The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

Personally, I really like Kylo Ren as a character. I'm just not so sure I like him as the "dragon" of the trilogy though, especially since he basically got beaten by the hero three times already. She beat him in the mind battle, the lightsaber pull battle, and the actual lightsaber battle. And he looked like a scared little punk each time. He's going to the underdog in the next film, and I'm not sure I like that.

I agree that this is a different villain than what we've gotten before and perhaps refreshing in some ways. However, so far we haven't really gotten an imposing villain yet. Hux was pretty bland and so was Phasma. Snoke seems like he's supposed to be the threatening villain, but I'm not feeling him yet and we probably won't see him much until 9. I'm hoping Del Toro is good. We'll see.

I mean honestly, the heroes bested Vader thrice in ANH.
- Leia stashed the death star plans in R2
- Luke and Han infiltrated his battle station and freed his prisoner
- Han beat him in a dogfight.

I think it's very clear the direction they will go with Episode 8. They don't call it an ESB ending for nothing.

He looks fine enough to pass as Han&Leia's son to me and I feel that Driver gave a good performance to pretty interesting character. Just my thoughts

Those aren't the same. They weren't personal one-on-one confrontations. And Han didn't beat Vader in a dog fight. One of Vader's TIE pilots accidentally bumped into him.

Even still, Ren isn't Vader.

Rey to Ren is still believable given she has control of the force and Ren isn't fully trained or in control of his emotions. And she didn't even 'beat' him, she overpowered him. If we were talking about Rey besting Luke, that'd be a whole 'nother story.

Rey's victories can be foreshadowed, but they shouldn't be as numerous and decisive in the first chapter as they are here. Just another example of bad writing.

I really think Disney wants to push the feminist agenda and is doing so with far too much enthusiasm, to the detriment of the actual storytelling.

He's as close in appearance to Solo and Leia as Luke Skywalker is to Jabba the Hut.

I mean, come on. I like TFA a lot too, but I don't need to defend every last aspect of the film.

Kylo Ren's real name did bother me though. A name only really familiar to Luke seems like an odd choice for Han or Leia. I am surprised they didn't name him Luke.

You're coming across pretty silly actually.

If you think Driver bears any similarity to Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford, you definitely need to be wearing corrective lenses the next time you see TFA.

I'm not sure where this is going.

Carrie looks nothing like Mark Hamill, who looks nothing like Sebastian Shaw, who looks nothing like Hayden, who looks nothing like Snoke.

Yeah whatever it's just my opinion and yeah I already know yours so no need to telling everyone like you're the only one right.

You like the film a lot? all I've seen you post is criticism about it on every topic discussing it

I enjoyed the film immensely. However, every film has plotholes and bloopers.

Perhaps we should eliminate blooper reels or better yet just shut down freedom of speech altogether.

Mark and Leia don't even look alike or like Anakin or Padme. But they do resemble each other in passing like Driver and Ford

^^Complete jibberish. As I said, Ren looks nothing like his parents. It's casting 101. Find someone with a vague, passing resemblance, then we'll move on.

Solo and Leia are western/northern european in apperance: Driver has dark hair, with a huge schnozz and a freakishly large, gigantoid head.

Why not just admit the obvious and move on? Why the hurt feelings over a most obvious point?

I can buy he can be their son. I personally don't look that much like my parents, but closer to my grangranpa on father's side. And my father looks almost nothing like his granpa. It's possible.

I don't think I look any thing like my parents and I think most of the time people look nothing like there parents. Now my sister and mom look alike because they have the same smile and bone struacter.

I actually completely disagree. This GQ cover from over a year ago, while completely telegraphing his identity in the film also made me think "Hey, I can see this guy as Han's son."

No offense, but perhaps you should take into account the fact that your parents are 25-40 years older than you are.

Just a hint, take a look at their pictures when they were your age.

Luke looks nothing like Leia. Luke looks nothing like Amidala or Anakin. Hell, young Anakin looks nothing like grown-up Anakin.

SUDDENLY, Adam Driver's resemblance became a thing...

Not sure if you've noticed, but Driver has an extremely unusual appearance, making it nearly impossible to cast him in a film where he is supposedly related to any good looking western/northern european descent actors/actresses.

Hamill and Fisher are conventionally good looking and anglo in appearance. They don't look like twins but there is at least a passing resemblance.

Harrison Ford looks nothing like Sean Connery yet they played father and son in Last Crusade.

Since when did resemblance become a prerequisite for casting relatives in movies? Characters who are related usually DON'T resemble each other in films because the actors aren't really related. They're cast for their talents, not their looks.

1. Snoke says Ren needs more training...Ren is a rookie still, and who knows how he found the dark side...

2. I do agree he should have been bested the two quicker. Sword fighting is hard, yet none the less it was a cool scene.

3. judging from the Storm trooper with the pole arm(one of the few awkward scenes in the flick), its highly possible the ST of this day got regular training on such weapons...perhaps those would equal good LS skills. Also, Rey used a similar type weapon. Clearly she had extensive experience using that weapon.

4. Ren had been blasted in the side and was already injured. Who knows to what extent.

A film audience recognizes that parentage doesn't have to result in identical appearance. But the difference cannot be so far off as to be jarring and strange.

TFA fails that test by a spectacular margin.

"Close enough" will do.

I just read a brief article on Driver, and the article acknowledges how unusual Driver's appearance is. He's even being cast as a leading man in romantic roles!

Hollywood is a strange place. Casting decisions aren't necessarily logical.
