The Dark Knight Adam West Not Excited for TDK

I never liked the old batman shows, i always thought they were extremely stupid.... the Batman and Robin film reminded me to much of the older shows....

They were stupid and the saddest shape that Batman ever took but unfortunately some believe it deserves this huge praise...The show was cancelled after 3 seasons...yeah....real huge.

You're wrong here. The old TV show was huge in it's day. People remembered it and it why they were so intrigued when Burton came in. Comic readers always knew there was another Batman. Normal people only had the show and it's what Batmans mainstream status was built on.

So you're speaking for everyones mindset back in 1989? I was there and I was thrilled to the film and it had NOTHING to do with the tv show. I' like many others, were fully aware of the Batman character with or without the TV show. The show MOCKED Batman and all that it was originally intended to be. I'm sure many others would agree that they felt the same way. That's like saying the old 70s Spider-man made for TV movies are a big part of why the Spider-man films were big...sorry...don't think so.

How DARE you bash Adam West. He is the GREATEST mayor Quahog ever had! EVER times a billion trillion.

Why do people make such a big deal over the Batman show being campy? Oh course it was campy, it was straight out theater of the absurd! People are actually making a fuss over Adam West's comments? Seriously??? He's Adam West a borderline senile comedic genius! Are you fanboys that obsessed that you are going to rip into a wacky 80 year old man's opinion on some movie that falls out of his absurdest view on a movie that is somewhat related to a show that he consider's straight out theatre of the absurd!? The old show was an off the wall zany absurd ridiculous show first, and a batman show second.

^ I find this very hard to believe.

I'm not saying that people rushed to the Burton movie because they wanted to see more 60's show goodness. Chill out about the MOCKING Batman, I know what the show is and I know what Batman is. I'm saying people were interested in the Burton movie precisely because it was so different to the only other Batman they knew, the show.

edit - and yes I'm speaking for the mindset of everyone who was not a comic reader in 1989. You don't need to point out that YOU and YOUR FRIENDS already knew about Batman. Big deal. Have a cookie. I'm talking about all the people that made Batman the biggest movie of the year. Not you you're not that important.

(Really glad you can do that..that's quite a gift) You don't need to point out that YOU and YOUR FRIENDS already knew about Batman. Big deal. Have a cookie. So you're convinced that without the TV show the Burton film would not have been huge or as huge? Yeah, I simply think that's ridiculous. You sound as if the average everyday person weren't aware of the exsistance of comic books. Like people, before the TV show, were going "who's Batman?" Yeah....sure. I think you are vastly overstating.

And I want milk with my cookie.

yep, I feel pretty certain of that :yay:

You sound as if the average everyday person weren't aware of the exsistance of comic books.

Of course people knew the comics book existed. But compared to the awareness generated by the TV show, the comics is a piddling audience. You didn't have to read comics to know Batman or to be intrigued by Burtons weird vision of him, the show put him on a totally different level. I'm not undermining the movie at all, it was great all on it's own merits. I'm just saying that without people having some reference, the hype of the summer of 89 wouldn't have been nearly as intense or exciting. People loved that something so colourful and silly was being twisted and darkened for modern times, it was the end of the 80's. And the show made Batman an icon, that's not an over-statement at all.

And I want milk with my cookie.

You get nothing!

lol calling adam west a legend.

Comic book readers a piddling audience? Y'know you're right. What the hell does the Batman character have to do with comic books anyway? It's the TV show that made him. Oh wait.....something just hit me.....I think Batman is....dare I say it? A comic book character! yes? no?

God bless that silly TV show....:whatever:
