I don't think there is any question this will be the best year for CBMs ever, even if by some miracle, Thor: Ragnarok and JL are complete bombs. Logan, Lego Batman, Wonder Woman, GOTG2 and SM:H...these movies were absolutely amazing. Whether you think they were the best movies ever, it's hard to argue they were "bad CBMs" on the level of the stuff we used to get.

The only year I think that could compare is actually last year, 2016, with Deadpool, Dr. Strange, Suicide Squad, XM:A, BvS, and CA:CW. But for obvious reasons, 2017 gets the edge.

I think it has absolutely been the best year. Previously 2012 and 2014 were my favorites, but if Thor Ragnarok delivers like we think it will, and Justice League is at least better than BvS, then I think 2017 takes the new crown in my eyes.

Certainly looks that way, although I'll reserve final judgment until the year is over.

Best year for movies (period)

Right now, 2016 has the edge. This year is similar in terms of overall quality across the CBM board, but it doesn't have that rare film (yet, at least) that rises above just being successful and becomes a true landmark of the genre like Captain America: Civil War did. Maybe JL or Thor will change that.

^ You're underestimating the impact Logan has had on critics and audiences. I wasn't blown away by it but I can still see that Logan had a great impact.

It was very successful, but it wasn't the BO juggernaut that CA:CW was. It was a dark story (those don't appeal to everyone) with a generic villain, although that was overshadowed by the crescendo of a magnificent actor playing an iconic character. CW was the rare concoction that fired on all cylinders and appealed to everyone.

If Ragnarok delivers like the trailers promise it will be the best year for me as I will then say that this year has had 3 great superhero movies.

I don't think Box Office = success.

Nor was CW a movie that fired on all cylinders and appealed to everyone.

I'd say Spider-man has done a better job on that front than CW.

To say six out of seven (counting LEGO Batman) mainstream superhero comic book movies are great, it will be strong.

Most remarkably consistent? Yes.

Best? No.

Same.

Best would be 2014 for me. Winter Soldier and Guardians were great. Days of Future Past is one of my all time favourites. Yeah.. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was awful, but the meltdown surrounding it was pure entertainment.

IF Thor Ragnarok and Justice League end up being really good, then I would crown this year as the best ever for CBMs. The output so far has been fantastic. Oh, and I suppose if Kingsman 2 is also good then that helps the cause. Are there any other CBMs this year that I'm forgetting about?

Agreed. Most of the movies have been good but they have not been great, with the exception of Logan. I also hated LEGO Batman.

2014 is the best so far IMO, but we ain't done yet!

2014 was a terrible year for comic books movies. Not a single DC movie in 2014. 2016 and 2017 are much better.

Ah, thanks. I didn't know that Atomic Blonde was basic on a comic book. Can't wait to see it; it looks f***ing awesome.

Atomic Blonde was based on the 2012 graphic novel The Coldest City, so Atomic Blonde counts as a comic book movie.

It's looking more and more like it.
We have had a great year so far. And we still haven't seen Kingsman 2, Thor Ragnarok and Justice League.

Profit is the ultimate measuring stick for a film's success. In the scenario of Avengers vs. Avengers, CA:CW proved just how much pull the MCU still had with viewers. SM:H was successful, but it won't even top Wonder Woman, let alone Civil War.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one. I've seen worse films (although not many), but that's the first time that I've bought a ticket and wished that I could have left the theater after 10 minutes of viewing. :barf:

That's a fair point. This year could surpass 2016 if both the MCU and DCEU end the year on high notes.

That's how I see it too, although that might contribute to it being the best if the last couple of films deliver too.

I feel like the sole purpose of that movie was for Batman fans to pat themselves on the back for getting the jokes, even though they weren't particularly good or clever.

Yeah FOX should have forced James Mangold to make Logan in 3D, pg 13 and be full of quips. 99 percent Rotten tomatoes, and 1 billion guaranteed.:o

It's shaping up to be my favorite. Ragnarok is just a bonus at this point. Justice League... it is what it is.

For me, a good one, even a great, JL is the cherry on top of all for me, but 2008 and 2013 were the best, ultimately it's 1978 for me.
