2009 MLB Thread, part 2

How will it work out then? Throw AJ and Petitte on 3 days twice and CC three times?

He's pitched once this postseason for 1 inning. Pedro at least got a start. I don't see Girardi going to or even trusting him. It's the end of the year. CC, AJ and Pettitte would be their best rotation. Not Joba, Gaudin, Aceves or anyone.

They did that rotation but Petitte pitched on 5 days rest and AJ on 4 days because of a rain out and a day between games 4 and 5. Neither did 3 days. No break between games 4 and 5 this round.

Chad Gaudin-S-Yankees Oct. 27 - 2:29 pm et

Yankees pitching coach Dave Eiland said Tuesday that the Yankees are "stretching out" Chad Gaudin to potentially start Game 5 of the World Series.

New York could go with a three-man rotation of CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte, but that would involve all three pitchers working on short rest and the team may only feel comfortable doing that with Sabathia. Gaudin would likely be limited to 80-90 pitches after spending the first two rounds as a reliever.

I suppose ill eat my words now. Please Yankees, start Gaudin and watch him get destroyed by the Phils. The more you self-destruct the better!

Girardi, on the radio this afternoon, is wary of going to a 3 man rotation. Pettitte hasn't done it since 2006! Plus, he had shoulder fatigue down the stretch of the season. He could pull up with a bum shoulder in the 2nd inning. I don't think Girardi will risk that. My gut tells me Gaudin in Game 5.

And yea, Gaudin could absolutely get destroyed in that game. But is not like the Phillies are countering with Greinke or Lincecum.

Oh poor Pettitte, like I'm supposed to have sympathy. It's the world series! Johnson pitched in relief in game 7 of 01. Pettitte can man up and pitch on 3 days that god-fearing-HGH-taking guy.

Nice find. I remember after the LDS and before Girardi announced just 3 starters for the LCS that he stated he had been pitching Gaudin in simulation to keep him "stretched" out. Even though he hadn't seen real action, he still has been throwing. I fully expect to see him get rocked but it's not like the Phillies are countering with some unhittable ace in that game.

Who is asking for your sympathy? If it's a risk and Girardi won't feel he is effective, Girardi won't do it.

Agreed but both Blanton and Happ are much better then Gaudin.

It may depend on how they're doing in the series at that point. If they have a lead, it'll be easy to throw Gaudin out there. If it's tied or they're behind, they may have to consider it.

But you see, I WANT them to make counter-productive decisions in order to give the Phillies a better chance to win.

But you simply dont understand...The yankees will only try to make productive decisions.

Because of the rain delay it allowed the yanks to use Andy and AJ on a 3 man rotation

The rain delay didn't affect that at all. Pettitte would have still been on full rest if the game had been played on Saturday.

The way he pitched in that inning and the way he's "hitting" might actually make him a better choice than Chad Gaudin...

Gaudin could surprise...Yankees tend to hit like crazy when he pitches, but in his last few starts he wasnt terribad

Gaudin is nothing special, but if the series is going well they should throw him.

12 more hours! It's gonna be deja vu all over again!

^^^was that back when minorites had their own section of the stadium?

Nothing cooler than jumping on the bandwagon like everyone else:up:

Marx isn't a Yankees fan?

Is Hamels modeling for some magazine? lol

Charlie Manuel looks even funnier to me.

It's still early, but it is pouring right now. Hopefully it'll stop by game time.

Rain is supposed to stop somewhere around 6....hope that will give the ground crew enough time to prep the field

I think if the rain stops at 6 or 7 we probably will have a 8:30-9 pm game time start.

Damn I want Whitey Ford to throw the first pitch...In 1950 he owned the Phillies to clinch the world series in his first start then
