2009 MLB Thread, part 2

I dont want to get ahead of myself, but at the start of the season...Would you have envisioned the Yankees ending the world series at Yankee stadium against Pedro Martinez ? This is what baseball is all about.

Seriously though...this game will probably run into the bullpen.

I don't want to jinx anything either, but I wouldn't have imagined this scenario.

This has been one of the more entertaining WS in a long time.

I agree.

Madsen should have blown it. Spare us of Pedro Blows up at Yankees stadium Act 3984570893. Man the closer situation has been **** this October. So here's the deal. Phillies are up 3-2ish... let's hypthetically say Pedro is up at 90 something pitches going into the bottom of the seventh. Do you stick with him? Do you take him out the moment a runner gets on? Assuming Pedro doesn't finish the seventh and you have to clean up with either Park/Happ, who do you bring in if you are Manuel for the 8th/9th? If that Yanks have a lead after seven the game is pretty much over as it is, but how do you do play those chips in the bullpen if you are Manuel?

My feeling is that if Pedro is pitching good through 5 they will look at Happ, then Park, and Madson. Blanton might see sometime.

It's a competitive series. Better than another boring sweep.

If the Yanks blow this series, Girardi must be fired at least. I'll probably be on suicide/homicide watch.

Not saying a whole lot. 04, 05, and 07 were sweeps. Tigers stunk in 06. Last year was FUBARd by the weather.

I think 2002 was the last time it was so intense...However the 2003 ticked me off, because the Yankees couldnt hit a beach ball

Ok, who had Kurosawa jumping back on the bandwagon before the sixth game?

One run game in the ninth inning, and your eigth inning guy has already thrown 15-20 pitches. Lets say you have Lidge, Blanton, or Madson a second inning in a row. Who do you bring out?

I've never trusted this organization since the 2004 ALCS destroyed everything the Yankees once stood for.

Girardi isn't getting fired.

He blows a 3-1 lead he should never manage in MLB again. Losing this series will be the nail in the coffin for the once great Yankee franchise.

If the Yankees had any brains the next hit Utley would have is the same kinds of hits they've been putting on ARod all series. In the ribs.

I'm surprised they keep pitching to him. They should just walk him.

I'd keep in Madson and maybe play the matchups. Use Eyre against the lefties or turn around Tex. Play every out. Charlie sadly will probably bring out Lidge:csad:

I was so hoping for jeter not to get into a double play.

When I saw Lidge warm up...oh man, shades of Byung yung Kim or whatever that D-Backs closers name was

Dude your nuts. You don't bring in a specialist for each guy in the ninth freaking inning. If Madson and Park have been maxed out, you don't bring those guys out a second inning. Lidge is your guy. You live and die with him.

Eyre gets outs though and sadly he's one of our better BP guys. They have Durbin and Myers as options...albeit not great ones.

Lidge just scares me. He pitched great up until two strikes on Damon the other night.

Girardi won over 100 games with this team. The Yankees aren't going to change coaches when Girardi has obviously been succesful through the season. They didn't fire Torre after the 2004 meltdown. If Girardi gets fired over this, it would be one of the most idiotic moves I've ever seen.

It was a tie game. You can't put Lidge there in that situation even as the closer with the struggles he's had. You also can't go with a committee in the ninth inning. I think the bigger the moment the more effective he'd be, meaning one or two run game and you need three outs. Tie game or 4-5 run game then **** no. Most of the specialists will be used by the ninth inning and all you will have are long men like Myers and Blanton at that point. Just throw him into the fire game 6 and get his confidence up. Hope Hamels gives you a complete game.

hmm..i tought it started good but then burnett crushed. okay, nothing to worry about. series goes back to new york. our stadium, the best fans in the world, pedro needs to be massiv to give his team a chance. we just need 6 solid innings andy, nothing else.

I do agree 100% with you that Lidge should not have been pitching in the first place in a tie situation. He's been pretty bad in those all year.

He and Lee have won them the two games all by themselves. He's a great player. But they Yanks need to drill him. He's emasculated the franchise.
