Ideas on how to PERMANANTLY bring in flight

next season. he already knows he can fly. Why not just do it?:o

Got me on that one. I've been wanting to see him discover it since senior year and accept it, just like the comics, but they've dragged it out.

Everybody else who was capable of flying flew, yes it can, but they probably want to do it differently.

What about ditching 1 of the other super-powers, preferably super-speed, for flight?

I don't like the idea of ditching any powers.

as far as i'm concerned, flight doesn't have to be a main power. doesn't need to come into play a lot. it's about Clark knowing he can fly, and being prepared to use that ability when necessary. That's the problem. That's a dynamic they haven't been willing to approach yet.

I hate comparing Heroes to Smallville, but seriously, We've known for a season that Nathan can fly. But he still uses conventional travel when flight isn't necessary, and they only showed the actual use of his power a few times all season. I really don't think Clark obtaining the ability to fly would hurt their effects budget too much.

Plus, there's nothing saying he has to immediately be comfortable with flight.

Then we see him experiment, maybe build ala Superman Returns or the classic comics. Jumping further than hitting flight at some point fully.

That's the way I always approached it, when it came down to some of my fan scripts back in the day.

Well, with Kara arriving on the show, it should be relatively easy.

I think that it would be really cool to see Clark develop his skills for flying throughout a season. I mean, think about it, flying is the power for Superman. It's the one he's iconic for (besides strength) and it's arguably the power that everyone wants and think is the coolest.

In lue of the addition of Supergirl to the series and her already established powers of flight... I'd love to see Clark slowly learning and taking the steps towards flight all along the seventh season with some MAJOR strides occuring towards the end. If they end up doing an eighth season and think that having their lead be able to fly is a problem... don't worry, there's an INSANELY easy fix... Flying gets him noticed and he doesn't do it (unless the circumstances are dire) until he has his secret identity, which is where the show ends.

It really makes no sense have a character who is known for flying not able to fly whereas all the others can including his cousin.

i think it would be a travesty to not have Clark learn how to fly until the final episode, but I think that's probably what the producers are leaning towards.. :csad:

i don't think they shoudl have had him fly in season 4 because before then, you were just like okay he runs fast he hasn't learnt taht yet. But, afetr that you were like god he knows he can fly why doesn't he.

they can just insinuate flight by showing him doing a super jump into the sky then show him land at whatever destination he needs to go to.

Oh God, no! That reminds me too much of that old 70s Saturday morning show Shazam

I like how everyone ignores the fact that the producers have stated this show will be "no flights, no tights." Welling's not going to fly as Superman, guys. That's not what the show is about.

Actually, if they do it right, it'd be very similar to the way we have super speed done. Right now, he just blurs out of a room with the woosh sound effect. They generally don't need to show him running somewhere for us to know that he did, and got there really, really fast. Same principal. The mind fills in the blanks.

Older shows like Shazam, and to a (slightly) lesser extent Lois and Clark, the way the initial effect was filmed was the problem, and made it really corny.

It would be like seeing little red lasers come out of clark's eyes, instead of the heat vision effect we've grown custom to. Now. if clark's eyes were to glow red, and you hear the sound of his heat vision starting, even if him welding something, isn't in the shot, you know that's what happened, once you see the welding done.

wouldn't be the first time they've bent, or broken their own rules.

also, Clark flying doesn't make it superman flying.

In a recent interview with ifmagazine Al said that Clark might be getting flying lessons this upcoming season. If so that would be awesome!

I suppose but if Clark learns to fly because of Kara then I'll be extremely disappointed. It cheapens what should be an iconic, powerful moment in the series. Time will tell I guess...

what Clark needs is a magic feather.

Flying Squrrel tail!

..... Super Mario 3 was awesome

He may not learn to fly through instruction by Kara, but she may give him the insentive. I could go along with that.

Ya know, "anything you can do, I can do better....."

Or perhaps Kara can fly, but ends up doing something reckless or loses control, and Clark's forced to fly to help her in some way. Of course, i'm grasping at straws. :D

Writers have been quoted to say that the last shot of smallville will be of clark ripping his shirt open to reveal the "S" on his classic blue and reds and fly up to the camera.

From nowplayingmag.com:
So as Lex continues to get darker as the show progresses, the question must be asked: How many more years will Smallville run?
"I say seven seasons," Gough admits. "It seems to be what shows in this genre can do and do well. Certainly in our case suddenly you're bumping up against 'Why the **** isn't he putting on the suit?' I say that's probably a good number. Will it end with him putting on the suit? And Lex making that last step to evil? Yeah, absolutely."
- Al Gough

From LA Times:
"This is a story that definitely has an end. At a certain point he goes to the Fortress of Solitude, becomes Superman and flies off. That's the story. We don't want to be one of those shows that overstays its welcome."
- Al Gough

While I agree actors generally know SQUAT about what producers, directors, and the studio wants, even Welling has said he believes they'll have one scene at the very end of the show with him in the suit. This was retold through an interview with James Marsters in SV Magazine.

And before people start dragging out the SR/film arguments again (I'm looking at YOU, All-Star  ), we're talking about the very END of the show. This would be the final scenes - the last hurrah. G&M and others were NOT talking about events halfway through a season. These are things we will see in the finale episode. How it actually plays out is anybody's guess, however.
