Am I the only that really kind of hopes that Coulson is NOT an LMD/android/robot/whatever? I don't know... I just want Coulson to be Coulson. I'd rather it be some type of magic having brought him back (haven't there been rumors of Dr. Strange being introduced into the MCU?) or heck, maybe SHIELD was tinkering with the Chitauri tech and discovered something (that could explain them not wanting him to know, right? Who would want to know that they were brought back to life via tech recovered from the aliens that had tried to conquer the world). Or something about Loki's spear and the gem on it left residual magic or something.

The LMD route I just... I dunno, the idea of it doesn't sit well with me  (but of course, they will do what they do and there's nothing I can do about it *sigh*)

I have always hoped that he recovery was because of the strange Asgardian energy (radiation) from the gun he fired at Loki......After all the Destroyer is powered by the Odin-Force, right?
:csad:
That was my hope anyway.........he'll probably be a robot.

Precisely. I haven't seen people complaining about the flying car on here but people complaining about it on IMDB. And those complaining about it - I seriously have to question how much of a fan they are of the film series as a whole or if they just wanted and expected this to be leagues different because this was a clear evolution from the films. If they didn't see Captain America - it would come out of the blue. If they did? It will feel organic and like a geekasm in seeing that pre-established scene have a really great pay off. And it was a way to further that this whole universe gels.

I hope it'll be something more interesting and with more of a story to it than that. I mean, it seems like it won't be that already. "Weird magic from that gun you fired resurrected you and we're studying how that happened" doesn't sound like a dark secret they'd need to keep from him.

Besides, they never said in Avengers that the gun was reverse engineered from The Destroy. They just said that it was build in response to the Destroyer.

It wasn't said in the movie, but the official Avengers prelude comic (Fury's Big Week) does indicate that the gun was reversed engineered from The Destroyer after Coulson sees the scientists successfully 'activate' the Destroyers energy beam ("Now I need you to dismantle that thing, and make it about a hundred times smaller. ..... And put a trigger on it." ~Coulson, Fury's Big Week Chapter 8) So I guess it would depend on if you take any of the prelude comics as a secondary canon source

Ok, I saw the pilot. Hmmm......well I actually don't usually follow shows this way. If there's one I want to see I'll see it on a season by season basis. I mean I usually wait for at least an entire season to come out so I can just watch that all in one block. I rarely go episode by episode as it actually comes out. But that's what I'm going to be doing here so it's kinda a new thing for me.

Anyway, I on the whole liked the episode and would give it a 7/10. Lots of room for improvement but this provides a solid ground to build on. Clark Greg carries this episode completely. He's what mitigates some of the sillier aspects of it all. I didn't care much for Fitz-Simmons and their tendency to ramble over each other as well as just being hard to understand. I know their spouting technobabble but would it kill them to actually be clear when they speak? Felt like they were mumbling a lot.

The Skye character was a tad less annoying but with her it's more about what she's given to do than the performance(which was fine). I know she's the eyes of the audience and the uninitiated IN for us but it just seemed like she should have been a bit more careful with how she conducted herself given her motivations. The field guy was ok as well as the other woman agent. One does hope that this show will get better with the showing of all the espionage/trade craft- type stuff because here you could really tell it was more of a TV level type skill set they were playing with. The FX for TV were fine and I mostly enjoyed the subversion of different expectations at different points in the show(the "super" at the beginning going nuts and such as well as things like the truth serum situation). Yeah, some of the humor could be if not toned down, maybe at least met by an equally serious tone with other things happening to give it a nice balance. I think the humor was just a tad too much here but they've got time to even it out. Anyway, I liked it more or less and these are just my initial reactions. They've given themselves plenty of room to expand and get better and hopefully they will.

Just a really minor, minor, miiinnnooorrr nitpick. When that one guy hit Mike in the back, with that metal thingy, metal like that doesn't bend that way, unless the guy hitting has some extraordinary strength as well. Imagine hitting a stone wall with a metal pipe, you'd hurt yourself before damaging the pipe.

True. I didn't even think of that

Am I the only one that finds Skye annoying?

Chalk it up to artistic license, like when a knife bends against Superman's chest.

Leaving this here for everyone that has still issues with the flying car.

The fact that Fury had a flying car in the 60's comics about SHIELD was enough for me. It was a beautiful homage.

I find it interesting that Mike's origin is somewhat parallel to Luke Cage's. The experiment, the use of the Super Soldier formula. They mixed it up, sure. But, there are parallels.

I said it before and I will say it again: Super Soldier Blood Donation! Before Cap awoke in the 21st century, SHIELD probably took blood samples (they would be idiots if they didn't), Fury could have used this blood and the regenerational power of the SSS to resurrect Coulson, who, being the fanboy he is, should never know that it was Steve Rogers blood that saved him for the sake of Furys and Hill's minds. I can see them getting worried about how annoying Phil could get if he ever found out.

Just so you and the younger fans know, Nick Fury's flying sports car has been around longer than I think even James Bond's Aston Martin (I might be wrong on that date they were out about the same time)
I don't think it's at all silly, personally. The movies have set up a realistic view, and certain flying vehicles aren't that far off.

It was one of the best moments of the show for me. I remember first reading the SHIELD comics in the mid 60's, and Fury taking off in his flying car and loving it....it was a great homage to the comics.

Exactly what highly advanced tech makes Thor able to stand toe to toe with The Hulk?.... or are all Asgardians by nature a match for Hulk.

Not sure if it is advanced tech or just alien phsyiology...but the THOR movie showed that Asgardians can withstand things that would kill regular humans from earth.

This is brilliant. :funny:

Never thought of that before. Pretty good idea and one that'd tie the show to the MCU without actually needing CA to show up.

I just noticed that after Coulson has revealed himself to Ward and they (and Hill) are walking to the command center (or whatever it is) while talking about it. They reach the doors and the computer says "Say cheese" in order to get the facial recognition to allow access

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's a sly reference to Phil Coulson's comic book counterpart, whose nickname is Cheese. :woot:

I think she can only get better. Now that she stops with the Rising Tide nonsense, and will hopefully be less of a fangirl. At least she was nowhere near as annoying as some of the females in Arrow.

Yup, to be sure much the same as Kryptonians, but Thor must be on a level far beyond his fellow Asgardians, or is any Asgardian capable of trading blows with The Hulk......

If as it's been put forward Thor's powers are possible due to some technology( i.e. Thor controls lightning via the tech in his hammer, etc.)Thor's unique strength must also be a result of said technology.
