I actually think, if anything, it's kind of stolen the "Fun" thunder from TASM2 for me, whilst still being able to be emotionally moving.
It's a really difficult balance to achieve without seeming forced, but it all seems to flow naturally, the powerful, emotionally resonant moments of the film feel natural, the tone remains consistent, being able to take itself seriously in this fun tone is really unique.
If I compared it to TASM2 more, TASM2 jumped from tone to tone, and the smooth way in which GoTG managed to incorporate multiple themes in the film without changing the tone too suddenly is really a testement to the film itself. It really is such a cohesive story.
To put it simply, I'm probably one of the biggest supporters of Sony out there, and GoTG helped me sympathise with the people who wanted the spider-man rights to head back over the fence to Marvel.
I shouldn't talk about Spider-Man too much, but really, GoTG managed to take the best aspects out of all the CBMS this year and combine them together without feeling forced. Just great stuff.
