2009 MLB Thread, part 2

Cliff had his stuff...Yankees looked bad tonight. Its like they knew they couldn't hit him after like 3 innings.
Tomorrow is a must win for the Yankees.

What a great performance by Cliff Lee tonight. Burnett needs to pitch his ass of tomorrow night. If not, the Phillies will take this easily.

Buck and McCarver were incredibly bored.

I have another reason for the Yankees to lose; they keep playing that new Jay Z song, Empire State of Mind I think it is. I hate it.

Someone on another board said it perfect...ESPN is very confused right now. I think 10 of 12 picked The Yanks to win Game 1.

I'm pleased with tonight's outcome. Lee dominating doesn't surprise, dude has been great the last two years and this postseason.

It felt so weird actually rooting for the Phils. Lesser of the two evils I s'pose.

Definitely bad news for the Yankees. They needed to win with Sabathia on the mound. Course the same is true of the Phillies and Lee. Maybe Jimmy Rollins was right about this one...

A-Rod really loves his bat

A-Rod just makes it too easy sometimes...

If he has another night like this tomorrow, the choker label will be back in full force.

Yeah. When Utley hit his first HR, I thought "First time I've ever been happy to see a Philly hit a HR"

If everyone else hits in the lineup but A-Rod yeah. No one could hit Lee except for Jeter. If Tex doesn't have a good series Yankee fans will let him off easy. He is not yet at A-Rod scapegoat levels.

My ultimate scenario... Yankees lose this. Burnett/Joba/Hughes either undergo major surgery from an injury next year or just regress and become ineffective. Mo loses it overnight. Jeter and A-Fraud get old and can't play anymore, and the Yanks are in complete rebuilding mode in a couple of years. Of course they are always several hundred million from getting back into contention, but as long as its a different nucleus I'll be relieved. Throw in a couple of Met championships in between that.

Things never go that way. Especially that last one.

Sounds like The Mets are gonna go after a top flight LF this offseason...something to look forward too.

Burnett has a 5-8 career record against the Phillies with 2 complete games and an ERA at 4.75.

Martinez has a 11-11 career record against the Yankees with 4 complete games and an ERA at 3.20

They need a starter. Do what the Red Sox did after 2003 and get someone to go behind their ace.
