True - but bear in mind, I live in Canada, so $2250 in US money is $2500 over here, which pretty much pays for a semester of tuition for something I wrote over three days while on pain meds for wisdom tooth removal.squeekness said:They take taxes outta everything.![]()
AnimeJune said:Okay, I work at a bookstore, but my dream has always been to be a writer, a fantasy writer. I've written several novels I haven't finished, and a lot of stories that I have.
Last September I sent a story in.
In January, I received a postcard from that publication that said they had just received my story (ie, had worked their way down the enormous pile of submissions they received until they finally found me).
Today, I just received another letter from them that said they wanted to PUBLISH my story. PUBLISH it - and pay for it! 25 cents a word for 9000 words!
SQUEEEE! This is my first acceptance letter, and the fact that it's actually from a magazine that people subscribe to voluntarily makes it so much better! This is has been my dream and my goal in life, to be able to make a living as a writer.
This is just the start, I know, and it'll be months, maybe even a year, before my story's actually published in the magazine once the edits are over, but this acceptance finally tells me that I have what it takes to pursue my dream of writing for a living.
So I'm ecstatic! ECSTATIC!
But, just to give this thread an actual, y'know, DISCUSSION - name a time in your life when something happened that completely validated everything you'd been working so hard towards. Aaaand....go!

I won't get the money until it's published, which probably won't be till a year from now. It's the first story I ever tried submitting for publication, so it means a lot to me that its' the first to be accepted.
Thanks for all your support and congratulations.
I'll try to come back to the Official Spidey Boards, King Kong, if I have the time.

The story has a fantasy element, but if you want to know what it's about, you're just going to have to buy the magazine next year and find out.![]()
