Roma won’t win Best Picture. They’ll give it Best Foreign Film and maybe Best Director but that’s it.

Best Picture: Green Book/ASIB
Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron
Best Actor: Bale-I think he pulls the upset
Best Actress: Olivia Colman
Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali
Best Supporting Actress- Amy Adams

Welp, I'm pretty much on a completely different wavelength than the Academy so I'm not surprised that the nominations are kind of whatever to me (though better than the Globes and I do like Roma, so happy for it), not quite understanding how Hawke did not get nominated for First Reformed and how Burning is not in the Foreign Film category.

Between the smaller technical Oscars being presented during the commercials, the song performances being cut down to two, and no announcement of a host a month before the ceremony, they're really trying to get the telecast to last only two hours, aren't they? :o

I still think it would be sweet if they tapped Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie to host. No script needed.

...just cancel the whole event. And have the winners announced on Twitter by The Blank Check Podcast.

And if Gaga has any respect for her fellow musicians she'd decline doing it unless all 5 get to perform.
You know her ego will not allow such a thing. :p

Imagine tellin' all them Nolan fanboys after Dark Knight came out on here... the guy who directed Step Brothers and Anchorman had more best director noms.

Close was great but the film is such a mess :/ My winner is either Stone or Gaga, I haven't decided yet

Colman is imho supporting and by going lead she frauded herself out of the Oscar

At this point they might as well just do what the critic groups do: have a closed ceremony and announce the winners on Twitter. Then they could put the winners' speeches up on YouTube.

Or perhaps it's time to terminate the partnership with ABC and put the ceremony on a streaming service like YouTube, Netflix, or Amazon. That way they wouldn't have to worry about the show running too long.

The dirty secret about The Favourite - they are all supporting. It's like The Death of Stalin. There is no clearly-defined central character. If there is any case to be made, it's that Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz are co-leads - as the film centers on the two competing with each other for Colman's favor.

Colman played this wrong. Had she stuck with supporting, she still would have received a nomination (likely at the expense of Weisz or Stone), and she'd probably be in a stronger position to win. Where it stands now, with her in the lead category, she's not beating Close.

They need to get over trying to make the broadcast shorter. Don't air the technical awards over commercial break and let the best song nominees sing (even if it's shortened versions of their songs)
