I doubt I'll live to see a day where there's a better overall trilogy than the Lord of The Rings trilogy. It's just so complete, there's always that one movie that ruins it, this trilogy has no weak link.
 
Also the score to Lord of the Rings is WAYY better than Star Wars. If you listen to all of the music of John Williams, you realise that it all sounds like it could be in the same movie universe. His music is wonderful no doubt, but in no way does it compare to the mastery of Howard Shore's compositions for Lord of the Rings. When you listen to Lord of the Rings you feel like you are actually in Middle Earth. The music can be powerful, scary, touching, sad, and adventurous. Also, the music that Howard Shore works much better in the film and it is expressed perfectly at the perfect moments. Star Wars has unnoticable music that just sounds like you're everyday movie themes (except for the opening titles of course and some of the jedi fight scenes)

yes, each film is in fact so good that it is impossible to decide which is the best. There is no favorite. People never refer to just ONE Lord of the Rings film, they always refer to the entire trilogy because it is THAT good. It's one long AMAZING and EPIC movie. People usually refer to The Empire Strikes Back as the best of the star wars trilogy.
 
I'm sorry guys im just bored and i just finished watching Star Wars and i just wanted to have a little debate
 
I prefer Star Wars because I have much more of an attachment to it. It was one of the first movies I saw in theaters, one of the first movies I watched with my uncle, I saw Phantom Menace with him when it came out, and it was the first fandom I legitimately became a part of. And it doesn't require prior knowledge to the series to know everything that's going on. I don't hate LotR, it's a fantasy series and I love fantasy, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
 
Lord of the Rings isn't everyone's cup of tea. People refer to it as a fun fantasy adventure film when it is not simply that, it is much more. Lord of the Rings is about as sophisticated as it gets when it comes to fantasy. If you look up "greatest films of all time" right now I am pretty sure that you will always find Lord of the Rings on each list. Now that's what I'm TOLKIEN about.
 
As JOE said, there's simply nothing that can compare to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is the best trilogy out there. Each film feels like it's just as good as the other, and each film is one of the greatest of all time.
 
I've actually just gotten into Tolkein. I've never really cared for any of his work but I read the hobbit a few weeks back when I was bored and it totally opened my eyes to the epicness of middle earth. Currently reading LotR and then silmarillion after that.

Honestly though, and this may change once I finish LotR, but I can't really compare that and Star Wars. They just kinda fit different tastes and different moods.

OMG yes you should read them all. I've read EVERY single book out there, im like the biggest Tolkien fan that you will ever meet.
I just felt like comparing Lord of the Rings and Star Wars based on the movies both being loved trilogies.

Yeah, me too.

Don't get me wrong - LOTR is a brilliant trilogy. Deserving of every award, praise, etc it gets. But there's something about Star Wars that I just love unconditionally.

I treat LOTR like I treat most great films. I see why they're so loved and praised, but I don't have much of an attachment to the films.

But......do you remember the shire Mr. Miles? It'll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields... and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?
 
Well Star Wars does appeal more to the youth since Lord of the Rings is so sophisticated and wonderfully complex that most young people don't like to think too much about it. or simply they prefer the bang bang shoom action ^_^
