ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee kicked off his executive session at the Television Critics Association press tour Sunday morning by taking a shot at Fox chief Kevin Reilly, who opened his own panel with a lengthy tutorial on the network's ratings complete with pie charts and graphs.

Lee is keen to exploit Disney's partnerships with Marvel and Star Wars creator George Lucas' Lucasfilm; Disney acquired Marvel and Lucasfilm last year for $4 billion each. Agents of SHIELD will be the first Marvel property to get the primetime series treatment at ABC. "We are loving this relationship [with Marvel]," gushed Lee. "The relationship with Marvel and with other Disney [intellectual property] across the company is something we are ambitious to build. We have lots of little schemes in mind." But Lee was mum on details. And he added that development with Lucasfilm may take more time considering the company's full plate with a new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which is due in 2015. "We have started conversations with them," said Lee. "I'd love to go there. I'm a particular fan of Lucasfilm. It's an amazing world."

More Marvel, more Star Wars. I would think Di$ney would focus more on quality than quantity.

Marvel Knights, Daredevil ft Punisher, Runaways, Heroes for Hire, Moon Knight, Alias/AKA Jessica Jones, Agents of Atlas, Blade ft Ghost Rider/Werewolf By Night

the darker shows on Showtime or FX, the not so nasty on ABC, and Runaways, although i hate to say it would be a perfect fit on ABC Family

So many of the MARVEL heroes and concepts do lend themselves to a weekly tv format. I never thought that DareDevil was a sure fire movie hit waiting to happen. But a weekly tv show? Now you're talkin'! Of course CAGE AND FIST (with Wing and Knight as supporting characters natch) is also ready for prime time. (See what I did there?) Hell even Punisher would be interesting as an after 10pm show. For a more off the beaten path type of show? Runaways? Power Pack? Hell, why not use some of the old horror/sci fi anthology titles as the basis of a weekly anthology show? Tales of Suspense, anyone?

Strange Tales, Tales of Suspense, Tales to Astonish, Journey Into Mystery, Amazing Fantasy, World Of Fantasy

all names they could use to tell whatever story/ies they wanted set in the MCU

I personally feel Agents of the Shield will bomb a few episodes after the pilot. SW TV in live action would be a slam dunk, but now they have another trilogy. Not a bad thing per say, but they would be wise to get some SW TV going in prime time Sundays or Thursdays on ABC, 9 pm ET window. I think a young Han Solo spinoff would be awesome. You wouldn't be able to do full blown Old Republic series on a TV budget, but that isn't a story I think too many people are keen about, as evident with the failure of the Old Republic MMO.

Marvel shows need to be griddy. Star Wars needs to be lighter and on network TV. You have to take Heroes for Hire and Daredevil into prime time on cable. This network TV stuff will fail so hard, unless they are gearing for an ABC Family type demographic. I think Arrow has opened up some eyes at ABC and they want to follow suite. But CW has a built in niche for that stuff. Do not try to emulate that with simply a bigger budget and more sex appeal.

i can't see shield failing at all, let alone a few episodes in. Marvel has never been bigger and Whedon has a huge fanbase. plus, if they ever do need a boost in the ratings just tease an appearance by ironman or cap and theyre set.

You're making literally no sense. If anything Marvel is the one who should (and will) be light while Star Wars needs to be "gritty" if you want to staple them with those stupid terms.

Mr. M please don't bring your unwanted negativity. I highly, HIGHLY doubt AoS will bomb let alone after a few episodes. Whedon has a HUGE following. Clark Gregg has a HUGE following. Those two alone are going to pull in viewers.

I'm glad ABC Entertainment wants more Marvel. I see a show being sin off the second season of AoS. I think they'll want to give it two seasons to see if it does well.

Concepts I think could do really well:

Runaways on ABC Family since it'll work well on teen oriented channel.

Young Avengers on ABC or ABC Family depending on if they want to want light hearted teen fair or a little more serious take. Either way I think Young Avengers could be interesting now that the Avengers movie has been made.

Heroes for Hire (Luke and Rand) on ABC. They could work well in a serialized format.

A female character show if they're still scared to put it on the big screen. Someone like Mockingbird or Spider-Woman. I think they'll do it if WB ever comes around to getting Wonder Woman on TV. ABC Family

Daredevil, Punisher, Moon Knight etc on FX or HBO or Showtime like people said.

How I wish Marvel had the rights to the mutants back. A show centered on the students and the school would be awesome.

I don't think Marvel shows need to be gritty, because the movies aren't gritty and the comics, by and large, aren't gritty. Daredevil, Punisher, these things need premium cable channels. Everything else? Nah.

I do think a Han Solo prequel show would be best for SW TV. Han and Lando and Chewie back to back, busting heads and taking names. Guest Star some Jedi, I suppose. Having a plotline that features Starkiller (Witwier reprising) would be totally awesome, and there's a lot of other 'Dark Times' stuff you could put in there. That could clean up on ABC, especially if back to back with AoS.

Maybe Marvel/ABC can set up something similar to the old "Wonderful World of Disney" and have "out of continuity" films or shorts for smaller characters in an anthology format. They could do it maybe once a month or even quarterly, and make it a bit of a spectacle. If one of the movies/shorts is really popular, they could do a "sequel" later on (like Mr. Boogedy/Bride of Boogedy).

That's never EVER been the Marvel way. I don't expect that to change with Disney.

As long as its decent then theres no problem, if it starts to feel like a cash cow churning stuff out then that could detract from the good that they do elsewhere.

I think Agents of SHIELD will be a success, and I don't see why ABC can't have the same kind of success with Marvel TV shows like CW had with Smallville and now with Arrow. If they can find the right producers and creative team who not only knows the characters but also knew how to reinvent them on the small screen, they will have many potential franchises on their hands. And Marvel has enough street level superheroes like Heroes For Hire, Daredevil, and Punisher who can operate on a smaller budget but still be good or even great.

I am happy to hear this because it fits perfectly with what I remember hearing their plan was. They expand the Marvel movies into the TV shows. So maybe ABC will put more and more money into this venture and the TV shows will weave seamlessly into the movies. Maybe even get enough in the budget for a Tony Stark or Bruce Banner/Hulk cameo. And then maybe get quality actors who could eventually move from the TV show into the movies too.

I think this is an excellent idea - maybe even mini-series runs, similar to Sherlock on BBC.

It would be especially fun to highlight characters in other movies that don't necessarily warrant a feature film. Characters like Agent Carter, Howard Stark, Falcon, Sif/Warriors Three & War Machine could all be fun in short bursts. Or hell, do a Black Widow/Hawkeye mini-series to explain what happened in Budapest that was referenced in The Avengers.

Many have said it but it's a really great time to be a superhero fan. CW coming out with Flash next year (hopefully that soon), Marvel coming with their own show and now ABC saying they want more. Great movies, great comics, great shows this is a dream come true.
