3 Musketeers cast

This movie looks like it's gonna be fun, can't wait. :yay:

The poster could be better, but it's decent enough.

Oh, I saw it alright. It looks fun, but the whole thing with the flying airships is starting to give me really bad flashbacks to "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". And it's staring to scare me....

I think I would be able to get on board with it if they had cast a better actor for D'Artagnan and if they hadn't brought in Bloom to be an evil Baron Munchausen or something.

The other Musketeers are actually well cast, Waltz is always good, and Mikkelson rocks, though his part looks like it's been reduced to give Orlando and Milla more screentime.

Lord, this looks campy. Buckingham makes flying airships, the Cardinal swordfights, and Milday's a matrix-esque assassin.

And this guy was going on about how this was "very much the musketeers from the novel." Seriously...did this guy even read the books?

Paul W.S. Anderson as much an expert on the works of Alexandre Dumas as Michelle Bachman is on American history.

The airships were a bit surprising to say the least. This movies looks ridiculous but it could also be fun.

Seriously. I mean there's enough dramatic, close to the book versions of the 3 Muskateers in cinema, I'm all for a more fun action filled one.

Looks like it could be fun. It certainly looks good visually. There could be sprinkles of goodness in it. But this is Paul W.S. Anderson. So there's bound to be some bad moments. I don't mind the angle of it though.

That's true, but we haven't had a faithful adaptation in a LONG time. I mean, we had the one with Chris O'Donnell and Charlie Sheen back in 1993, but that sucked. Then there was the horrible The Musketeer that came out in 2001, and that was even worse.

We seem to be on a downward slope with this classic story. I guess it is a tough story to adapt faithfully to a modern audience but still...

On the other hand, recent Robin Hood adaptations seem to run into the same problem. Maybe they should just give the classics a rest for a long time.

When was the last book accurate Musketeers film made? The 70's versions. It's been over three decades since we've seen a book accurate musketeers film.

And those films still had lots of fun and humor. I'd love to see a modern Musketeers film that has fun, humor, great action, AND is close to the book. Without adding ridiculous plot devices...like the flying ships from Mario 3.

Fun and book accurate aren't mutually exclusive. I have no problems with changes to source material if it stays in the spirit of the books (Jurassic Park, JAWS, and the Bourne films). But this just looks ridiculous. I'll wait until the release to pass full judgement obviously, but I'm not encouraged.

And honestly, the 93 and the 01 versions weren't faithful to the books at all. Probably not much more faithful then this one will be. It's like I said above, I don't mind changes, but keep to the spirit of the books! The problem I have with most of the additions is that they usually end up being very cliche (Rochefort turning out to be the man that killed D'Artagnan's father, because we just need to add that stereotype to the villain.) Or making the conflict seem even more dangerous. (Now, it's not just the Queen's honor at stake, we're saving all of France! And with this one, WE"RE SAVING THE WORLD!!!)

THis could be fun. I like who they cast as The 3 Musketeers. I like Logan Lerman but from the trailers he doesnt seem that good as D'Artagnan

And yeah I wouldnt have minded one closer to the book even with the tone this one has

i dont understand how matrix style action can be fun in a Muscketeer movie.

there is only one tye of action that you can use in an musketeer movie that will make it fun. Indiana Jones type action. Indiana Jones fun.

This. The musketeers can have over the top and crazy action. I'm fine with that, if it's still somewhat grounded like Indiana Jones. I don't need to see a super realistic fighting style. We got that in the 70's films, and honestly, we probably wont get someone who will do a realistic fighting style better then that.

Over the top action is fine, but it's got to fit the tone. And honestly...do we really need yet another forced bullet-time inclusion? Seriously?

Yep, and by far the best one.

As a fan of the novel I have to strongly disagree. The Disney version alters the plot a great deal, and makes it a different story with the same characters. But some of the characters; especially the villains, are in name only, because the Disney version maked them irrecognizable.

I agree that it should be more of Indiana Jones and less of Matrix... but the trailer makes it look like a cheap rip off of the Pirates movies...

just came back from the theater.. it was a fun movie.
some things were weird like a music cue from the movie collateral which
was played a few times!? and there was another which i heared before...

The ending is also quite funny !? I dont name names but only read this if
you dont care.. [BLACKOUT]basically no one dies from 4 villians except one obvious person ^^
so there is easily stuff for a second one..[/BLACKOUT]

I liked the steampunk tone but sometimes things were a little bit too much
over the top... like (minor spoiler) [BLACKOUT]2 airships "landing" on a cathedral roof and nothing happens ^^[/BLACKOUT]

one other sidenote.. maybe it was the theater but the sound was
awesome in the actionsequences.
And also lots of corset boobs sqeezing .. good times :P

give it a 7/10

edit: the movie has for the most part scenes in bright light
so the dimness from the 3D glasses is acceptable.
for more 3d feedback i'm maybe the wrong guy..
i dont like it in general, there are too many
downsides and the benefits are too small..

This movie is ok in 3D but I would rather see it in 2D.

Just saw this today it was alright. Its a fun Pirates Of The Caribbean style take on the Three Musketeers with some Steampunk stuff thrown in. This was very much a action adventure comedy.

I can see some snooty critics hating this movie but its a perfectly fun movie that doesn't treat its audience like morons like alot of Summer blockbusters do these days.

Milla Jovovich Milady is basically her character Alice from the Resident Evil movies. The three musketeers themselves are solid. Ray Stevenson Porthos is very much like his Volstagg from Thor. Luke Evans is solid as the more quiet of the three Aramis.

Matthew MacFadyen is solid as always as Athos the brains and more leader of the three.

Christoph Waltz Cardinal was suprisingly down played compared to Waltz previous villain performances. He wasn't as fun as Tim Currys 90s Cardinal.

I never brought into Orlando Bloom as a villain to be honest. Buckingham has a larger role than previous movie versions.

James Corden is good as comic relief although I could see some people may find him annoying. Freddie Fox King Louis was actually one of my favourite characters in the film he was a childish, dimwit but rather likable.

Logan Lerman was a ok D'Artagnan his character is naive yet extremely cocky. It seems like Lerman was cast to appeal to American market like if I'm honest. It was funny to see British actor Dexter Fletcher who played D'Artagnan's dad in the movie doing a American accent as well.

Actually, this movie does look a lot like an Indiana Jones film.

Crystal Skull, that is. :cwink:

I hope its like Crystal Skull because I loved that movie. There is only reason I'm seeing this movie and that is the sword fighting. No stunt doubles and real swords. Count me in.

I can't think of anything that is ever adapted faithfully-comics, classic fiction, etc. That might be why I like film-original franchises like Avatar and Star Wars better-they have their influences, but at least they aren't screwing up other peoples stories and characters.
