Zhang Yimou's The Great Wall (Matt Damon)

"It's fantasy, so it's ok that there's a White guy in it!"

The Great Wall is mostly backed by Legendary's Chinese branch, "Legendary East', which was proceeded by a big Chinese giant (Wanda)'s purchase of Legendary themselves (which makes Nerdist a Chinese company now!)

I would not be surprised if the Chinese shareholders WANTED a famous White American to headline the film, just for bragging rights. Since it's being produced, funded, and directed by the Chinese, they can go 'Hey Damon is in a Chinese film! Hell yeah.'

OK, but even if say the Chinese financiers came up with the idea and even approved of it, does that really make it OK?

Well... I'll always have BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. Now THERE'S the template for how to do this kind of thing.

(Goes off to meet Narci for some Popeye's and to roll a couple of the sticky icky.)

Never said it was okay - just their mindset. A bunch of race traitors, those Chinese finders are!

I thought this was gonna be a historical drama in the vein of something like The Last Samurai. That trailer really caught me off guard. I know Zhang Yimou is a stellar director, but this doesn't look very good.

if they think casting a white guy will make their film more widespread appeal then they will continue to do so american or chinese

Last I checked their weren't giant magical monsters in China either. Those Bastards are magicwashing Chinese history!:argh:

Seriously, people need to stop confusing fantasy with historical dramas and period pieces. And do we know for sure that Damon's character isn't meant to be a traveller or someone that was adopted by a Chinese character in the film? White people did travel believe it or not.

So did black people. And Middle Eastern people and ... etc.

Any excuse for Matt Damon being in the film is also an excuse for it to be anyone else.

"American"= White?

That's one of the most disturbing and frustrating thing about this stupid casting. The filmmakers seem to equate being American with being white. Someone needs to tell these ignorant idiots that Americans come in all different colors.

Quoted for the truth.

Just more proof that Hollywood is full of a bunch of liberal hypocrites who will sell out their "morals" and liberal beliefs for the all mighty dollar.

Looks silly as hell. I'll need to see more if that's good or bad.

They had me at giant lizards attacking the great wall. I'd go full silly and make an Avengers type movie with Alexander the Great, Pope Urban, Genghis Khan, Joan of Arc and Nobunaga.

Lawd.

If they ever make a film about the meteor destroying the dinosaurs, it would be a white american man as that meteor.

Let us just place a white american guy into every moment in human history.

Oh please God let this happen.

TERRANCE MALICK'S TREE OF LIFE 2

STARRING BRAD PITT AS THE METEOR

:lmao: This is why I keep losing to you every year for funniest poster.

Certainly looks different to what I was expecting.

I think it's one of those problem movies that Universal inherited when it signed up with Legendary.

Universal has nothing to do with the making of this movie. They are the distributors only. It's a film by Legendary which was purchased by a Chinese company and several other Chinese companies co-financed it.

It's not a Hollywood product its a Chinese product so Constance Wu and the other critics of this film don't know what they are talking about when they criticize Hollywood for whitewashing this film. But they can't blame the Chinese because that wouldn't be PC so they blame any available white guy.

As for Matt Damon what is he supposed to do? Turn down work and a pay check just to be PC. Should Will Smith have to turn down all the roles he played where the characters were originally white like Deadshot, I am Legend, Men In Black, and Wild Wild West than.

Jason Bourne in ancient China.
