Defense....anyone,
If this is Kurt's last season, Manning could play til 50.

It's funny that the Cardinals gave up 45 points in a game where they played great defense.

I'd like to see both teams get at least one possession before it becomes sudden death. In a case like yesterday, the game would still have been over right then and there since both teams got a possession (one was defensive) and the Cardinals scored first. If the Packers scored a FG or TD, I would have liked for the Cardinals to get one posession to try and match or beat the Packers' result, with it going to sudden death if the game is still tied at that point.

Defense would still be important because if the pick 6 didn't happen but the Cards still got a stop out of the Packers, then the offense has a chance to end the game, which forces GB's defense to step up. Likewise, if the Pack had scored and their defense stopped the Cards or got a turnover, then the game is over.

I definitely do NOT want to see college overtime in the NFL, sue to how it basically puts defense in second place.

If both teams want to possess the ball, then play better defense - that's the answer.

Again, I believe the season numbers will now show that the team that started on defense won MORE times than the team that started on offense - destroying the controversy.

The best change, as I have stated earlier, would be to simply remove the second coin toss. That way, every single player on the field knows who gets the ball first. If a team scores with 2 seconds left knowing these things: they are down by one point (PAT pending), they don't trust their defense, they kicked the ball off at the start of the game - they are much better prepared to make a decision about going for 2.

Also: seems like we are moving closer to the Mike Leach Oakland Oasis.

Seems Davis will fire Cable today. Bad move with the potential to work out well if Leach is hired.

Yup, Cable had his Al Davis standard one year to win a Super Bowl. Now it's time to go

I wish Al Davis is held to the same standard he imposes on his HC; he'd fire himself long time ago.

The Raiders will rise from the grave, just like Al Davis did.

Arizona, on a big stage, is the best team in the league.

I think they could easily walk home with the trophy this year.

The Packers are one of the best teams in the playoffs.

Agreed. You mentioned a few days ago that the Cardinals need to be more consistent in the regular season for Whisenhunt to be held in higher standard, but frankly, I think he likes it this way. They win when it matters. They don't push theirselves too hard in the regular season, fly into the play-offs under the radar, keep their players healthy and well rested, and then dominate. Its a good strategy from Whis. Most analysts went into the play-offs calling the Packers the best team in the NFC. The second best defense in the NFL, and Whisenhunt's offense dominated them. If they could get their defense together they would be the premiere NFC franchise. And three years ago this was a team who had one winning season since moving to Arizona. Its really impressive what he's done in Arizona and why IMO, Whisenhunt is the best in the game right now, aside from Fisher and Bellichik.

All Whis needs to do is get a good defensive mind running his defense. I maintain the Cardinals should jump into the bidding war for Romeo Crennel.

The Cards/Packer game has to be the best one this year so far

Good. Heres hoping for a Colts/Cowboys Superbowl.

You had that already, it was called "Super Bowl V" now go away ;)

NFL overtime still sucks major ass.

College does it right. As do MLB, NBA and NHL.

yeah they do OT right but the fact that the way they decide an overall champion is completely screwed sort of negates that one for you.

I agree that the coin toss hasn't decided nearly as many games as in previous years, but every team has a weakness, and if that weakness is in their defense, it's unfair that they are annihilated on one drive. The offense gets plenty of chances during the game, but then can be potentially rendered to the sidelines for overtime without a chance to get on the field. I know that plenty of defenses have stepped up in overtime, but I don't think overtime should IMMEDIATELY go to sudden death.

I'm not sure if Leach's system could work on the pro level. It might benefit a guy like Heyward-Bey, but it's going to take years for Leach to get the players he needs and I'm not sure Davis is that patient.

I definitely want Arizona to get another shot at the ring & I really don't care for the other games

I doubted them this year and I am definitely being proven wrong. Everyone writes them off quickly at the end of the regular season, but then Whis and the Cards turn it into overdrive in the playoffs and are terrifying for any team they face. They have the talent for an elite defense, but I agree that a new DC might be what they need. The game in New Orleans is either going to be a massive beatdown by the Cardinals, or the most exciting, high flying game we've EVER seen.

or, ya know, the Saints could absolutely demolish them...

If the offense is completely healthy and in sync like they were during the New England Monday night game, then this could be the most epic display of offense ever seen between two teams that would have to come down to one star defensive player making a big play to tip the game into their team's favor, but if the team that played Dallas shows up, then Arizona will crush them.

I think that IF the Saints are at full power ala that Monday night against New England, I think that they WILL win and possibly dominate the Cardinals, albeit in a high flying display on both sides.

Cleveland vs. Detroit

But I may be biased :cwink:

Leach was able to turn 3rd rate QB talent and 2nd rate athletes into gigantic number success as soon as he got to Texas Tech.

As far as Leach's system not working on the Pro Level - his offense is basically the same schemes the Patriots have used in their recently conversion to a more spread offense.

or, ya know, the Saints could absolutely demolish them...

Won't happen. The Cardinals are a bad matchup for the Saints.

The way I look at the playoffs is, once you are in them.....the regular season flies out the window, and no longer exists. It's a toss up with all of these games.

Which is why I think Leach would be fantastic for Heyward-Bey and a guy like Frye, Gradkowski, and maybe even Russel. My only concern is that the Patriots conversion to a spread offense hasn't resulted in a Super Bowl since 04. Granted, Al Davis would have a heart attack if he had a season anywhere close to the Patriots in 07, but Davis only wants Super Bowls.

My other concern is that it took Leach 9 years to get a share of the Big 12 South.

I hate that I missed that Cards game. I only had time to watch one and I watched the patriots what a let down. I can tell you it's the only game I can remember where Tom Brady not only didn't give his team a chance to win but helped them to an epic FAIL!

Revis may have shut down crappy ass ochocinco but he aint goin to stop Vincent Jackson

Yeah no. Revis is the best defensive player in the league this season, imo. Noone played at a higher level.

Randy Moss is probably one of the most talented players in the NFL. When things are going great, he does amazing things. When things aren't going great, he gives up.

I dont understand why folks are saying Moss gave up this season. Really dont. Its like if he doesnt have 15,000 yards or 20 touchdowns, he gets crucified.

Player Team Receptions Yards TD INT
Andre Johnson Houston Texans 2 24 0 0
Randy Moss New England Patriots 3 21 0 1
Justin Gage Tennessee Titans 3 28 0 0
Marques Colston New Orleans Saints 0 0 0 0
Ted Ginn Miami Dolphins 2 57 1 0
Terrell Owens Buffalo Bills 1 11 0 0
Louis Murphy Oakland Raiders 1 6 0 1
Ted Ginn Miami Dolphins 0 0 0 0
Mike Sims-Walker Jacksonville Jaguars 0 0 0 0
Randy Moss New England Patriots 4 29 1 0
Steve Smith Carolina Panthers 1 5 0 2
Terrell Owens Buffalo Bills 3 31 0 1
Antonio Bryant Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2 22 0 1
Roddy White Atlanta Falcons 2 16 0 0
Reggie Wayne (removed during third quarter) Indianapolis Colts 3 33 0 0
Chad Ochocinco Cincinnati Bengals 0 0 0 0
Chad Ochocinco (Wildcard Playoff Game) Cincinnati Bengals 2 28 0 1

Sorry for the format. Bottom line, Revis is a beast and one of,if not, the best CB in football.

Randy scored on Revis. Right infront of him.

Food for thought

As one league source said via e-mail, "It should have been a personal foul grabbing the face mask and 15-yard penalty and a first down for Green Bay."

each team should get 1 possession...that would be right....the NBA has overtime periods, the NHL (during the regular season) has one OT period and then it goes to a shootout...MLB has extra innings (each team gets an at bat)

Meh... I mean the game ended on a defensive play. What more do you want? Cardinals didn't even need the possession. An extra period is fine, but if its a five minute period then a team will milk it to 30 seconds. 10 minutes and the game is too long. Something in between (7-8 minutes), maybe team with the first possesion gets one less time out or something.

People are going to be calling that "The Facemask" for years..and Green Bay fans will be whining about it for years.

Yesterday's game hasn't been the first example of him laying down.

I know you have a "crush" on him Excel and I'm not denying his talent but yesterday from what I was watching if you told me he wasn't there, I'd believe you.

I guess, the whole, hey maybe if our defense could have stopped like 1 - 3 of their scoring drives, we wouldn't have lost the game.
