2009 MLB Thread, part 2

They need a starter. Do what the Red Sox did after 2003 and get someone to go behind their ace.

Heyman says they won't go after Lackey....you never know though. Maybe they try and trade for Halladay.

Pedros always been a big gamer...Id be pretty damn nervous if i was a yankees fan.

Yanks will bomb Pedro... and if Pedro happens to pitch well, I think Burnett will keep it close as well. It's either going to be a complete slug fest or a somewhat tight, back and forth game. The bullpens will decide game 2.

I said it before though

CC = Lee in terms of initial matchups...So we lost this

But AJ > Pedro...We have to win this game. Cliff Lee, I knew is a big game pitcher. We need to work on everyone else

I was of course, furious and upset after this game...but I think Philadelphia is just better overall. What I really hope the Yankees do after losing this series is gut their entire franchise...I think they need a total reboot and rebuild. In 5 years I'd like to see the current roster completely gone.

Kurosawa, how exactly do you expect them to field a better team? Spend more money? You take self-hating Yankee fan to a new level. They lost one game against an incredibly dominant starting pitcher, that hardly makes them a bad team. Besides, that core roster isn't changing anytime soon, what with A-Rod, CC, and Tex signed for the better part of the next decade on completely untradable contracts.

Rebuild after a 103-win season and AL Pennant

Neither of which will break the Curse of 2004.

I'd like them to spend less money actually, by completely gutting the roster and accepting several down years. CC will opt out in 3 years, and maybe ARod will have a career ending injury. Tex is there to stay, which sucks because he is another chokeartist loser.

They won't do that though, so they will continue to be just good enough to lose. This franchise will not win another WS for years, most likely decades.

If MLB continues to exist for that long...I don't know how much having the most important franchise become a joke will hurt it.

Haha, I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that it wont be decades before the Yankees win another World Series. They have a great chance right now, although they have an obstacle to overcome named Cliff Lee.

Cubs and Red Sox spent plenty of money too...it takes more than that to win a WS.

The Yankees have 2 players who could even start for Philly-ARod and maybe Jeter. The Phillies are just vastly superior overall.

Never have I heard someone complain so much about their team adding so many world class players. Seriously, they've made it farther then they had since 2004 (btw curses don't exist, especially after 5 measly years) so their core clearly has something going for it.* If they don't win this series, it's pretty much because they ran into the freight train known as Cliff Lee. That's nothing to sneer about, sometimes it just happens. It doesn't suddenly mean that a 103 win AL champion squad is rotten.

Lastly, Kurosawa, I have to ask. Exactly what will your reaction be if the Yankees do win this series?

*This is not an endorsement of the Yankees or their practices, of which I despise.

Cliff Lee struck out Chuck Norris

After reading some of the posts here, I almost believe that it's a one game WS. There is still much game left and the Yankees will figure out Lee. I'm honestly not worried. The rest of the Phillies pitching will be massacred.

That was pretty sweet.

As a Phillies fan, Pedro starting tonight makes me nervous....but I think Burnett might be shakey as well. I think Hamels vs Petitte will be huge. If we can pull that out I like our chances. With Lee throwing 120 pitches last night he probably won't pitch Game 4.

:lmao:

You guys are gonna have to throw Gaudin probably so I wouldn't be flipping out. Most people would agree that The Phillies have better starting pitching depth then The Yankees so....

You are a Yankee hater in disguise... :cwink:

This is a ridiculous post...Were you not around for 2008 season?

As for this series because of Cliff Lee, people think this is over...I just am reflecting on 1996 and the good old days, when the Yanks lost game 1 to the Braves 12-1 at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees however did not have the bullpen they had.
This bullpen looks terrible...If im the manager, i will only use Joba and Robertson right now. Hughes has been terrible...Bruney sucks, Aceves sucks...
Use Coke and Marte for lefties.

We are really depending on our staff to go 7+ innings. ugh...
I still feel this is a 7 game series, but we have to win today. No question about it.
AJ I hope your curveball finds the plate and not fly into the stands.

Well, Yankees definitely got a punch in the mouth in Game 1 of WS last night. Cliff Lee was magnificient (still can't believe that Phillies got him for just a bunch of prospects), and CC was clearly rattled, not to mention that the potent Yankees lineup couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Tonight is a must-win for Yankees, and although I believe they can get to Pedro, unfortunately AJ also has problems of his own, such as walking too many players. The Phillies have the house money now, and Yankees have to be the ones who respond to the challenge.

Your new avatar suits you.

Dont understand why Manuel left Lee out to throw 122 pitches...If he comes back on short rest, then this could favor the Yanks.

Bench Swisher for Gardner if he does not come to play today.

Lee probably didn't want to come out plus Manuel probably doesn't trust the BP. Lee says he can throw fine on short rest and said it was up to Manuel. Lee is weird when it comes to his arm fatigue. According to him he doesn't ice or anything after starts. I think he could go Game 4 for sure...it will probably depend on what happens the next two games.

Might as well let Lee blow his arm out after this year after he wins you a championship since they probably won't re-sign him in a couple of years. Once less FA for the Yankees.

I hope AJ Burnett will justify his $87 million contract in Game 2.
