They could still fudge the numbers for the actuals.

but a 2 million bump would be suspicious.

Abram's whole "keeping everything under wraps" plan backfired this time.
After seeing the film (which I loved), that was a totally unnecessary marketing tactic.

Yup, IM3 is the fifth highest.
Maybe DC will start to get serious about 3D surcharges now.

Hangover II - full me once, shame on you.
Hangover III - full me twice, shame on me.

It dropped profits by more than half of its predecessor. I think that should be clear that we are done with the Hangover. Pass the aspirin and redbull.

Abrams needs to start realizing he doesn't need to do that for every movie.

This. I don't think we'll have to worry about a similar problem with Star Wars Episode VII since Kathleen Kennedy and Disney are calling the shots with that film. Not to say that won't have its share of secrecy, but I'm pretty sure the marketing campaign will focus on the return of Luke, Han and Leia as well as the villain in the new franchise.

Disney's known for great and direct marketing.

Yeah, The Hangover is done as a franchise. That said, there's not a lot of comedy competition and while people aren't obviously in a rush to see it, I can see it getting a decent multiplier simply due to it not competing for the action blockbuster crowd. I'm not expecting much out of The Internship or This is the End, for instance.

But, still, WB has to be disappointed. And it's more because they cashed in on the second one instead of nuturing the franchise along.

It's because the second wasn't well received by people.

Furious 6
Domestic: $120,019,000 37.9%
+ Foreign: $197,000,000 62.1%
= Worldwide: $317,019,000

How much did it cost to make?

FF6 killed it. Hangover died.

That's the weekend wrap up.

$160M. FF6 is on pace for $750-800M WW. Who would've thought this series would reach bona fide blockbluster status. :woot:

I thought it was dead in the water after the third film.

Man, the embarrassment if MOS makes less than Fast 6.

There'd be absolutely nothing with that. Now if Fast 6 only makes like 400 million, that'd be bad but its on its way to make close 800 million, there'd be nothing wrong with that at all

They brought back the original cast of the first film. It obviously reignited the series and the general audience were obviously more familiar with them. Plus the addition of a well-known action star helped.

I hope FOX does the same thing with the X-Men series now they finally bought back the original cast of the X-Men film series.

I understand what happened. I just in no way actually thought it would.

Not really. Box office is all about pragmatism. These things shouldn't be a factor when considering box office. Like other have said, it's a proven and successful brand that's been around in the modern movie going consciousness more so than Superman has, who has a lot to prove with his film. Fast and Furious 6 didn't need to prove a single thing. If it proved anything, it was that it's still going strong.

Fast and Furious last had a popular movie in 2011. Superman last had one in 1980. That's a big difference.

man of steel is fine it will do 600 to 700 mill ww easy

Perhaps, but you can sense that WB has alot riding on MOS, not just with a huge budget and various marketing tie-ins, but also the way they're pushing this movie. I think if it makes less than a movie like FF6, it certainly won't help with its high expectation.

Yeah but if Fast 6 makes 800 million than they shouldn't care if they come in second to it by making 750 million. That's a lot of money, they won't care who is in front of them. Fast 6 was coming off of a ridiculously successful. Man of Steel is coming off of nothing.

No it wouldn't. Baby steps. Fast Six is coming off Fast Five. Man of Steel is coming off Superman Returns as the last movie and this will be the third different guy playing Superman in 3 movies. It takes time reestablish a franchise successfully,
