Absolute Killing Joke - new colours

New Colors are excellent except a few things:

kj10001.jpg

The scene where Babs gets shot is just normally colored. I miss the red used originally.
When the Joker is born, he cries blood. No problem with this.
All of Joker's flashbacks are black and white except all the Red (And green for his hair)
Two Face is now purple with green hair
Batman is no longer a Simpson
The colors on the Hawaiian Shirt have changed. It's now all blue. Not fond of. The old one is classic. At least Bab's shirt is still yellow.

All in all, great stuff. Sad that it is taller then my Year One and MWL HCs.

From what you've mentioned and the pics posted, the recoloring sounds/looks terrific. You seem to have a couple of issues with the recoloring, but IMO, the original was good, but had some serious problems. I know even Bolland was unhappy with how it turned out, so to me the new changes are welcome.

And I don't see why anyone would complain. We have now have two excellent versions of TKJ. And if you don't like the updated colors, there's always the old one to go back to.

for the love of god, PLEASE someone scan another pic of the "bloody joker" and turn it into a wallpaper? pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

The only problem I have is with the Shirt change. I am upset of the lack of red, but it isn't a problem. In fact, it is pretty powerful coloring. Amazing how a recolor can do so much.

I really like the recolor. He did a great job.

I'll see what I can do about some pics.

The problem with scanning it is as it's a hardcover, it doesnt fold as easily, so it gets cut off. Single issues are much easier to scan, but that doesnt help. The only way I could see getting a clearer scan is if someone were to actually cut that page out of theres, which I dont think anyone is going to do.

And Motown Marvel is completely wrong, it look much better now. All of it. Heres the other two scans I took...

I'm a little confused is it an Absolute, or is it just a hardcover?

i can admit it looks damn good for a re-color. its even impressive for something that was colored on computer, but you can still tell it was done on a computer, and i so much prefer traditional. maybe i need to see more. i dunno.

Why would they re-color it, to set it aside from the original and make the value more/less?

someone mentioned originals for comparison, well here they are

I picked this up today. I love it.

Lots of addition of blood to panels where there was none in the original. Like when Batman punches Joker in stomach in the hall of mirrors, a load of blood spurts from his mouth. And of course, the revelation of Joker after the fall into the chemicals.

There's a forward by Tim Sale, and a great afterward from Bolland. There's also pics of his sketches for panels and characters in TKJ.

I like both of them.
I think the old colors fit Killing Joke really well and I like them, but sometimes it gives me headache so I am glad there will be other version too.

Its not the best possible, since I made it in hurry. :D

Its also going to give me a seizure, thanks

for the most part, you can't even tell its digital at all. This job looks WAY better than most digital recolorings ive seen yet. The new colors are fantastic and the book looks great. There are some things that i felt looked cooler in the original, but the changes work and look cool in their own right on this one as well.

My major gripe? Bolland got rid of the oval logo...

Im not sure If I like this re-coloring thing or not, it makes it much less colorful, which is why I loved TKJ in the first place.

I love the new colours in the Killing Joke, and think that they have improved the look of the story.

Batman on a acid trip :wow:

I have to say, I prefer the original colorings to these new ones. For one, I enjoy that older style look, but, most of all, these new ones fail to capture that nightmarish look that the old ones gave. I mean, when Gordon is being dragged by the freaks the entire scene looks like its coming out of a nightmare, and, for the story, that works perfectly, I think. Also, in the fight scene, the same problem. The room Bats and Joker are fighting in looks like a show room, like a circus, reflecting the pointlessness of all this violence, which I think is one of the key morals of the story.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that these new colors are just too... regular. They feel like something out of any other comic book, now, thats not saying they are not fantastically done, which, they are, they just don't manage to capture the mood and theme of the story as well as the originals do.

P.S: Could someone post a full picture of Bats from this new edition, as in the panel where he is getting hit in the head by the wooden plank, it seems to me that the yellow oval around the bat symbol is gone, but I cannot be quit sure.

Yes, they removed the yellow oval...thank god. I hate that damn thing. And I like this version much more, in every way. I find it still nightmarish, but this time it's because of Bollands actual art, not just the coloring. Beign able to see the freaks in higher detail, and seeing everyone with skin that looks like skin, and not like they all have Scurvy is great.

Plus, so much detail stands out now. I was never able to tell that the Joker and Jeannie had a bowl of tentacles in there room before. Or that the torches the Joker has burning by his throne were doll heads. I really, really preffer this version for that alone.

I also love that they gave Bolland a chance to finally do it the way he had intended it from the beginning. It's not like they got some third party to come in and do it here, it was all Bolland.
