5.09 Lexmas (Spoilers)

Holy s**t, that was an awesome episode. Rosembaum needs a Emmy or something, because that performence was award worthy. I was practically chilled when he said, "There's only one way to guarentine a happily ever after...power."

Take a bow, dude!

well, Lex and Lana arrive at the kents for Christmas EVe and it turns out that in this dream Jonathan is now Senator and has given Lex a Humatarian Award and calls him the greatest man I;ve ever known or something like that . He also refers to Lex like a son. Than Lex goes outside and thanks I think Lilllian for this'life' and says he has never been happier in his life Of coarse she says that this could be the life he ever wants if he makes the right decision. Clark comes outside than and they began to talk about how Lex seems happy with Lana. Of coarse, He ask CLark how did he ever END up with Lana and Clark than hesitants for some reason before answering that question. That' when Martha comes outside to tell Lex that something is wrong with Lana and founds out that she is about to go into labor.

Thank you, Shy. :)
I may have to do something illegal to get this ep later tonight. But a fan's gotta do what a fan's gotta do.

I loved what I saw of this ep. I thought the way they brought Lex to a place where POWER is his driving need was really creative. Lex hasn't always been the most "stable" person emotionally. His near-death experience, combined with his total inability to save AlternateLana took him to the edge, and this time, he chose to jump. He's ignoring everything Alt.Lana said to him, and instead choosing to never be that vulnerable (i.e. "hurt") again. It's not all about Lana, she's just a factor in the equation... it's all about Lex.

It's a sad but inevitable choice for him. I really liked the image of his mother standing next to him looking melancholy at the end.

KK was lovely as usual.. but I thought she did a real knockout job in that death scene. Just the right balance of subtle and sincere.

I actually interpreted it as it was all about Lana and he's going to choose the darker path to keep her from dying prematurely.

But I believe your take is more accurate

This is how I felt about the outcome too, Lex is always out for #1. This is just another example of how Lex wants to make sure he will always be in control of his life and decisions. That is through Power and Wealth, or at least in Lex's view it is.

I KNEW IT. The son called Clark "Uncle Clark"

Hehe pretty funny seeing Clark Super Speed house to house

Yes, you did call that one.

And I loved that scene when he was super speeding around the city.

I think it was a mixture of Lex wanting to be in control of his life and secure his happiness, as well as trying to prevent Lana from ever dying. I mean he woke up screaming Lana's name so it's pretty obvious some part of him is doing it to save her life, because as he said, he really does love her. But you're right, some of it is for selfish reasons.

 But he doesn't *really* need to save her life. That was just the alternate scenario, not real life. The importance of the "dream" sequence, wasn't in the specific details, but of the overall impact it had on Lex. His frustration at his inability to save Lana deeply wounded him and left Lex a man who craves Power over everything.

Exactly, Lex wants to make sure he is never in a situation like that, where he is powerless to do something. Lex always wants the power to do what he wants, thus is part of his conflict with Superman. Here is a man with more power than him, and Lex can't have that. If he can't control that power, he wants to destroy it. Think of the way Lex acted in "Onyx".

Son of a biotch, this was a good episode. WOW.
I had expected one of the biggest throw away eps of the year, and this (for me) is right up there with the best if not THE best.

MR just hit one out of the park. It's too bad you can't hand out emmy's off one performance. But if they had more Lex-centric eps like this it would be damn hard to ignore him for best supporting role (at least a nom).

Isn't there sort of a Lex/Anakin Skywalker parallel? Turning to the dark side because of the vision of your loved one dying right around childbirth

I usually have to really sort out Lex episodes because (and I know this is bad) I;m not apt to pay close attention like i normally do. It was very well done and in the end it was more about Lex's reaction to what he saw, not so much the details, that pushed him there. I thought Lillian was a representation of that small part of Lex that was still her son, who still wanted to be good. He effectively killed that part of himself, when the need for control and power took over. It wasn't about Lana at all, and the scene where his father chose to save his legs over his life was telling. At first I thought, well 'why they hell are you so angry, you did the same thing once' but it was about having that decision taken away from him. It was a great ep, and I enjoyed the sidebar of Clark being SuperSanta, and seeing Lana and Clark just simple and happy again:)

That was a good episode, loved how when Lex said that he wanted to be senator, and we know that will turn into president soon. Looks like we can say good bye to paw soon.

There were many sad moments in this fantastic episodes, but the part that made me feel saddest was when Jonathan said Lex was like a son. There was just this look on Lex's face of sheer happiness and yet sadness at the same time. Lex has always looked at Jonathan as the father he wished he always had. I think there has always been a great dynamic between Lex and Jonathan. All in all I really felt bad for Lex, I was hoping for "A Family Man (Nick Cage)" sort of ending, but was much happier with thier choice. Bravo Brainiac, I think the writers of the show would be very proud of you. I had the inkling of that idea, but you hit the nail on the head for me.

No disrespect but I felt like I was watching the family man all over again. I fail to understand how this season can be called SIT.

It wasn't so much "The Family Man" part of the show that was important, it was more of a charater building episode for Lex. It shows how and why he starts going down the path to becoming the person he is in the future. If you go up a couple of posts, you'll see Braniac's perspective on the show, and he nails it.

I agree with Tony it did have a little Family Man mixed with a Christmas Carol, ending was good. However lets face it it was going to be a freaky, action packed episode.

I understand the meaning behind it but I still fail to see how this season can be called SIT

Hey Tony, i'm not really suer what SIT is? You don't mean the s*it, do you?
