Panthers have a rough schedule. :csad: I wouldn't be surprised to see Atlanta win it this year.

I haven't looked at their home and away but its really only that Arizona game that makes a difference between their schedule and the rest of the division. I think all four teams will be in the mix.

The Panthers are just behind the Dolphins with Strength of Schedule. Falcons and Bucs aren't too far behind. Carolina usually has their one good season, then they go back to being mediocre. I think the key for them is start off good like they did last season and build some momentum.

One report I saw figures Atlanta to have the 4th toughest schedule.

Yeah, the Falcons have the 4th toughest schedule. The Steelers are ranked 29th.

I saw that too. Who did they buy off?

It goes both ways... sometimes you play two ****ty ass divisions... like last year when the Falcons played the NFC North and AFC West... sometimes you play two really good divisions, like when the Steelers had to play the AFC South and NFC East last year.

If you think about it... the teams that are consistently in the mix... like the Indy's, Pitts, NE, etc... aside from being good... they are all teams that have dominated their division. It's common sense more or less, but it is telling about the format in general. If you aren't consistent in the division... you aren't making the playoffs two years straight... or 3 out of four years.

Pretty boring schedule, on paper.

Nothing really grabs me.

Jones-Drew to sign contract extension with Jags
Posted: News | Steve Wyche | Tags: Jacksonville Jaguars, Maurice Jones-Drew

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has agreed to a four-year contract extension. Financial terms are not yet known but an announcement of the deal is expected this afternoon. The Jaguars released veteran tailback Fred Taylor after the 2008 season, making Jones-Drew the featured back.

Jones-Drew, who just completed his third NFL season, scored a team-best 12 rushing touchdowns in 2008, when he rushed for 824 yards on a career-high 197 carries. Jones is the Jaguars’ main scoring threat, having scored 34 touchdowns in 47 career games.

3 Key Moments
Derrick Ward has waited five seasons for the opportunity to be a featured back, something he had limited opportunities do behind Brandon Jacobs with the Giants. In Week 3, Ward will have his first opportunity to face his former team when the Bucs host the Giants.

The Bucs won their first six games at home last year, but that advantage looks to be diminished some this season. One of their home games will come against the Patriots at London's Wembley Stadium in Week 7.

New coach Raheem Morris will emphasize finishing strong after an 0-4 close to the season derailed Tampa Bay's playoff hopes last year. A regular-season finale at home against the Falcons could have playoff implications.

Pro Bowl WR Anquan Boldin has been asking for a trade since last summer, but most NFL experts believed there was no way the Cardinals would ever deal him. However, Cardinals general manager Rod Graves and coach Ken Whisenhunt told Darren Urban on the team’s official Web site that Arizona will listen to trade offers for Boldin:

“Before the draft, you know there is going to talk about Anquan and his situation and a trade,” Whisenhunt said. “Since not a whole lot has changed with his contractual situation, we know that will come back up.
“It would be foolish from our standpoint not to listen to those opportunities and see what actually exists. But I want to make the point … our goal is to re-sign him to a long-term deal. That hasn’t changed.”
Said general manager Rod Graves, “We just think it is prudent for us to evaluate all our options.”
The Cardinals have already talked some with other teams, although Graves declined to say which ones.
Urban reports that the Cardinals would seek a package similar to the one the Lions received from the Cowboys for WR Roy Williams — a first-, a third- and a sixth-round draft pick. But the Cardinals are dealing from a position of strength because Boldin still has two years left on his contract, so there’s no rush to get a deal done.

Teams rumored to be in the market for a wide receiver include the Giants, Eagles and Bears. However, the Cardinals might be reluctant to trade Boldin to another NFC team.

Would love for Boldin to be on the Giants.

Perhaps it was simply of function of falling asleep on the couch after consuming far too much of the Pizza Hut Panormous, but I could have sworn at some point, last night/this morning, that I heard John Clayton say that Boldin was a good bet to go the Dolphins.

Also, while trying to catch up on this morning's headlines (by slacking off work), I just saw the ESPN Ticker read the following: NFL broadcaster and Hall of Fame coach John Madden retires.

I suppose without the possibility of covering our Lord and Savior, Brett Favre, the game just doesn't hold the same allure. I guess it's like going back to eating steaks plain after you've discovered steak sauce.

Of course, Brett Favre, on his best day, was never anywhere as good as A-1 Steak Sauce.

how does Millen have any credibility to be a studio analyst? Who takes him seriously? He's got the worst record of any GM in the modern era of the NFL.

Millen used to be a pretty good analyst, one of my favorites, before he ...well, you know. I could still value his opinion on what's transpiring on field or breaking down a matchup, but if he mentions anything about building a team, I'm changing the channel or using the mute button.

Doesn't stop Steve Phillips from being a baseball analyst. Those who can't do teach?

In other news, Frank Caliendo's career is over.

Well, he's still got his Ted Knight impression to rely on. That's relevant, right?

I'm going to miss Madden, he was always a good laugh. Hopefully Will Arnett's clone will be just as entertaining.

Cris Collinsworth is a idiot at times. He's often too over critical of NFL teams.

Why not give Pat Hayden a shot? He's got to have something else to do for NBC besides Notre Dame Football. If I remember back in the day, he was pretty good covering the NFL on TNT.
