Okay, I work at a bookstore, but my dream has always been to be a writer, a fantasy writer. I've written several novels I haven't finished, and a lot of stories that I have.

Last September I sent a story in.

In January, I received a postcard from that publication that said they had just received my story (ie, had worked their way down the enormous pile of submissions they received until they finally found me).

Today, I just received another letter from them that said they wanted to PUBLISH my story. PUBLISH it - and pay for it! 25 cents a word for 9000 words!

SQUEEEE! This is my first acceptance letter, and the fact that it's actually from a magazine that people subscribe to voluntarily makes it so much better! This is has been my dream and my goal in life, to be able to make a living as a writer.

This is just the start, I know, and it'll be months, maybe even a year, before my story's actually published in the magazine once the edits are over, but this acceptance finally tells me that I have what it takes to pursue my dream of writing for a living.

So I'm ecstatic! ECSTATIC!

But, just to give this thread an actual, y'know, DISCUSSION - name a time in your life when something happened that completely validated everything you'd been working so hard towards. Aaaand....go!

Holy Shyt!!!

That frickin rocks June!!!!! .25 x 9,000 words equals, like . . . a lot!

I'm no good at math but I think that's over $2000.

Isn't that $2250?! Wow, congratulations! Reach for the moon, babe!

Wow, if they paid me that much for my fanfic, I'd be rich! :D

Congrats!

2,250.00 is correct. I know I cant say that I know you but this is fantastic news congrats..... keep up the good work I would like to read your work sometime

Congrats June :) I wish I had the stamina to keep up on my story (that I'm not geeting paid for). Maybe money would motivate me too....

Actually I've got a similar plan to yours. I'm working on a manga, that I'm planning on selling (hopefully to Dark Horse or somn). I originally thought it would take me about 3-5 years to complete, but with my current addiction to the hype, it may be longer. :p
