all the MOS action sequences though.

Maybe we can all agree that after JL, Snyder's done enough DCEU films and should....take a break, to say the least. He must be exhausted.:o

Oh I agree with that.

The doomsday fight was the only one which I thought was just okay. It wasnt horrible, it had its moments, but it had too much noise.

The other fight scenes were amazing though, and all credit where its due. The smallville fight, the Batman warehouse sequence, Zod vs Superman, Batman vs Superman, Superman vs world engine...all beautifully choreographed and shot. If we go back to his pre-DCEU days, he had some amazing fight scenes there too, the whole of SP, Watchmen's prison break sequence, 300's first fight(which was genre re-defining)...etc etc. Huge credit to the guy Damon Caro, who is the fight choreographer as well.

Well, that turned out a treat didn't it?

Absolutely, that 'batmax' scene was IMO useless as it did nothing for the plot. Infact it hurt the plot because those valuable minutes could've been used to re-insert the CK reporter scenes, which fleshed out Lex's plan alot more and gave the audience a much needed explanation as to why superman was angry at batman and any director who has an inkling as to how to tell a story would've known this but we're talking about Michael Bay lite here so....

I guess it added to Bruce's paranoia. It showed the worst case scenario in his mind. But... it didn't necessarily have to be a big action set piece that took up 10 mins of screen time. It was like they had to insert an action scene to tick off a check list, which is the worst kind of film making. Tbf to Snyder it wouldn't surprise me if that was "suggested" by a studio exec though.

I actually liked the Look of the knightmare scene until the fight between Batman and the Superman soldiers broke out.

The Superman soldiers overwhelming Batman seemed like a Nolan fight scene the way the soldiers with guns kept running at Batman instead of shooting him.

I was looking at some of his action sequences on Youtube today and the big thing that I took away is that whilst he goes overboard with the slow mo (like unnecessary amounts of slow mo), his best looking shots are the ones that are filmed on practical sets with minimal colour filters in post production. Problem is there's just so many shots that have no intention of ever looking like that.

"This was kind of the opposite [of Breaking Bad] because we had the script and it wasn’t in the script. As we started then we worked on our script, I think we were in the middle of shooting and we started working on the outline for the next movie and where they go, and Zack said, ‘Oh my God let’s add this moment that is gonna pay off down the road, and we’ll find out more information.’” - Deborah Snyder.

There is thought behind his visuals. He storyboards all of them himself along with some other guys like Jay Oliva. Like Cetrone said in the interview, he is very hands on with the fight sequences and he and Damon Caro work it all out in excruciating detail. Great interview.

Disagree.

The first thing you learn about filmmaking is "show, don't tell". If there really is "no thought" behind his visuals, then what's going on? He's putting everything on the screen for a reason.

Compare Snyder to Baz Luhrmann. Snyder is a filmmaker. He's a visual storyteller. Luhrmann is a visualist. That's it. Luhrmann makes damn good looking movies but is actually guilty of the criticisms that are launched against Snyder, which, IMO, are unfounded.

It's called mise en scène.

Yeah the same reason Michael Bay puts flashy CGI heavy visuals on screen. He's creating empty eye candy.

Show, don't tell. Is that why Snyder's characters are always verbally stating what they think?

Snyder's visuals are not empty....another compelling argument. You should be in politics.

Snyder's visuals remind me of bench press exercises.

Do you have anything better to do? Your one-man crusade against Snyder is...laudable...but your energies could be properly put elsewhere, just a thought.

I hope one day Snyder embraces his nature and makes a Mortal Kombat movie. Holy crap, I'd watch that.

Is that you or me he's talking to, Boose? Because one of us should tell him to look at the poll or read through the comments of this thread and see the reality that it's a multiple man army that isn't impressed with Snyder's visuals, or Snyder in general.
