"We have had Brees for six years. How many super bowls? One. When did it come? When we had our best defense. If we give Brees whatever he wants, how can we afford to fix the holes on defense? The contract he wants will leave us in cap hell for the next 3-5 years. We will be the 2007-2008 Saints. Everyone is on the "pay him whatever" bandwagon but no one is looking at the cap implications it will bring. Is it worth having Brees if we can't have the team around him to get us back to the big game? You are fooling yourself if you think Brees alone will get us back.
And another thing, we are going to be losing quite a few major draft picks due to this bounty fiasco. We are going to have to rely on Free Agency to fill our holes. How can we do that with the contract he wants?"
I love Drew...but nowhere near as much as I love the team. I'd rather see him walk than have him just to see us with a sub .500 record while he is with us. It's not worth it if we can't afford to continue building and fixing the team. And we all know this team needs defensive help.

I'd love to see the Bears pair Mario Williams up with Julius Peppers. That's a lot of DE money, though.
Brees is looking for a lot of coin and lot of years for a 33 year old.
New Orleans should just trade for Matt Moore. He's the answer I tells ya.
I think it's funny how people are arguing that Brees doesn't worth the money he's asking. Um, isn't the market the one that is supposed to set the value for the player? If Brees doesn't worth what he's asking, then why not let him go and see if the other 31 teams would pay his asking price? I have a strong feeling that more than one team will be willing to do just that.
Not in the NFL, no.
It's a good investment because it allows you to save money at CB.
