From Pilot, it said Queen went missing as in his origins:

He was obviously stranded on the Island where he learned his skills to be Green Arrow. That was a crucial step with him becoming the emerald archer.

My question is, that event was about 15-16 years ago. Wouldnt that make Ollie well into his 40s?

Dont know. Ollie was an orphan just like Bruce Wayne and he hates discussing his parents. That headline is similar to one that would recount Oliver Queen's own disapearance to Starfish Island where he trained to be Green Arrow.

I'm guessing they changed his history or are ignoring that newspaper.

that was just done in the Pilot as one of many nods to the fans.

When you make a Pilot episode, you have no idea if the show is gonna get picked up much less go for 6 seasons. I dont think the show should be tied to continuity from something as simple as a set prop from its first episode 5 years ago. I wouldnt be concerned with trying to reconcile the two.

although that does bring up the interesting question will he be like fresh of the island when he shows up on Smallville?

And will he and Lex trade similar stories?

It'd be a minor tweak to the story, but him being an orphan could be tied into the CEO's disappearence in the paper. Maybe Ollie's father (the CEO) and mother fled the country or got lost on a trip and he feels abandoned.

But then it would be pretty strange for Ollie to one day later disapear from civilization as well.

I'm curious what they will do but I dont think thats the route they will take.

did his parents die when he got shipwrecked? I dont think they did, but I guess Smallville could go that route, and have him on the island as a younger kid. I'm assuming he'll be a few years older than Clark, probably close to Lex's age

That could work I guess. Although it would be a little bit weird for him to become an archer at 10 at the oldest. Well younger actually since Smallville has been 5 years and the paper was seen 15 years prior to then.

Both of them would've disappeared, but his parents were never found. Ollie on the other hand would've re-emerged eventually. Question is.. how long was he on the island?

The way Oliver Queen was turned into an orphan was never discussed in the comics. He holds a certain grudge against his parents and doesnt like to talk about it.

Ya that could work I suppose. However, if he grew up on an island all alone from the age of a child, he'd be pretty messed up. He'd be like Tarzan, minus the jungle.

maybe not if he had a friend named wilson to keep him company

Perhaps his parents died one night in an attack when he was 15 or something years old. Thus, he hasn't been "raised by the jungle" a la Tarzan, but was in the jungle for a very long time.

They can make this work is 2 easy. Just make him be stranded with his mom and dad let the mother die and his father raise him on the Island. The background for the father since he is a rich person could be that he was head captin in the Archer club of his University and after the accident he teaches his son to become one and then he dies and thats it :D we have our Green Arrow

I did a quick search, and it seems like they died while he was in college but I couldnt find much of an explanation. Seems likely if SV wanted to stay in continuity with that headline, they would go the route you suggested. Something like a charity event on a yacht with his parents, the yacht sinks his parents die and he's been on the island until roughly around the time of season 5 perfecting his skills. Guess he'd have to be slightly older thank Clark.

Something else I was thinking though was that Ollie's best friend is Hal. Think they we'll get a nod to him?

Why would they know each other now? I thought they only met post-JLA.

Lois introduces them. :D

(get it?) LOL

:( sadly yes.

Oliver Queen does have the reputation for the biggest womanizer in the DC universe. I have a scary feeling that angle is going to be played up.

that was just a nod to fans, I dont think they ever imagined using Green Arrow when they started the show.......

I'm just hoping they don't **** Lois up too much, if you know what I mean? They've got her falling for everybody except the guy she's supposed to fall for. LOL

Holy. Thanks for that.

Are they allowed to explore Lois and Clark's relationship now? I dont see it as much of a problem anymore with the features department.

I wouldnt mind them getting romantic as Lois playing the 'big sister' card to Clark is getting kind of old and strange.

I'm hoping that they go that route this season and phase Lana out of Clark's life. All she does is cause problems.

Yeah but remember that in Aqua she kind of gives an explanation why she falls for these guys that are trying to do something to make the world a better place. Wait 'till she sees Tom in tights...:supes:

On a side note it would be cool if they do go with the Island thing if they could give us a more indepth flashback of that pilot scene in which Lionel mentions Oliver's dad or something...
