🥊 The Official Boxing Thread!!! - Part 5

I also think Fury had the win guaranteed going in to the 12th round.
A combination of Fury knowing he had done enough and Wilder knowing he needed to knock him out was a deciding factor, that led to Wilder taking down Fury and the final draw being awarded. I think Fury might have relaxed just a bit too much and likely was already thinking about the win. Wilder did his thing and the only thing he could do to no loose his WBC title.

In the end of the day we really saw what both fighters had to give. A great boxer boxed his way through the 12 rounds almost achieving victory with a great puncher almost taking the W in a swift knocked down in the 12th round.

Looking forward for a rematch on home soil.

So apparently the Canadian judge gave it to Fury, the Mexican judge gave it to Wilder and the British judge was the one to score it a draw. Apparently there wasn't even an American to blame for this. :hehe:

I suffered for Tyson when i saw him being taken down in the 12th round. My heart was racing and i feared for his health and the outcome of the fight. Thankfully Tyson came back. Him returning in the last second, in that fashion, perfectly encapsulates his comeback in life... From the brink of defeat he rose from the ashes.

I've never been a fan of Fury, but he both performed very impressively here after so recently being in all kinds of trouble and also took the result like a sportsman. He has gone up massively in my estimation after last night.

Real talk, this has been the most active this thread has been as far as I can remember. This is even after Manny/Floyd and GGG/Canelo. Just shows that the heavyweight division can thrive with the right guys in it. Just curious if any of you guys had Wilder winning. I had Fury winning by a point or two but don't see this as a robbery at all, just a close fight. I think most are mad that one judge had Wilder winning by four rounds but I wonder how things would look if that judge had him winning by one round.

I don't strictly think it was a robbery no, Wilder's 2 knockdown 10-8 rounds were the only thing that made the scorecards close. I only watched the fight once but I'd still have had it 114-112 Fury even with the 2 10-8 rounds. I thought he won 5 out of the initial 6 rounds, if I recall I think Wilder won the 1st & 7th 10-9 & then 8th & 12th 10-8.

I thought Fury was quite comfortably outboxing him for most of the bout, which was to be expected. He had 2 lapses in his defense & it cost him the fight.

I think the main reason people are calling it a robbery isn't because it was a draw, I think most can accept the result of the draw it's how we arrived at the draw ie 115-111 scorecard in Wilder's favour are you f-ing kidding me? Deontay Wilder's mother wouldn't have even scored the fight like that & I'm sure she's his biggest fan. But hey, it's boxing judging at it's finest, to quote Nate Diaz -

This is why I don't follow boxing anymore.

How the British judge got a draw is beyond me (*cough* payoff *cough*) but that Mexican judge is up there with Adelaide Byrd as just straight up incompetent and honestly shouldn't be able to judge again.

Fury would have won that fight anywhere on earth other than the US.

That ”115 - 111” grade is just outrageous.
I do think that “robbed” is a bit of an exaggeration but yeh Fury should have won it.

I think both fighters can take a lot of experience from this fight and use it in a rematch. Wilder can be more patient and figure out a way to go around Fury’s defense. While Fury can improve imo at a physical level and really unleash on Wilder in a more drastic manner... he was quite cautious and didn’t really took advantage of Wilder when he was clearly shook throughout the fight.

It's not incompetence. It's corruption.

Not sure if official but hearing Frank Warren is to launch a complaint against the decision and against Mexican judge Alejandro Rochin.

Im never one to usually advocate for people losing there job but I hope this guy losses his.

Wilder needs a new trainer but at 33 not sure how much he can learn. He's wild AF sometimes and Fury just straight made him look silly at times.

It would be much more understandable in that case. It is only that judge that we really have to question. I think it feels like much more than a robbery due to how far ahead most of us thought Fury was before the knockdowns. The knockdowns actually make it much closer but when your head already has calculated that a Wilder win is impossible by a certain round regardless of knockdowns, to then hear the result going in favour of Wilder by 4 points by one judge seems utterly ridiculous.

I don't think Wilder will ever change. He is that fighter and that's it. It's working for him and he has a few more years at the highest level.

Fury outclassed Wilder. One thing i thought Fury didn't do well and i think Freddie Roach also agrees with this assessment is that Fury didn't took advantage of the times he wobbled and hurt Wilder. Fury was very respectful of Wilder's power but he could and should have gone hard on Wilder at certain points. Fury hurt and got to Wilder several times but then he didn't follow through... In that regard Ortiz took advantage of the time he rocked Wilder and started really unloading on him and could have easily knocked down Wilder if the round didn't stop straight away. Ortiz when he got that opening he really rolled with it. Fury always regrouped instead of really punishing Wilder.

Can't Fury get the lineal heavyweight title back?
He vacated the title but technically he still is The Man. He should be recognized as the lineal champion.

Yeah, this guy has no idea (or took a nice cheque for his efforts). Anyone in the audience could have done a more accurate job, even the guys in the back row.

Wilder can finally take some standard boxing lessons. His speed, power, size and reach have carried him this far but when fighting someone of Fury's size who can move well and can box, that isn't always going to be enough.

He's got every right to.

He obviously has great underlying power and speed, and if he learned to box he could be a whole lot better.

Someone should use this song on the video of Fury getting up. Viral stuff. :D
