Best points from this article:

1. Andrew Garfield

The hot rising English actor screams all the new things about this movie; good looking, cool, intelligent and with fabulously alternative hair that makes him look like a cast member from Digimon. He is an exciting actor to want to watch for two hours. From the officially released images we’ve seen he also looks smashing in spandex if you don’t mind me saying.

Going past him looking the part, Garfield also has brilliant acting skills to draw upon to help make Peter Parker a funny, emotional, believable character…Not just one who swings through the air and screams ‘Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo’ like a certain Tobey Maguire.

He was incredibly good in “Boy A”, very good in “The Social Network” and now gets his chance to anchor a mainstream film for the first time. I for one can’t wait to see what he does with this.

3. The Soundtrack

Ever watched “(500) Days of Summer?” If you haven’t, besides being robbed of a brilliant film or happening to not have the emotional capacity of a 13 year old girl, you will have missed the cracking soundtrack picked out by Marc Webb, who just happens to be directing this spandex clad adventurous romp.

His previous directorial effort got us toe-tapping, moved, and generally emotional and it’s plain to see that this will happen in this film. The 8 minutes of preview footage shown early this year is said to feature some brilliant song choices and the trailers so far have impressive alternative rock music and, dare I say it, even dubstep. An apt song can elevate a film from good to great, luckily for “The Amazing Spider-Man” it has a man apt at picking 10 of them.

7. The Style

Pardon me for thinking that Marvel films have taken on a boring look of recent years of everything being shiny and nice and happy and, quite frankly, dull to watch due to all the sunny optimism even during night time scenes.

Christopher Nolan doesn’t absolve responsibility here, his style of filming everything in steady cam with dull greys also grates during your 4th hour of the film, which is why I think this film looks so refreshing.

Early footage of the action, the style and the CGI promises this to be a more vibrant looking, tonal and kinetic piece than others that have become for it, making it a more interesting visual experience whilst also engrossing is more in to the action.

8. Marc Webb

An up-and-coming director given a bite at the big time before the few more charmingly indie flicks most up-and-coming directors would need to make to get such a budget and story. However this only brings more interesting ideas, this is not a man used to working hand in hand with a studio and therefore won’t be too broken by the system to want to glamorise his story.

His fresh face, new ideas and faith shown in him by the studio could elevate this to Batman levels of superhero ingenuity.

9. It Could Be Nice To See Things Simplified Again

This summer boasts the amalgamation of several (it seems) thousand Marvel comic book films in The Avengers, the completion of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, an exploration of a previous films mythology.

All in all, it might be nice to return to the simple origins of a character, get to know this one’s basic issues, thoughts and life before sequels happen and it crushes all of the life out of it. With big conclusions, combinations and explorations happening this summer, a simple return to a new origins story might be something we can all get behind.

It won't be the best movie of 2012.

Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha.

One good thing about this thread...we have something as clueless as the article itself now.

I'm not sure about the best, but I'm positive it'll be one of the best.

5 Reasons Why ASM Probably Won't be the Best Movie of 2012

- Marc Webb.

He's directed one movie and has no clout in Hollywood as of yet. He has no pull and Sony can have their way with him. Wolverine Origins ring a bell? Give Webb a chance but don't think he is one of the greatest directors of all time at this very early point in his career to be able to make the best Spider-Man movie and even the best movie of the year. He isn't a show runner yet along the likes of Chris Nolan.

- Sony

Avi Arad is a pit stain on comic movies. He is the Tom Rothman of Spider-Man movies. He helped ruin Spider-Man while Sony execs were ruining Spider-Man 4. They are all at the helm of this movie. With a new director that is getting his feet wet, Marc could have been likely plowed over by Sony executives and Avi Arad.

- Too much CGI

Everyone was excited about the practical stunts and how this movie seemed to be trying for more practical effects from the get go. Well, that changed to a ton of CGI and a completely all CGI villain. So what's the main issue here? Sony Imageworks. They are far from the best in the biz so don't expect mind blowing CGI or ultra realistic looking effects. This movie will likely be dated in 10 years like a lot of the effects in SM 1-3 as SIW seems behind the pack anyways.

- The origination of the script.

This script was written as an alternative to a possibly failing 4th Spidey movie. It wasn't developed out of love and admiration for the characters and story like say Joss Whedon for Avengers, Chris Nolan for TDK, or Peter Jackson and LotR. Marc Webb wasn't there on day one and the Vanderbilt script was penned before Marc was even was contacted by Sony. When a director is involved day one, it usually leads to a labor of love movie. That doesn't mean it will be a bad movie, it just doesn't instill abundant amounts of confidence that it will be the best movie it can be. The script could still be great, but it's going up against 4 labor of love scripts: Prometheus, Avengers, Hobbit, and TDKR. So, it will likely not be the best movie of 2012.

- TDKR, Prometheus, Avengers, and The Hobbit. Nuff said.

Could still be a good movie, idk yet...we will see.

You should've put point number 4 on your list webhead. This guy thinks Spider-man shouldn't have a secret identity and thinks it's great his mask is getting ripped off all the time. Peter Parker is not Tony Stark or the Fantastic Four, his identity should be kept secret.

Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha.

One good thing about this thread...we have something as clueless as the article itself now.

Didn't say I agreed.. Or are you referring to the guy who wrote it?
I just thought it was interesting someone had THAT much faith in it. (Even though the best film of 2012 will probably, for me, be The Avengers)

Yeah.. I'm not sure what he was thinking. Guy is mental or something.

Just because we've started to see more of the larger action set pieces towards the end of the film that require tons of CGI doesn't mean the practical stunts won't be there.

The only practical swinging I have seen is underneath the bridge and when he is lowering himself into the sewer. All the high city swinging in the trailer looks all cgi like in the Raimi movies and then of course the Lizard is all cgi. As you mentioned, the entire final battle looks all cgi except for a few shots of Andrew's face. It has a lot of cgi. That can be good or bad depending on how well it's done. With Sony Imageworks behind it...I am not too optimistic. It could be good, we will see. But, with all the complaints about the previous movies looking dated, this movie seems to have fallen into the same pitfalls by doing so much in cgi....because in 10 years this cgi will look like a joke. You have to mix cgi and practical effects to reach that sweet spot. It's the reason why Jurassic Park still largely looks good to this day.

Top 10 possibly. When you have TDKR, Avengers, Prometheus, Skyfall, Django Unchained, The Master, Lawless, The Hobbit, Gangster Squad and Looper all in the same year...

That's ten films not counting TAMS and for me & my tastes, it COULD end up in the bottom 5 of that list. Even if it's still a good movie. There's no question it'll massacre Spidey 3, but the other 2? Im doubting it, even though i hope it succeeds. And im not even the biggest fan of Raimis.

Im not too excited for Hobbit or Looper but they may win me over, and Amazing Spider-Man is getting a 50/50 response from me as of now. The most it'll do is take over Gangster Squad and Lawless, and that would surprise me in the best way

People can see into the future now? Cool. That's great to know that it will be way better than Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises, Lincoln, The Great Gatsby, The Hobbit, Django Unchained, To Rome with Love and a bunch of other really interesting looking movies I haven't seen either.

What?

I'm going to agree with those

WHAT?
That one should be ready for a let down, probably not gonna be the best movie of this year for him for all those reasons

Spider-Man needs a secret, small fry need their secrets, he's not in hideaways like Punisher

Agreed. Especially with the CGI part. With all the talk of practical swinging back in the day, I must say im a bit disappointed.

Like I said above, no one has seen the entire film. You can't write off the fact that they did practical stunts and web slinging just because the trailers showed mostly cgi sequences of the film involving the Lizard, which I think was a necessity when it comes to capturing that kind of character.

Well you can't have a guy swinging around NYC high rises, of course it was going to be CGI.

And Prometheus will be the best film of the year :D

From a design point of view, the costume still really irks me.. it just feels very overdesigned, and I don't like how PArker seems to be more of a hipster these days either :/

Aggreeing with everything Chasester said, but going to add "OTT use of of headache inducing 3D" to the list too.

The only thing that's really got me excited about this movie so far is a blonde Emma Stone, but I'll definately give it a fair chance in the theatres. Highly doubting it's going to be the best picture of the year though.

He IS NOT A HIPSTER. This is a hipster:

Peter Parkers normal clothes, Ultimate SM and TSSM Anyone:

Wearing skinny jeans, Nikes and beanies doesnt mean your hipster.

I WOULD KNOW I DRESS LIKE PETER PARKER.

Yeah, the term "hipster" is thrown around way too much. It seems as though nobody has any idea what an actual hipster is.

Its true most people on the internet nerd forums dont know what Hipster means, that all started when this image came up:

asm-garfield.jpg

That is a normal NY person in my eyes.
