AJ...Just didnt have it tonight

His location was off tonight. I still think Girardi made the right decison starting him. There's nothing to prove Gaudin would've pitched any better. And there's nothing to prove that Burnett would've pitched good back in New York.

The real AJ Burnett showed up tonight.

Big blow to the Phils. Reports are coming out that he has a broken hand but who knows. He's in the dugout with a helmet.

Exactly...you fight with your best and these 3 pitchers are our 3 best

Girardi is probably the Phillies MVP behind Cliff Lee at this point. What an asanine move putting Burnett on short rest. Obviously Pedro is going to give it up late in game 6, but Pettite on short rest is no gaurantee either. Maybe the Yanks can still mount a rally today but I definitely like the Phillies chances to force a game 7 as long as the bullpen doesn't melt down tonight.

I knew AJ would blow this game. He's just too inconsistent, a #4 at best.

So what should he have done? Start Chad Guadin this game, and then start AJ in game six and Andy game 7, thus losing CC if we need him? Or not use Andy for game six or seven? Seriously, what exactly should Joe have done here. They've been using the three man all postseason. I see no reason to not use it now, and no other acceptable option.

Dude... you drop Pettite... simple as that. I get that he's Pettite, but you are rolling the dice with him on short rest. If Pedro can keep it close, Yanks can easily let that game slip. You have to go for that dagger in game 6 with a guy on full rest. Besides, I don't even mind Pettite in a game 7 against Hamels. Now this bullpen will be overworked tonight and guys will lose confidence. Even if Gaudin gets bombed, just throw in a long man and concede the game.

There's certainly an argument to be made for either side. You never want to throw a game, but everyone had an inkling that Burnett would blow tonight. Put him on normal rest and back in his home park and it may have gone a lot different. Under that circumstance, who cares if you don't start Pettitte again? You would have had two superior options to him going in Games 6 and 7.

Honestly, I don't really care. I'm just happy Burnett got exposed for the real pitcher he is after all that "He's been so great on 3 days rest before" crap.

you drop Petitte? Terrible.................Because Burnett is so dicey I think its important we stick with consistency then a gamble

I didn't know the Philly Phanatic had an offspring. Its mother must be Birdo.

If Burnett has pitched great and the Yankees won the World Series, it would have been a genius move my Girardi. Instead, he pitched terrible and now he's gonna get criticized for it. Charlie Manuel is getting criticized for not starting Cliff Lee on 3-days rest. Every manager makes a bad move. If the Yankees win the World Series, this won't even be an issue.

Had the ALCS avoided those bull**** off days I think the Yankee rotation would have been exposed. Yanks should have lost game two as it is. Yanks would have went back to NY down 3-2 with Pettite on short rest in game 6. If I am 2-2 then MAYBE I consider going for it all game 5 and putting my number two on short rest. 3-1 and it's not even an issue. But that's only if I get a quality start from my ace in game 4 in order to be confident that he'll be fine again in game 7. When I have an offense like the Yankees though there is no reason not to use a fourth starter. Girardi will get a pass once the Yanks wrap it up, but should they choke I think he'll be fired if he does not win in 2010.

Pettitte on short rest is a much bigger gamble than Burnett on full rest.

And Gaudin keeping your club in the ball game is just as good as Burnett on the road on 3 days IMO.

And it looks like it will be a classic Pedro vs Pettite showdown. Two men enter, one man leaves... until the other guys gets pulled a few innings later of course... :cwink: We know how that story ends though... 3 run inning bottom 7 off Pedro, Yanks go up 4-2.

Why is Lee still pitching? I thought they intended to use him in relief come Game 7. Plus he looks done tonight.

I was thinking the same thing. They should have took him out after that last inning. They had a good comfortable lead.

I think the Yankees just showed Philly doesn't have a chance to win out. The Yankees early to midle line up are just too damn good.

More like the Phillies bullpen is just that bad/untrustworthy.

They said he can still throw in Game & if one happens. He has a scheduled side session which he would skip. His limit would be 40-50 pitches though.

Same can be said for The Phils.

I think it's safe to say that Jerry is the smartest Manuel managing in baseball.
