I know it's way too early to tell but I'm starting a prayer circle for Dune Part Two to be the first big genre blockbuster to win Best Picture since Return of the King. Nominations in all of the same categories as Part One are practically a guarantee except maybe Best Score? That's always an iffy one with sequels because of their rules but Hans already took one home the first time around anyway. Hopefully Denis can score a Directing nom this time.

Look im not saying that Godzilla will win Back to Back Oscars for VFX but he has the opportunity to win Back to Back VFX Oscars and he should win again

All i'm asking is this :o

Are you talking about Godzilla x Kong? It didn't have much chance against Dune in 2021, it sure as hell doesn't have one now. I think the only film that could have make it into a real competition is Avatar 3 if it hadn't been delayed yet another time.

Way too soon to be talking this, but right now I'm most interested in -

- Will Eastwood manage to get one final nomination for his big send-off?
- Will either of Saiorse Ronan's buzzy roles finally get her the gold?
- Will Rachel Morrison pull off the cinematographer-director pivot that killed Wally Pfister's career?

And I CANNOT WAIT for the Samuel L. Jackson Oscar campaign. It's gonna make JLC's push look quaint in comparison.

Godzilla vs. Kong wasn't even nominated in the VFX category two years ago so I wouldn't necessarily expect GxK to be either.

I find your lack of godzillafaith disturbing. :emp:

Move over Dune 2, Furiosa and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. :o

Between Godzilla x Kong, Abigail, and Cuckoo I'm just here for the year of Dan Stevens.

It's funny. For most of the last five or so years I was thinking "This man needs to play a superhero" but these days I'm thinking "Christopher Nolan or Denis Villeneuve need to hire this man."

Yeah, projects like the Monster verse ought to.be beneath the guy. He is a fine actor.

The Monsterverse is no different from the MCU or DC in the vein of big blockbuster franchises that renowned and award winning actors will do for a paycheck or for their kids so I can't fault him for that. After all, he was also in the Beauty and the Beast remake but he was also one of the reasons why it's one of the better Disney live action remakes.

Actors like Dan Stevens do things like GvK so they can do more arthouse fare. Or Solar Opposites :D

Rooting for Dune this year but I think the Academy is going to do what they did with LOTR and wait until Dun3 to give it all the accolades.

Wicked is either going to be loathed by the internet gays and showered with nominations, or it’s going to be beloved and is only going to land, like… Sound Editing.

Either way, the discourse will be insufferable.

Wicked might just end up getting the Wonka treatment where it makes a lot of money and discourse but no nominations whatsoever.

Wonka had an Oscar-friendly lead and director, but I feel like the life Wicked has had on the stage is going to create a lot more expectation about how it’ll do during the awards cycle.

Well, it's got some competitors this season for that kind of movie between The Lion King 2, Moana 2, and Joker 2. And add to the fact that they're splitting the movie into two parts, it's got plenty of things going against it.

I don't know what you guys see in Wicked but based on that trailer I really can't imagine this attracting any awards whatsoever, even in a slow year like this one.

I would add Costner's Horizon to the mix of maybe getting some attention if the films are good, especially in some technical categories.

It's too early to tell but I could possibly see Cynthia Erivo getting some awards season attention for Wicked but I'm really having a hard time wrapping my head around a movie with Ariana Grande as one of the leads getting serious Oscar attention. Maybe I'm just being closed-minded. :o

To be fair, Bradley Cooper’s Lady Gaga movie got him more Oscar love than his solo did, so you never know.

Lady Gaga's got more skill in the acting department than Ariana, IMO.
