90th Annual Academy Awards

Give Rockwell his Oscar via UPS now. Save some time.

Best Picture is between Three Billboards and Shape of Water.

Producers Guild of America: The Shape of Water
Screen Actors Guild: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Actors make up the largest portion of the Academy, so Three Billboards' Ensemble win on Sunday cannot be ignored. However, if The Shape of Water wins Directors Guild and Writers Guild, then things will get really interesting. Three Billboards would have the actors, but Shape of Water would have the producers, directors, and writers.

Get Out is on Blu Ray, correct? I would like to rewatch Dunkirk again, but seeing the other films is a higher priority for me right now.

As if it already wasn't, Oldman's win is guaranteed now. His only weak spot was Darkest Hour missing Best Picture.

It was nominated.

That Denzel nomination is getting so much hate on my twitter feed.

Seriously Academy, you did see Logan. You didn't nominate Hanks for years. Gyllenhaal is one step away from sleeping in dead horses like DiCaprio just to get some love from you.

But no.

DENZEL.

Get Out is also on HBO now too. It’s terrific - definitely catch it when you can.

Detroit getting overlooked this award season is odd. The cast was mostly young talent. Anthony Mackie joked that he was the veteran actor on set. I'm sure the likes of Poulter, Rayner and Boyega will probably get their moment in the sun in the future.

Daniel Kaluuya being a academy award nominated actor feels well deserved yet strange. Back in the day when I watched Skins I never would of imagined those actors would one day be academy award nominated.

I know. That's what I'm saying. Darkest Hour missing was his only weak spot. Since it didn't miss, his win is all but guaranteed.

I get that the Academy loves Denzel, but nominating him for Roman J. Israel when you had people like Tom Hanks (The Post), Hugh Jackman (Logan) and James McAvoy (Split) right there for the taking is odd.

I was just watching old episodes of That Mitchell and Webb look and realized he had a few bit parts in their sketches. Some of them weren't even speaking roles.

It just goes to show you can never tell where someone's career is gonna lead.

Oh I will sometime this week probably. I am seeing Three Billboards tonight. Saturday since I want to make sure I see all the movies I can while they're out, I am seeing 3 movies Saturday (The Shape of Water about 12:30, Darkest Hour about 4:10, and The Post about 7:00).

Add Get Out to my watching week, and I will only need to see Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, and Phantom Thread. None of which are at my closest theater, so I may have to wait a little longer on them, or make a travel day on a day off to another theater.

Three of my favorite directors made it in for Best Director.

This might be my favorite year ever.

Its amazing how far hes come considering at the start of awards season he was looking like an after thought.

Nolan!!!!! Finally!!!!!! Logan!!!!!!!! Get Out!!!!!! Not much Blade Runner love except techs but i expected that, same with Apes.

I actually love Denzel in that movie. A massive bright spot in a whatever movie.

It's my favorite based on Rockwell making it finally, after experiencing 'why not him, Academy?' when watching nominations for years :funny:

Also just think of Armiie Hammer's tears rn :funny:

CMBYN did not have a good morning. Guadagnino misses Director and neither of the supporting actor contenders were able to crack it.

Christopher Nolan
Guillermo Del Toro
Paul Thomas Anderson

All in one year. I am here for it.

Wonder how many, if any, folks will wonder why Detroit didn't get anything- though haven't seen it myself. But very happy with the nods for Shape of Water and Three Billboards.

Detroit came and went unfortunately, and reviews weren't THAT amazing.

At least it has a best adapted screenplay win to look forward to.

This is also a tough one for me as I love all their work. I feel Nolan missed nominations in the past, so happy he got one here (though Dunkirk is not my favorite Nolan film, he deserves it). PT Anderson I still wish had won for There Will Be Blood. That is one of my top 5 favorite movies, and I wish he had won BD and that it won BP that year. As for Del Toro, how in the world did Pan's Labyrinth not win Best Foreign film!!!! :cmad:

I am going to have to see Phantom Thread and Shape of Water before I decide who to pull for. Not familiar enough with the other 2 nominees to comment on their work.
