🄊 The Official Boxing Thread!!! - Part 5

Probably but still the reactions of " OMG he's been suspended" is funny.

Brutal end to Price Povetkin.

Next up Joshua Vs Parker.

His head must have been scrambled. Would have been much better just going down rather than staying up and getting totally clocked for free.

Referee ruined that fight. Was impressed with Joshua's jab and ring control. Parker is a tough cookie though.

Agreed. How does someone like that get to ref a fight between 2 champions? He ruined it from a spectacle standpoint. Joshua looked like he had a solid game plan and stuck to it. Boxed better than he has done recently without being able to hurt Parker who deserves credit. The ref took away his only real chance of winning though by breaking the fight up so much.

Man, I was calling out that ref before the announcers said a word about him. I guess they have to be a little more careful than I do. Who IS this guy anyway? I saw better refs down at the Olympic in LA working amateur fights. Get that guy some training or get him out of the sport. What a bunch of BS.

Anyway, if Wilder ever gets into the ring with either of these guys, he better knock them out because, based on his last fight, he's sure as hell not going to win a decision. Wilder IMO is going to lose against either or these guys (barring a KO) because he's too hesitant. If he thinks he can get tagged, he lays back. It was a good thing he caught Ortiz, because he was losing that fight and maybe saved us from another bogus decision.

Parker is a tough guy to fight; is tough to look good against, but the scoring was a typical hometown decision. I had Joshua up maybe 8-4 or 7-5. A lot of those rounds were difficult to judge. 11-1? 10-2? Nah.....

Not the best fight I've seen recently and this is exactly why I like the lighter divisions better. They're just better, more entertaining fights. Looking forward to the Alvarez/Golovkin if it ever happens. No matter what the outcome, Canelo loses and it's hard to understand him being that stupid or out of the loop.

Lomo v Linares may very well be the best fight we've seen in a while if Linares can stay busy. He has a ton of talent, but I'm not sure about his motor and I could easily see him being cut up and stopped. I could also see Lomo just breaking him down over 7 or 8 rounds. Lomo is a physical freak. Word has it, he can do one armed pull ups and I've seen him jumping from a handstand. I used to be able to press to a handstand pretty easily and could do several push ups from a handstand, but jumping??? Not a chance.

Someday, he's gonna lose and you guys are gonna be all over me. LOL.

Wilder is fundamentally sloppy as a boxer. He's should be praying daily he got blessed with a ridiculous amount of power and his windmill action helps.

Going to be interesting if he ever faces someone with similar size, power and speed/reactions who can box.

Surely there is someone official looking at this refereeing performance and realising something needs to be done. There has to be some consistency. Any guy who is strong on the inside and weak from range is going to be at a huge disadvantage with this guy, and no point putting all that work into fighting up close if you can't use it on the big day. Plus it can turn a promising fight into a bore when he breaks up the action so quickly.

To put it bluntly, I don't think I've ever seen a worse referee. I've seen guys not deduct for low blows when it got blatant (Lomo vs Salcido comes to mind), I've seen them stop (and not stop) fights when I thought the opposite should happen, and seen all kinds of weird things, but I've seen a ref who is incompetent to this extent. Terrible, terrible job. They ought to hold up his paycheck. I don't think it affected the outcome, but the ref stunk it up.

Just saw the fight, I think Joshua clearly won but it was nowhere near the shut out the judges made it out to be. I still think he beats Wilder if he boxes but I still have that fight at 50/50 because even when Wilder is out of a fight completely, he's still in it. AJ has a really suspect chin as Parker and Klit have both hurt him in their fights. I can only imagine if Wilder hits AJ with that right hand. Honestly? I think Ortiz would beat Joshua.

Parker didn't hurt him at all man. He looked the same at the end of 12 rounds as when he came in.

Also if AJ lands that uppercut of his then Wilder is gone. The uppercut that connected with Wlad would've taken out a baby rhino.

Yeah but he boxed AJ. Again, I had AJ clearly winning but just have serious doubts about his chin. If Parker had him thinking about being dazed, I can see Wilder giving him nightmares.

Yes agree, Wilder has a big punchers chance. But if AJ boxes in a similar style like he did with Parker then I can't see Wilder coming close. He doesn't have the basic technique or amateur pedigree of AJ.

Fight is off. Canelo ruining everything, GGG just getting older.

G needs Billie Joe Saunders belt to become Undisputed Middleweight champ. Also he tweeted he's still fighting on the night.

We see it pretty much the same way WRT the outcome of that fight. In fact, I don't think there's too much disagreement anywhere on this thread. I had the fight maybe 8-4 or 7-5. Ortiz would definitely have a better chance against Joshua if the fight went the distance than would Wilder, but I'd give Joshua (and maybe Parker) the edge against Ortiz over 12. They both displayed a really nice jab and that's often an underrated weapon because it sets everything else up. The thing about Wilder, IMO, is that he HAS to knock out a good fighter in order to beat them. He's just not that good of a boxer.

If I'm Joshua, I use that jab to work my way in (carefully....). Joshua showed me he's dangerous inside with that uppercut and I don't like Wilder's chances at that range. Joshua is just a better fighter. So is (was??) Ortiz and so is Parker. Wilder doesn't like getting hit (no one does really, but some realize they have to take a punch now and then) and almost refuses to throw if he thinks he may get tagged. I saw guys like Joe Frazier and Evander Holyfield who came into the ring with the intent to hurt you and if they had to take a few punches, so be it. Wilder has none of that. Just not that impressed.

Joshua has been hurt twice but he's also only been punched hard twice. Against Whyte and Klitschko. I don't think his chin's great.

Gun to your head, who you got? Wilder or AJ?

I don't either. Especially with a guy who's longer and has one punch power like Wilder. Part of me thinks his camp knows this and kind of biding time. With the Fury fight, even though there's a lot of money involved, he doesn't have the one punch power of Wilder. I actually think Fury vs. Wilder would be more entertaining.

Every boxer get's tagged and at Heavyweight it's a given. I don't care who you are but if a 255lb man with pure muscle and body fat of what 10% connects you're going down. And isn't showing you got the heart to go down and get back up and KO the other guy?

Against a guy on the way out? Nah, it just shows you have no chin. Prime Wlad would of ruined him.

Prime Wlad was in a crap division and ruled it bar his older and better brother who he wouldn't fight.

That also doesn't take away the fact the man went down, dug deep and came back up. I mean do we really want a man to stay down when we know he can get back up?

Does it go the distance? LOL.

If I had to guess, I'd say AJ.
