ABC Entertainment Chief Wants More Marvel

Many have said it but it's a really great time to be a superhero fan. CW coming out with Flash next year (hopefully that soon), Marvel coming with their own show and now ABC saying they want more. Great movies, great comics, great shows this is a dream come true.

Phase 2 of MCU, X-men: DOFP, Batman vs Superman, agents of shield, green Arrow tv show, flash tv show, The new 52, Marvel Now. Yep its a great era for Superhero fans!!

Mr. M please don't bring your unwanted negativity. I highly, HIGHLY doubt AoS will bomb let alone after a few episodes. Whedon has a HUGE following. Clark Gregg has a HUGE following. Those two alone are going to pull in viewers.

I'm glad ABC Entertainment wants more Marvel. I see a show being sin off the second season of AoS. I think they'll want to give it two seasons to see if it does well.

Concepts I think could do really well:

Runaways on ABC Family since it'll work well on teen oriented channel.

Young Avengers on ABC or ABC Family depending on if they want to want light hearted teen fair or a little more serious take. Either way I think Young Avengers could be interesting now that the Avengers movie has been made.

Heroes for Hire (Luke and Rand) on ABC. They could work well in a serialized format.

A female character show if they're still scared to put it on the big screen. Someone like Mockingbird or Spider-Woman. I think they'll do it if WB ever comes around to getting Wonder Woman on TV. ABC Family

Daredevil, Punisher, Moon Knight etc on FX or HBO or Showtime like people said.

How I wish Marvel had the rights to the mutants back. A show centered on the students and the school would be awesome.

Expectations are going to be different in terms of the number of prime time viewers on ABC vs CW. Buffy was great for what it was. But 5 million viewers or so works for a network like that. Firefly pretty much bombed from a ratings standpoint. A network like ABC will want 8 digit viewership on a weekly basis. If it doesn't acheive that, it's not going to last long. Besides, is Whedon really that involved in the series? He's obviously producing, but I don't think he is providing the treatment for the entire season, however many episodes it's supposed to be. The trailer looked pretty silly to me.

I'm pretty much on the same page as people here despite the contrary. I don't think characters like DD will work on network TV. If HBO picks it up, sign me up. Heroes for Hire on ABC will look like another NYPD blue knockoff on roids. I'd rather loan that out to FX or someone like that.

What other networks does Disney own on cable beside the family networks and ESPN?

You're making literally no sense. If anything Marvel is the one who should (and will) be light while Star Wars needs to be "gritty" if you want to staple them with those stupid terms.

Star Wars is a WW brand. Heroes for Hire and DD are not. It makes no sense turning Star Wars into some darker, 10 pm ET cable series on FX or AMC. You are seriously going to argue for this? If we do get a Star Wars show, I am thinking it will be more about bounty hunters and less so Jedi spectacle that could overwhelm a TV budget. Regardless, it should be content geared toward network TV, because those characters are household names.

I think another Marvel series that could work on network TV is Young Tony Stark, but obviously Iron Man wouldn't be in it. You have 8-10 potential seasons based on a Stark in his 20's-30's, and other 1970's and 1980's superheroes could appear.

ABC/Disney have been pushing this show heavily, it is going to get every opportunity to succeed and I see very few things to indicate that it won't. It is connected to the 3rd highest grossing film of all time, which ABC is leveraging at every turn. It has Joss Whedon connected and he has a loyal following and even though he won't be running the show, his brother is and Joss will be overseeing to ensure that it meshes nicely with the MCU. Also, this show will have appearances by some of the movie stars. I'm going to say right now that Jackson and RDJ will make an appearance at some point in the first season. This show is going to attract viewers, I have very little doubt about that.

I'm sorry but that sounds not very interesting. So Tony Stark without RDJ and no IM and focusing on a time in Tony's life where he is basically just partying? No thanks. I'd rather have some focus episodes for Howard Stark, flashing back to the origin of SHIELD in this series.

To each his own. Don't really see more than cameo appearances if the movie stars are even confirmed at this point. I would have centered a show on the younger years of Hawkeye/Black Widow. That could have been something. Obviously Renner/Scar Jo couldn't play them in a TV series, but would still make for a compelling story. I don't think people will give a **** about these no name agents.

That would be a major plot line though. Flesh out that relationship which I loved in IM2, only it wasn't executed perfectly. It can also set up the seeds to things we see later in the movieverse, like maybe Tony/Pym's work on the beginnings of Ultron. Stark still graduated from MIT at the age of 15, and contrary to popular belief, knew exactly what he was doing all along, partying aside.

The good thing about what they are doing with this show is that it is a blank canvas that can be used to go in a number of directions. Personally, I am interested in finding out more about Agent May and Agent Ward looks cool too. Plus now we have the opportunity for this team to interact with other SHIELD agents like Bobbi Morse or Quatermain, as well as heroes and villains throughout the Marvel universe. It is a great way to expand out what we already have without waiting years to get it.

I think Pym should be introduced slowly via Agents of SHIELD, an episode here and and a couple of episodes, there prior to Avengers 2 and Ant-Man to establish the character and plant seeds for Ultron. Sadly it doesn't seem to be the way they are going.

they got shield on earth. so how about a series about the nova corps. though i think disney really wants another show they could crossover with, like sword and shield.

Mr. M honestly I don't know why you think AoS will do so badly but I'm almost 100% sure you're wrong. There is absolutely no indication that the show will bomb. There's more evidence to the contrary. ABC's really pushing this show and just because you found the trailer lacking doesn't indicate anything. Fanboys claimed TASM was going to suck and do horribly at the box office and it ended up making 750 WW. I have to say that I lump you in with the people continuing to say TASM2 is going to bomb too. You have No evidence to support anything.

That's never EVER been the Marvel way. I don't expect that to change with Disney.

You are right on both counts, unfortunately. I got enough SHIELD in IM2, much less the Avengers. Who knows what they will do with Star Wars?

Just a gut feeling bro. Don't get too worked up over it. We will find out how these things perform with audiences soon enough, and then you can say I told you so if I am wrong.
