2016 Presidential Third Party Discussion Thread.

I'd like to see a party rise up around the idea of a new constitutional amendment that would ban private money from politics and set really strict election rules concerning length of campaigns, time spent fundraising, media time,2 party duopoly etc.
Until we get a grip on that nothing else matters. As long as they are allowed to campaign and fundraise in perpetuity and have free media offered to favored candidates of the networks we will never get anything done that will benefit the working class. Equal media time, instant runoff voting, public funding, limited campaign seasons are in everyone's interest. Well except the puppets and their masters.

Gary Johnson lands another media shocker. He will be on THE VIEW on ABC this Thursday at 11am.

Thats over 2 million viewers, maybe even 3 million who watch it daily.

Probably won't give him enough exposure, though. I'll be happy if it does, but it's hard to remain hopeful in an age where the media prefers to focus on the trainwrecks.

True.

But campaign is spending $3.8M on tv ads this week in various states.

http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/sep/4/gary-johnson-ads-push-libertarian-in-debates/

Gary raised over $5M in online donations alone in August. His August FEC filing which hits on Sept21st, should bring his overall total raised from nearly $3M to over $8M.

Oh this...oh oh..it is about TIME. Was gonna listen to some what culture videos on youtube as I sleep on phone...What Culture is a big thing on there. Over 500K subs.

A Gary Johnson sponsored ad plays before video!!!! Its a one min edit of his most popular Facebook video. Seems like a tv ad at that.

Breaking: Mitt Romney tweets that he hopes former GOP Governors Gary Johnson and Bill Weld make the debate stages.

Sounds like he is close to endorsing them??

In the new election and state polls today...Gary Johnson is strong.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/president/

Johnson polling 5-14% in New Jersey, Conn, Rhode Island, Mass, Vermont, Maine, Maine CD2, and NH.

In general election polls he is at 11% in a GWU/Battleground and 7% in a Economist/YouGov GE poll.

Stein best polling is at 7% in Vermont.

Washington Post-Survey Monkey did a huge 50 state poll from 8/9 to 9/1 with over 74,000 online registered voters. Gary Johnson polls well with I believe 42 states at 10%+ and 15 at 15%+. He is at 25% in NM and 23% in UT.

Evan McMullin is now on 9 state ballots. He got on South Carolina today.

And he may have a fake placeholder name for VP on 8 of his 9 state ballots.

Also Jill Stein is going to be arrested for trespassing and mischief.

Libertarian Gary Johnson not likely to appear in televised presidential debates

This election cycle may have the highest interest nationwide in third party candidates since Ross Perot's 1992 campaign.

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson is currently the strongest alternative candidate, but at this point he still won't appear in any of the presidential debates announced Friday. Those were all organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates, a non-profit corporation run by a mix of Republicans and Democrats that has run every televised presidential debate since 1988.

His exclusion is because of a rule the commission adopted in 2000 requiring candidates to average at least 15 percent support across five national polls in order to participate in their nationally televised debates. The latest information from RealClearPolitics, a Chicago-based political news and polling data aggregator, shows Johnson averaging 8.2 percent across nine national polls.

Going to be quite the spoiler if that happens. Still not entirely sure on the rationale behind who he would split the vote.

She wears that "modern hippie" badge boldly.

Not sure how well Johnson would do even if he did make the debates.

As a supporter and volunteer, rather not see this cause know it is bad. However, Clinton and Trump didnt know what the C word meant in those papers or emails. So gona assume it was a gotcha question and brain fart.

The second video has him being asked "if it was a gotcha thing". It didn't help things.

Official statement

Statement from Gary Johnson:

This morning, I began my day by setting aside any doubt that I’m human. Yes, I understand the dynamics of the Syrian conflict -- I talk about them every day. But hit with “What about Aleppo?”, I immediately was thinking about an acronym, not the Syrian conflict. I blanked. It happens, and it will happen again during the course of this campaign.

Can I name every city in Syria? No. Should I have identified Aleppo? Yes. Do I understand its significance? Yes.

As Governor, there were many things I didn’t know off the top of my head. But I succeeded by surrounding myself with the right people, getting to the bottom of important issues, and making principled decisions. It worked. That is what a President must do.

That would begin, clearly, with daily security briefings that, to me, will be fundamental to the job of being President.

Gary Johnson is basically a less annoying version of Rand Paul. He doesn't bring a lot of new ideas to the table. The only thing he has going for him is that Clinton and Trump are so divisive. A fact that doesnt make his policy stances any better.

He literally was just asked what his position on Aleppo was. "Many things I don't know off the top of my head"? Really?

Yes. He has owned up to it. Put out a statement.

The NY TIMES blasted him...and in process they had to do two corrections. Cause they didn't know either!

He admitted and was honest. Makes him human. He could had lied and dug a deeper hole. He didnt.

How do you piss off Gary Johnson? Say illegal immigrants!

Gotta give Johnson credit for at least owning his Rick Perry moment.

Still though. He couldn't have feigned knowledge and been like "what about Aleppo?"

Ironically, this might actually help him. For the first time he's gone viral.

Johnson does not need to be anywhere near those debates. He is no where near ready in the area of Foreign Policy....he was given a great chance to show his stuff, and he choked.
Yes he owned his Rick Perry moment, but it doesn't make him any more knowledgeable than Rick Perry.

He's gone viral or trended on Facebook before. He has many campaign ads on Facebook with million of views. His most viewed ad in Facebook is over 17 million views. He has another about about 10 million. Ironically, these same ads are under a million or even under 500K on Youtube.

I'm not real sure what he hopes to accomplish by being in the debates.

His interviews with national news outlets have not been strong AT ALL, and I'm not just talking about this last one.

Most of the interviews make him out to be a one shot candidate riding on legalization of marijuana.

I'm fine with him getting into the debates, but honestly I think he would harm later 3rd party candidates if he is anything like he has been in these TV interviews.

Being in the debates...is a game changer. Can't win without bein in them.

Talk about the fair tax. Talk about the boarder. Marriage equality. Abortion. Second amendment. How to create jobs. Which is get govt out of the way. Govt doesnt create jobs. The free market does. Many things he has taked about.

Donald Trump...how is he qualified to be President? How is Hillary? Both lie. Both have high unfavorable ratings.

You talk about what they ask you....

All lie....Johnson is not a saint.

If I have to wait for someone who hasn't lied, hasn't taken money from big business, has all of the qualifications, and meets all standards....I will die before I vote again.

IMO, as far as being ready on the first day...Hillary, even though my hope was someone else. From the group we have, and since Jill Stein has a warrant out for her arrest LOL (I agree with her environmental stance, which is a big thing for me)....well, then I will probably vote for who I think will be ready on day one....and it isn't Johnson, and no debate is going to change that....his interviews have been terrible, and he looks like a "deer in the headlights" in most of them. That doesn't give me a since of peace at all.
