Guys, we all should've figured the mice were gonna be CGI. Really don't know why people are complaining.
As for writing, bear in mind, this is Zemekis first genre movie in over a decade since A Christmas Carol (which I liked, btw). I'm really glad he's going back to genre work after all that Oscar-baiting drama crap. I know people love Forest Gump and Cast Away, but outside of those, all the drama work he's done is REALLY not that interesting. The Walk could've been interesting if it a. did not involve the World Trade Center (pre-9/11 or not, it's clearly now a touchy subject with people) and b. the climax didn't give people freaking vertigo due to the IMAX shots (no one likes to feel like they're really gonna fall while watching a movie, tightrope or otherwise). The only reason he's "drained" there is because he's less creative doing straight drama without any fantastical elements! Here, Zemekis is a bit back on form and there does feel like there's some energy there! Plus, he's got Guillermo del Toro co-writing for him, and we KNOW GDT's a great writer!
