🤛 Official UFC Thread - Part 8

Can anyone tell me how this whole Jones/Lesnar beef started?
The super fight does not interest me. Brock has been gone for years and lost his last few fights easily. Nothing on the line but fan bragging rights.

I figured Jones just called him out, because he knew fighting Brock is likely the biggest payday.

Yeah that seemed to be his reasoning in the UFC 214 post fight press conference. Someone asked if he would move up to fight Stipe, he mentioned it would not be a big fight to the world only MMA fans since Stipe is not a household name. He wants a big money fight like how McGregor and Mayweather are fighting.

I think the boxing fight is a waste of time. McGregor is a champion and should be defending his title. By doing this, he's avoiding fights against tough opponents like Tony Ferguson.

Don't get me wrong, McGregor is a very special talent. He's a very incredible star that only comes along once in a while, but he's still an MMA fighter. He's not a boxer. And yeah he's gonna make a ton of money on this fight, but if he takes this fight and whatever happens and walks away from MMA, I will be ticked.

The next UFC event in Madison Square Garden (UFC 217) seems like it has the potential to be another juicy card, 3 fights confirmed so far:-

Michael Bisping (c) vs George St Pierre
Cody Garbrandt (c) vs T.J. Dillashaw
Johny Hendricks vs Paulo Henrique Costa

UFC 215 is also a decent card as well IMO.

:funny:

So much for Jones appearing to finally look like he'd grown up & stopped making extraordinarily bad decisions.

Absolutely unbelievable waste of talent.

I had just woken up from a nap to see this and the Kyrie Irving news. I swear, I thought I was still sleeping. :lmao:

Looks like they are going with the tainted supplement defense again. I totally buy it. But honestly, unless USADA comes back with some sort of error, how can anyone believe him at this point?

USADA is killing sports. I'm sorry, but I'd rather keep talents like Bonds, Jones and Armstrong competing. Want an even playing field? Stop testing.

That's wrong on so many levels I just won't.

You're an idiot. And PED's in combat sports is more dangerous as you could kill the guy/girl.

Want an even playing field? Stop taking performance enhancing drugs.

Didn't USADA reveal that Lance Armstrong was a lying sack of crap?

Sure, lets all pretend Stipe vs Jones is something we didn't want in December.

Yeah I was "working" & reading Twitter & when I saw the Jones story pop up I almost thought it was a wind up & had to check a few places, I'd obviously to siphon through the Mayweather/McGregor feat. Malignaggi nonsense from yesterday to confirm. I honestly did not expect to see that story in the headlines yesterday.

Also, I've no idea who Kyrie Irving is. :oldrazz:

You know what actually annoys me most about the tainted supplement excuse. It's the TRT situation all over again, there is almost certainly cases in which an athlete has taken something as simple as an over the counter protein shake or legal drug that has contained something that has flagged a USADA/general drugs test. Also likewise I'm sure there have been some athletes that genuinely have needed TRT for some sort of underlining medical condition.

It's the same in the sense that suddenly everybody conveniently had a condition for TRT now also conveniently everybody seems to have had a bad batch of supplements to blame when they fail a test.. :whatever:

This is an foolish viewpoint. Look at sort of domination Armstrong enjoyed in his career, now apply that to a combat sport like MMA in which the goal isn't to beat someone in a race, it's to smash their head with your fist, elbow, knee or shinbone as hard as you can.. look at Vitor Belfort & the permanent (I believe) damage he did to Michael Bisping's eye when he was on TRT & looked like The Hulk, compare that to how he was after TRT got banned. A lot of these guys, including Jones, are going to be extremely good fighters with or without PED's, but when they go on them they go from being extremely good & dangerous to outright monstrous killers.

The UFC bringing USADA in to clean out, at least the UFC roster, of cheaters has been one of the best things to happen to the sport.. it's also ironically probably cost them hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. I actually wish the likes the commissions, federations & sanctioning bodies would essentially bring USADA on board at their end so it effects all MMA across every organisation as well as boxing, kickboxing & other combat sports which you can bet are as filled with fighters getting away with using PEDs.

Fans are entitled, spoiled and hypocritical. They want it both ways and they play it both ways.

Jon Jones is a disgrace to the sport. He has no one to blame but himself.

Jon Jones has cost not only the UFC, but himself so, so much money.

If he wasn't self sabotaging himself he'd probably be not only the undisputed P4P best fighter on the planet, but probably the sports biggest PPV draw.

It's really a shame someone so talented has cost himself through all these out of the cage problems.

Will be good to see McGregor back in UFC. Good statement from him about the Mayweather fight.

I don't really disagree with that decision, but I don't care for Amanda Nunes right now.

Was a decent enough card in reality, but on paper it looked quite thin particularly after DJ's fight got scrapped last minute.

Melendez has got heart, Stephens absolutely destroyed his leg.
