Articles like this one are why I hate the sports media. Jeez, guys like Newton, Kaepernick and Wilson have had one good season (Kaepernick, not even a full one). Why not wait a year, give defensive coordinators some time to study them, plan for them, etc before declaring them to be the new batch of MVP candidates? Remember about 5 years ago when Chad Pennington was the new Kurt Warner and the Wildcat was going to change the NFL and lead the Miami Dolphins to a dynasty that unseats the Patriots as kings of the AFC and brings home countless rings? How did that work out?
Frankly, I'm just not sold on rushing quarterbacks transforming the NFL into a more college-like league yet. I want to give DCs a couple years to figure these guys out before I sign off on that. I personally think the injury potential and speed of NFL defenders just gives the model too much downside and once NFL DCs adapt to it, teams like Carolina, Seattle, San Fran and Washington are going to learn that the hard way (Washington already has, which is why RG3 said yesterday that he is looking to transform his play into a more traditional quarterback style).

It's not just about stopping the scrambling. It is about what the system produces...injuries to the most valuable player on the team. Who'd you cite? Warren Moon? He was injured his fair share of times. So was Donovan Mcnabb, Michael Vick, Ben Roethlisberher and just about any other scrambling qb. And the team falls apart without the QB and even once he is back, he isn't the same. That is what the pistol produces. Factor in defensive adaptation, and it just doesn't have long term viability.
