’24′ Eyes Return As Limited Series On Fox, Howard Gordon To EP, Kiefer Sutherland In Talks To Star
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

The clock may start ticking again on Fox. I’ve learned that the network is looking to bring back its signature real-time drama 24 as a limited series. Kiefer Sutherland is in talks to reprise his Emmy-winning role as Agent Jack Bauer. No deals are in place, but Fox is eying 24 as part of its recent push in limited event series. Since 24 ended its eight-season run on Fox in 2010, there have been efforts to continue the story as a feature, which ultimately didn’t take off. I hear the idea to do another 24 chapter on TV came from longtime 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, now executive producer on Showtime’s Homeland. I hear he pitched the plan, which would start from scratch with a new story arc, to 24 producers 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV as well as Fox, which all jumped on board. Gordon will likely executive produce through his 20th TV-based company Teakwood Lane. In addition to Homeland, Gordon executive produces the newly picked up TNT series Legends and high-profile FX pilot Tyrant, which is being directed by Ang Lee.

Limited series huh? Name change to 12 maybe?

Well its better than a reboot with a new cast and having Gordon involved is not the worst thing. The later seasons under his watch weren't great but maybe he has something new and just focusing on 10 episodes may be best, no more filler episodes focusing on some silly character.

They did 24: Redemption which was just two hours of real time, this could be 10-13 of real time.

Yes! Please happen!

I guess anything for Kiefer to wash away the bad taste of the mediocre follow-up that was Touch... :o

I like it. Count me in if they ever bring it back. As long as they keep the backstory from the previous seasons, then I'm fine. Also do it as a 12-episode season with each episode representing 2 hours and it'd be able to sustain it's most dramatic moments without having to include a whole bunch of filler.

**** limited I want it back full time

Well I may have to watch something on Fox that Isn't simpsons again.

Since the film Is pretty much dead they realize the 24 franchise Is still a opotion.Just do better than end of 8th season.

Season 5 one of best seasons was under Howard Gordon's watch.I also enjoyed season 7

I just hope it's a follow up to 24's conclusion.

Surnow was still an EP and writer through Season 6 and into the first 7 episodes of Season 7 so Gordon isn't entirely responsible for Season 5.

That's what I hope but I'm a little troubled by the Deadline story that said they would start from scratch with a new story arc. Almost sounds like they're just keeping the character names but w/o the history of the previous 8 seasons.

The original producers stepped back a lot after season 4.Gordon was called showrunner
since start of season 5.

Talk about timing. Last night on Psych, Shawn joked about Jack never having to use the bathroom. lol

I'm a huge 24 fan, Jack Bauer is my favourite TV character ever, but I need to hear more about the approach they are taking before I get excited, I don't want them to ignore where Jack was at when season 8 ended.

That's what I hope doesn't happen. It doesn't make sense to do a reboot but continue using some of the same actors. The way the show ended Season 8 left a pretty open-ended way to continue the series in some planned feature films. With those feature films being a no-go, I don't see why they can't work from there instead of starting completely over.

I doubt that the continuity would just be ignored. That wasn't the plan for the movie, after all. My guess is, there would be an emergency that requires Jack to come out of retirement in exchange for a pardon.

I'm hoping you're both right, I think a mini series about Jack getting the US and Russians off his back through some mission would be the ideal route to take.

I'm excited. Big Bauer fan here.

A movie is an event, but 12 episodes is 12 episodes. Please let it happen.

And who knows, they've said it's just a limited thing, but if it rates well...

In on this. Hopefully this revives a next-gen 24 game. I've been wanting to play as Jack Bauer in a good 3rd person shooter forever. (I played the one on PS2)

I don't know why everyone is assuming 12 episodes. The article indicates that the plan is 24. I think it would just be a one season deal and that is what they mean by "limited return."

Part of me wonders if Arrested Development will affect Fox's decision. It could show that fans are willing to come back to a show after it has been gone. It could also incline Fox to go the route of a digital release by partnering with either Netflix or Amazon (which I think would be more ideal than a one season return to TV).

Comingsoon.Net have it as a miniseries.

But that doesn't say anything about twelve episodes.

To be honest, I would be shocked if it weren't a full 24 episode season. I think the mini-series simply means it will only run once, there is no plan to bring it back full time.

I much rather prefer this than a 24 movie
