The Dark Knight Rises A Hero Rises: The Batman Thread

By now most of us (in one form or another) have seen the prologue and the trailer. There's some Catwoman chatter but the overall impact has been made by Bane and the total menace of the situation Gotham finds itself in.

Now don't get me wrong, I love a great villain, after all a hero is only as good as his villain as if the villain is weak and does not create a formidable challenge for the hero then the victory is less sweet. However the Bane thing has gotten to the point where many posts come off as if some would be happy if Bane won.

To me the greatest thing about how menacing Bane is and how much peril Gotham is in, is how exciting it will be when Batman fights back, rises from the rubble and in the end kicks Bane's ass, because as badass a creation as Bane seems to be and as menacing as he is, I still can't wait to see Batman kick his ass and overcome the odds.

So this thread is basically about looking forward to Batman in this movie, to his fightback and ultimate victory!

Hunter if you were the one who banned me for requesting the prologue, you are forgiven sir! I don't give a **** about Bane, hell I don't give a **** about the Joker. I'm all for Batman. I'm a Batman fan all the way. Good form sir!

I know things look Bad for Bats with the threat of Bane but I'm more than confident he will rise from this triumphant in the end.

I hope he wins in the end for sure. I just hope its not by using BatPepper spray.I know that would mess with Banes eyes and breathing but thats kind of a girlie weapon.

And I just hope Bruce gets a real serious life changing beating with a crippling injury. Not just some boring non life changing cuts and bruises. He got those when Rachel Dawes slapped him in her car.

From what I can see it kind of looks like hes gets whopped and then thrown in a prison of some sort. With no ipads and PS3's in there I'm surprised he couldn't translate the chant and had to ask for help from Mr Conti. Theres nothing else to do in that prison but learn the damn songs and grow a mustache.
Maybe the asian gangster Bruce called "Practice" (or Mr. Practice) in Batman Begins will help him get out of this jail. Who knows?

Batman Triumphant. :batman:

I could see Bane ultimately losing but Batman still dying in the end. Hope he lives though.

As a Batman fan, first and foremost, I will find Batman's victory over Bane to be astonishingly gratifying. Bane, in my opinion, is one hell of a mountain to overcome -- brute strength, freakish willpower and discipline, and stunning intelligence. It's a villain that will make Batman flinch.

I, for one, am extremely grateful that Nolan chose Bane as the final and possibly greatest threat to Batman. A few will try to criticize and discredit the character but, honestly, who cares? Bane breaks The Bat. No amount of insults will degrade the character.

Here's to Batman's comeback victory!

Hear hear! We'll see a hungrier and more determined Batman than ever in the final confrontation, and he wont be playing around I am sure of it.

Is that what they've done to Bane? :csad:

I heard that he was going to be the big bad in Batman: The Dark Knight. Are they really taking cues from Arkham City? BAH.

Bane had such a great thing going on in Secret Six; I hope all that great characterization isn't just forgotten about.

Without a shadow of a doubt, every single one of us (in the end) wants to see batman getting the upper hand.

And i agree with most of you, i think that the hype going around Bane is based that we will see a challenge that will put Batman in jeopardy like never before, thus making him use every resource he has.

Of course! (pun intended) we want to see Bane kicking bats ass for a while, thats what make it interesting. But everything serve to a purpose, which is, WE WANT BATMAN TO WIN at the end.

Cheering for Bats to rise will no doubt be amazing. I am really looking forward to seeing this all come together because right now it is very hard to figure out.....

Bane breaks him in costume, hence the broken cowl.

Bruce is seen walking with a cane, both in public (LA shoot) and in Wayne Manor (trailer)

Bruce is seen in prison but without a cane and doing push ups, etc. So does this mean after he gets a beat down and is out and about for a bit he is then whisked off to a prison?

It's really hard to get a chronology on the active/injured/recovery/prison thing.

What do you guys think?

I get a thread named after me? Fantastic. :woot::cwink::batman:

Heh! :D

Hunter Rider, I got the same exact feeling you did, that people were hyping up Bane to the point where it seemed like they just want the movie to be called "Bane Rises"...when I point this out, people thought I was just overreacting. I'm glad someone agrees with me on this.

Yeah I think it often happens with the villain in these types of movie, and some have really gotten carried away this time to the point I got the impression if it ended with Bane as king of Gotham and Bats valiantly dead they'd be ok with it.

The sad thing about the Batman universe is that there are so many great characters, people tend to forget about the main one. Hal Jordan has the same problem in the GL mythos. And we all know about the "TDK was the Joker's movie" comments. More important than how badass Bane is or whether or not Catwoman has a cowl is that Bruce Waynes story is properly told. Thankfully, the trailer has been reassuring. Most of the characters in it are there to service bruce.

Agreed, as I said I think a strong and fearsome villain is great for the enhancement of the arc of a great hero, but not to replace the hero as the center of the film.

All the crap that will happen to Bruce/Batman will make his victory much, much sweeter so I say bring on the pain because the gain will be fantastic! :hrt:

Exactly, The journey has been across three movies but this film seems to break Bruce down on every level, watching him put the pieces back together and make his comeback should have every fans hairs standing on the back of their neck.

Isn't the "Characterisation of the Bat" thread covering the same thing? Just a note: we already have a Batman thread.

This isn't about characterization though which is more a discussion of nuances and layers, this is more old fashioned, it's about remembering the hero and the excitement of the hero fighting back and kicking ass.

T I don't think the day light fight is the final battle . Just like everyone assume the batman/Joker in the street scene was final battler .... Nope I think thsts wher Bange gets the upperhand thanks to Talis

I think it has to be the final fight as the first takes place in the sewer, and the fight filmed on the steps in Pittsburgh seems to be part of the same running battle shot in New York.

Heh, I haven't banned anyone recently. Good to see another fan of the main man first and foremost though.

Love the shot in the trailer when Bats engages Bane and throws the first punch. He looks determined.

EDIT: Blue Sugar, you beat me to it! haha

Batman is my bro! That shot in the prologue sizzle reel where Batman is ready to fight Bane at City Hall got me so pumped up because I know that's when he's ready for Bane. His posture, the look in his eyes, it all screams readiness. And you can tell from the trailer that Bane is legitimately intimidated in that scene. Even symbolically. Batman is standing further up the stairs, and he just towers over Bane. It's as if that was shot and situated so that we subconsciously get the feeling of Batman ready to dish out some "I'm back, mother****er!" fighting moves.

I'm thinking it has to be, it looks like part of Nolans symbolism in which Batman who is nocturnal 'rises' to aid Gotham in a time of need. He breaks free from the shadows so that all of Gotham can see their hero with their own eyes. Forget about the rumors and the boogeyman ghost stories. THIS is Batman, for the world to see.

That's what I hope at least.

Assuming the prison scene is not a flashback, the cane may be a ruse. It's that damned cane I can't fit anywhere chronologically.

If he is broken and sent to to some prison surely the Gotham he returns to must be in shambles so how does the public shoot fit in ? I would expect mass rioting, this looks more like a paparazzi thing.

Now I'm thinking he has the cane before ***** hits the fan, a prior injury maybe. But really I got nothing.

A total mystery this movie.

Of course I want to see Batman come back from the most difficult situation. To see his will to fight back is always inspiring. But as many have said, this thread seems to be close to the other threads we've had before. Maybe this should be turned into a Batman vs Bane poll to see who wants who to win?

Another thing that I like is that based on the set videos and clips that we've seen, Batman fights alongside GPD and Gotham's citizens against Bane and his forces to reclaim Gotham..which is a contrast to what was shown in TDK, where everyone in Gotham was quick to turn on Batman as soon as things started getting tough.

Absolutely. I really hope those set pics we saw of the GCPD looking up and cheering are in fact part of a scene of the GCPD cheering for Batman and The Bat.

Me too. Bane will take away everything Bruce has in pretty much all areas of his life. But that just means we're going to get definitive resolutions to those problems. The payoff of goose bump inducing scenes such as that cheering would be all worth it. I was watching LOTR Two Towers last night, and the scene where Isengard was flooding got to me actually. Like TDKR, evil will reign for quite some time. But one day, and it might seem that day will never come, evil will be washed away.

Agreed, in BB he is trained and returns to Gotham with the goal of becoming a symbol of hope, and inspiration. In TDK he inspires a good man like Dent but also a psycho like The Joker, so he questions himself and in the end realizes the sacrifices he must make to achieve his overall goal, leading to the city he has set out to save turning on him.

Looking at the huge battle, Batman inspires the good people of Gotham to stand with him against the evil that is trying to destroy their city, thus his mission from BB is finally complete.

daymn, bane is one aggressive mofo.

i love that we see the trailer shot in that spy-video, looks like ten times more awesome in trailer with the amazing cinematography.
