$400 PS3 with Spider-man 3 BR RUMOR

They should of went all out white with the buttons and analogs.

I like the buttons being black, it looks like Oreo controller... mmm, oreo.... I wish I had the white controller...

Black is the perfect color for the PS3. I wouldnt get it any other way

Wait, is this announced for US?
You mean the white system? Nah, I think its only an Asia thing, at least for now. I dont see Sony bringing it over here, but hey stranger things have happened

It will, calm down!!! At least you can afford one when it comes out.

so I gotta ask, since I can't find this information anywhere: what's the difference between the new 40GB model and the 80 or 60GB? Does this new model and price cut come with the expense of reduced performance in any way? I'm not really knowledgeable in this stuff as you can see...

The difference in the 60 and 80 is really just the hard drive size. The 40gig does not have support for PS2 games and has 2 usb ports rather than 4. It has not yet been announced for the US, but an announcement will most likely come soon.

What was the point of taking away USB ports?

To differenciate it from the 80GB, just like stripping out backwards compatability. It doesn't actually save Sony money, it just makes the 80GB's price tag look more justified.

Oh believe me, stripping the BC has probably saved them a decent amount of money. :o

Not to mention that the GS had to be in this isolated area on the motherboard, removing it will allow them to simplify the fabrication and motherboard size = lower costs on top of just taking the chip out.

thanks for the clarification, KALEL114. I have a fair idea of the purpose of a hard drive, but how will we see the difference between the 80 or 60 GB and the 40GB, in terms of speed, quality, or whatever? and do you guys think two usb ports are enough?

There wont be any differnece in speed or quality between the 3 drives. All there will be is space. I think its a moot point since you can upgrade the harddrive yourself with any 2.5" drive. I think when people decide which system to get, its really the BC that you should worry about. If you want full BC, get the 60gb. If you dont care about it at all, get the 40gb. I dont think the 80gb is worth getting unless you dont have the option of getting the 60gb

As far as USB ports, well the only time I use them is when I need to charge up my controller. I didnt think having 4 was all that necesary. I guess if you plan on using USB accesories like headset, mouse, keyboard, etc... then it will be an issue, but if you arent or have Bluetooth accesories, then the removal of 2 shouldnt be an issue

As far as USB's go, you can always get a USB adapter, if two aren't enough for you. Two is really all you need though. Havok hit right on the head with the hard drive. I changed mine out to a 160gig with no problem. Sony made it so you can upgrade without voiding the warranty, because their cool like that. If you already have a PS2, the 40gig is what you want. NA hasn't been anounced yet though. I expect it to be anounced soon though. Maybe as soon as tommorrow.
