Well, he's not saying that it's because it's French, I don't think. It's fine to hate the French and everything about them. I think it's the part about having to read that takes the cake.

Well its more of having to read subtitles and a little bit of hating french movies in general. I get irked by the notion of having an american based movies award show digging into foriegn cinema for awards when there were plenty of movies this year alone that were worth the nominations here. It may seem like a bullhead way of thinking but maybe honor the hard work of filmmakers here first.

That's even worse as now it pertains to all foreign movies instead of just country. I can understand not liking foreign movies, but saying they shouldn't be nominated for Best Picture because they are foreign is asinine.

It's not like Foreign movies dominate the Oscars like you make it sound like, and the Oscars is not just America only. It's worldwide. It's an American based awards show that recognizes movies worldwide. In fact, the Oscars have been doing a better job at recognizing foreign films in the last few years than did in previous decades and I am glad for that.

Also, honor the hard work of filmmakers here? What? Filmmakers around the world don't work hard either? Also, foreign filmmakers shouldn't be honored at the Oscars for more categories than best foreign film? It's an immature and ignorant way of thinking.

This is a rather horrible opinion to have, but it's yours to have, but I'm really hoping you're not trying to imply foreign films shouldn't be considered for BP just because some people will have to read to follow it.

Not at all but lets call a spade a spade whenever entirely subtitled movies come out what is the first complaint you here from the GA?

I call them like I see them, and it's a terrible opinion. You're dismissing the movie for being nominated for Best Picture on the basis that its French. Not that its a drama. Not that there's not an actor you don't like. But because its French. I can't think of a worse reason to say a movie shouldn't be nominated for best picture, and you tend to, put things lightly have incredibly questionable opinions.

questionable from a certain point of view. I could care less if a movie if french, russian, italian, chinese, korean etc., Im saying when we watch movies were watching what plays out on screen so when you ask your audience to read at the bottom of the screen for most of the movie your detouring them what the actors are doing above. Its a cheap gimmick that I hate because you try to read fast then look up at the actors and it becomes annoying. As good as waltz was in inglorious bastards when he would speak german, the subtitles went fast so I missed alot of what he was saying but shocker once they ditched the subtitles and I could just watch him go through a scene in english I loved the character.

Because I've totally heard riots in the streets about Amour getting a BP nod.

What we usually hear is [Insert movie here] got snubbed for [insert movie here]. Not [Insert english movie here] got snubbed for [insert foreign language movie here]. Not anywhere have I heard anyone complain about Amour getting a nod because it has subtitles.

And calling foreign language a gimmick for having subtitle is even more asinine than anything else you've said.

Well, okay...I guess I sort of get your logic here. As far as I know, there isn't like a specific American-based award ceremony like some other countries have. I don't particular agree with it, but I sorta see where you're coming from.

But we gotta be above the influence, bro. Above the influence.

Thats the general opinion outside of these boards whether you like it or not. Go on IGN, Yahoo, MSN or any website positng the nominations and Im not alone. The Oscar in general when there ratings are down try to cater to the young demo to stay alive on tv but the GA wont tune in to see a foriegn indie film or any indie film beat a bigger more known movie here. you may not like what Im spinning here but its a fact. Thats been the stigma around the oscars for years that they gravitate to the more less known movies and in turn create a bigger disconnect with the younger audience.

So what's your point here? They shoudn't be nominated because it doesn't cater specifically to American audiences? If so, that's a terrible reason.

Also, no one's complaining about Amour getting nominated. I've checked those sites. No one's outraged over it. It's all hyperbole in your mind.

I get ya, but a stigma is a stigma and the oscars have made it worse the past couple of years. I still hate um for giving kings speech the oscar over social network. Last year really took the cake with the artist winning over the Descendants and hugo.

Now you're counting British movies? First you were talking about foreign language and now it's British movies and silent movies.

You're really grasping for straws to whine about.

I dout it nor am I gonna do searches for you and copy and paste them here. Its only hyperbole here that Im choosing to go against the grain and not eat up what ever the oscars tells me is the best movie of the year. I guess then Ricky Gervais was wrong in his monologue at the golden globes then?

We're not talking about the Golden Globes. Nor have there been any complaints on Amour nominations. I know when there's controversy when a movie gets nominated for BP, like Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. You can't bring any stories discussing the matter because they don't exist and you're making it all up. There's no one complaining about it, and there's no articles that arguing for foreign language movies shouldn't be nominated.

I was scared that Seth would hold back but after seeing that announcement, I'm glad they got him to host.

I have a feeling he'll be going for the throat at the ceremony.

I love this pic. Riva and Wallis:

Those fake posters as the gods honest truth. Regarding the french movie I have seen movies like those on HBO all the time where it has subtitles and the same film quality so what is so special about this one? I cant get into a movie and consider it best picture when I have to read the whole time and take away from the acting. Yes this went for passion of the christ as well.
You're 12, aren't you? Please tell me you're 12.

You're 12, aren't you? Please tell me you're 12.

No bashing, please. Can't we just be friendly to each other?

Im not bashing, Im just having a spirited discussion and if people dont agree with me thats fine, Im not here to be a puppet and agree with everybody and not bring anything new to the table. If you dont like the tunes Im spinning dont listen. scroll right on bye til something strikes ya. And people can respond to what you are saying.

I didn't know people found watching movies with subtitles so difficult.

If you don't like subtitles you can always watched dubbed versions of films.
