I love the fact that instead of thinking about it yourself you took a quote from another board which is uses little logic. So ****ing what if the NFL is a bilion dollar business, does that still mean congress needs to step in over something? There's unethical practices in businesses all the time some minor, some major.The Government doesnt always step in and this is not a business move either.

How did Goddell tamper with the "product"? He didnt tell the Pats to film the Jets.

Use your head though Donnie: Are the only 2 cases (one which is a rumour at this point btw) gonna impact or further impact the defciet of the economy? No. If we inflict penalities on New England, is our economy saved enough to become a surplus? No.Is it gonna allow the Patroits to become a monopoly from a business standpoint and "Takeover and buy out" smaller ball clubs? No, its football everyone makes money.
2 cases of a team videotaping is hardly worth the US Congress stepping. Do you know how bloddy ******ed it sounds. Congress didnt have to step in the Tim Donoghay situation. One can even debate if they needed to in the steriod allegations in Baseball but with that what we have was a situation where it was directly effecting the athletic evolution of the game. Videotapping a practice is hardly the same.
All you need is the NFL to penalise the Patroits and that is the end of the story. You dont need some congressmen trying to make a name for himself somehow when everything else he has done never got attention.


Yeah its unethical cheating but it doesnt need the bloddy congress, the same idiots that botch shyt like Iraq. **** em....

I have a feeling the Pats are hardly the only team to videotape their competition like that, they just happened to get caught. I agree it's probably overkill for Congress to get involved in this, but then again, it's Arlen Specter so what do you expect?

I dont even care for the Pats. But this situation does NOT need congress to involve itself.
A series of videotapped practices is hardly gonna cause such a shift of finances in the league.

We blew it with all those Int's towards the end, otherwise they played them really well.

You have to punch the Patriots in the mouth, you can't play passive defenses against them like the Jaguars and Chargers did. Eventually they will come get you.

I don't know, my feeling is that this whole spygate thing could have effected the outcome of games, potentially a Superbowl then its something that needs to be examined further. The NFL definately laid the hammer down on The Pats, I didn't have any issue with that, but Goddell requested all video tapes, and asked about specfic games that were taped. If reports are true and there are other tapes, then the investigation wasn't a complete success. Maybe someone else needs to do dig a little deeper this time.

In regards to the Pats next year, a couple of articles suggest that it may come down to either Moss or Samuel. There not 100% that both will be able to get in under the cap. Stallworth is gone.

Look all we now is that this issue was dealt with after week 1 and now some rumour pops up on Superbowl weekend of them filming 6 years earlier. Coincidence? no.
I still dont see how videotapping practices is as bad as steriods. Its lame and unethical and shows how desperate Belichik is to win but when consider some practices are open to the public and you can read team's plays on old video tapes of games, its not like it ruins a so called era.
Its like Jag says some people and some teams may do it a lot but if you really think about it: It still hardly warrants congress and how do you expect to forsee such a thing? Anyone can spy on anyone? At least they caught em out and now its done. In a year of Pacman and Vick's trouble, this was bad but not Awful. I just dont see it being this big mushroom cloud of a disaster for the NFL.

After my 3 day trip of getting drunk and watching the Super Bowl, I'd like to give you my thoughts on the Super Bowl 42.

First off, I would like to congratulate the New York Giants on winning Super Bowl XLII. You guys had a spectacular run through the playoffs. I underestimated you, I looked past you and I said you weren't going to do it. I was wrong.

As for the Patriots and their fans, I'm not going to come in here and say I told you so. The Patriots had an unbelievable season and had this Super Bowl in their grasp. I had New England winning this game 31-20 because I didn't think the Giants were going to pull it off. I also wanted the Pats to win so they would shut up the '72 Dolphins.

1st half was boring as hell , but both defenses played very great though. I was expecting a high scoring game like we saw in week 17. After Maroney scored the Patriots first TD, I thought they were going to take control from there.

Halftime = Cigarettes and Food

Third Quarter -

The fourth quarter had to have been one of the greatest 4th quarters I have ever seen. Manning ducking and swerving to avoid a sack and to throw it down field to David Tyree who himself made a spectacular catch. Then the touchdown by Buress. Just an amazing set of plays they put together to cap off one of the greatest drives in Super Bowl history.

I'm not going to comment on Belichick's early exit.

I again want to congratualte Eli Manning, Tom Coughlin and the rest of the Giants organization on a job well done. You're the best team in football.

What do you think about Eli getting the MVP? I've heard the arguments that the defense should have gotten it, either the front line as a whole or single out one of them, Jonathan Tuck in specific. But I think Eli getting it was the right call. I think of it like this:

The Giants defense played great BUT they allowed that methodical almost expected Brady drive down the field late in the 4th and left Moss open in the end zone for what looked to be the game winning TD. They couldn't hold them to a field goal, they couldn't keep them from the end zone when it mattered the most. In the end it all ended up on Manning's shoulders and he led them when no one thought he had a chance at that point.

whatever, Giants played better obv and well have next season to shut up all the haters again.

I loved it that he b'tched til he was traded to the Pats because he wanted a win.

I think next season we may just be better than we were this time. This was our season to "gel" and "get used" to each other...

But the defense played well enough to allow Eli a chance to win it in the end. It could very well have been 31-10 if not for the defense at that point, given the expolsiveness of the NE offense. Just my two cents.

I agree with you. I believe it was the right call to give Eli the MVP, and here's why. This game came down to the 4th quarter where most of the points came. You can argue that the Giants defense held the Patriots to 7 points for three quarters, but like you said, they allowed the Patriots to drive down the field late in the 4th for a TD when the game matterd the most. Justin Tuck played amazing with 2 sacks, but Eli won them this game with that amazing drive and play.

The QB pretty much gets MVP off default unless someone has a truly noteworthy game. I felt that D-Line was at the heart of that victory and thought there was an outside chance of a split Tuck/Strahan vote. However, seeing that neither was so exceptional that it would have warranted singling them out, I knew Eli would get it. I would have picked the split vote or said to hell with it and cited them all.

The Giants D gave up the go-ahead TD and Eli manned the team like a champ right after to win the game, but I marveled at what a phenomenal job the defense had done throughout the whole game. It was unreal how they got to Brady. If prior to the game, someone would have said that New York's pass rush would harass Brady all night, sacking him 5 times and the Patriots would only score 14 points (half of that coming in the final stages of the game), the subsequent amount of laughter would have been insane. The defense pulled the wagon yesterday.

Right. The Patriots defense is going to be remembered in that game for playing well but not well enough in the most critical times. That's basically what the Giant's defense would have been remembered as too if Eli hadn't marched them down the field and won it.
