If you call a Scotsman British...you might get whacked

Yeah, that's why I usually say "the UK and Scotland," because I know a bunch of Scots online who take exception to being called British or included in the UK. They find it quite offensive.

looks like people are ok with it because it has Marvel in the title and Samuel L. Jackson was in it... well if thats enough for some people fine....

Or maybe they like it for others reasons completely . You're not a mind reader. And people liking something you don't doesn't make you smarter than them.

Are we supposed to cry?

Why does my dislike of this show offend so many people? I came into a thread about the show to talk about the show...or is that not allowed if we talk negatively about the show?

yeah the EMP device was sweet, hope to see it used in one of the films by either a SHIELD agent or Hawkeye, Widow or even Mockingbird.
Being a security officer, it reminds me of a few billy clubs our guys have lol Collapsible with a flashlight at one end. lol

Not really plenty of Scottish people are perfectly fine with being called British the only ones that take offence to it are nationalists.

Britain as a name pre-dates England,Scotland or Wales and is the name of the island of which Scotland, England and Wales make up so its factually accurate to call them British if they are part of the union or not.

Depends on the Scotsman (or woman), a significant number of them are quite happy and proud to be British, so long as their Scottish identity is preserved. The truth is they are British, Great Britain is the name of the island they live on (named because it's like Brittany in France, but bigger), and people who live on it are British. Furthermore, they are part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and have been since the act of Union in 1707, which brought together England, Ireland and Scotland in to the United Kingdom. Most of Ireland gained independence in 1922, and Scotland may vote to leave next year in a referendum, but probably won't, because most Scottish people are happy o be part of the UK.

Well EMP only effects electronics...so it wasn't an EMP...some other concussive force of some sort.

Guess I've only met the type that don't like to be called British!

They must be hardcore Scottish nationalists because even Scottish people who want independence don't get mad over being called a part of the UK

For lots of Scottish people it isn't an either or situation. An English person or a Welsh person could just as easily be offended by being called British or a UK citizen and some of them are.

OKAY already let's keep it on the show guys. Granted there is a Brit and a Scottsman on the team why don't you see what THEY prefer to be called? like maybe tweet them?

hahahaha just heard another Easter egg! when Shield calls the plane they (shield dispatch) call the Plane "S.H.I.E.L.D. 616"

There's 2 Brits on the show, an English Woman and a Scotsman.

That's true, I mean I'm not called British man now am I...

Yeah I KNOW I'm just saying ask the ACTORS what they prefer to be called. I have friends here who've been at the Hype for YEARS that are British.
I've also WORKED with Englishmen here in the states. So yeah it can be touchy to some people. No different really than saying someone's Cockney when they live in west London ;)

Precisely! Frankly, I think it is borderline racist to say that it is somehow okay to label an English or Welsh person 'British' and not okay to then label a Scottish person 'British'; as the difference between the two pairs is identical! Either we're ALL British or none of us are. Only the Irish, Manx and Channel Islanders potentially get a free pass by virtue of being on different islands but even then, they're all still part of the British Isles.

Also, just a question for clarification from those who've encountered Scotsmen who take offense to being called 'British'... are you sure you said 'British' and not 'English'? Because the latter is the by far commoner cause of offense and the one most often made by Americans. British =/= English.

Uhhhh It's not borderline racist, and doesn't even have to do with race. Nationalistic? you mean?

Good ep, better than last week. I gave both an 8 but in hindsight would bump the pilot down to 7.

I've got a question about the ending of 084. When Skye gets her message from (presumably) Rising Tide, what's the deal with the dinosaur technology? She's not using anything modern or state of the art....in fact, the message comes in on an old-fashioned green DOS-era font, on some clunky old hand-held computer thingy that looks like it was relevant circa 1992.

Is the implication that they're *that* poor/low-tech that they're using equipment that's probably 20 years old? Or is it something more clever on the Tide's part --- i.e., SHIELD won't think to monitor outdated telecommunications, so Skye stays in touch with fossil hardware and software.

A nitpick. How exactly did the Hydra device end up in the Temple? It couldn't have been that it got hot enough to just melt through the ground and then got lodged into the temple wall. Because if you look at the wall, it doesn't suggest that the device melted down from above. It looks like someone just straight shoved it into the wall.
